Halloween 3 is an extremely underrated ending in my opinion. Him screaming into the phone to stop the broadcast as that annoying jingle plays knowing whats about to come

You're correct, maybe not the best words to describe him. I just mean, prior to the wish there's nothing about his character I'd say is particularly egregious, but ive heard people act like even at the beginning he was terrible and I feel that undermines the horror that he's just a regular dude who I think becomes increasingly worse mostly out of passive delusion created by his infatuation leading to increasingly selfish decisions rather than a core sinister nature.

Its scary because anyone could be him. Its not like its revealed that he was a monster the whole time. A lot of people view rape as something like someone being violently attacked by a stranger in a dark alley, but its often regular people who know the victim and often convince themselves its consensual and i think that ignorance and lack of taking responsibility is what makes him scary. We see just how easily he slips into becoming that monsters and it scares us that we might be the same.

I don't know if Barker intended all this, but I think the nuance of it is whats caused so much debate.

Its definitely a mix of both. Im not denying there is a weird sub section of people who completely went for the incel take, which im sure is what amplified the defensiveness of many people towards the film and Nikki's character.

I think the issue mainly came when it turned into you having to either be an incel Bear supporter who's okay with rape or you think Bear is the antichrist and can't be even remotely seen as relatable or sympathetic or you fully condone his actions.

To add, it also got mixed up in the social media gender war nonsense which I find particularly annoying because I felt the movie did a fantastic job of not ever making it feel like a gender thing. You could change all the genders of the characters and it would still be effective. The movie plays with how people often form these crushes that turn into an obsessive infatuation and the wish essentially is what would happen if someone was forced to fulfill that role. Its scary because everyone is guilty of that. Bear's character is someone refusing to let go of that fantasy and in the context of the movie that means taking away the autonomy and overall happiness of another person.

After watching the movie, i remember thinking about how there are ao many people ive met that I think would have the same issue as Bear, where they are otherwise harmless people, but if put in this situation its questionable how they would handle it.

ClassyMrOwl

It almost does...

Saw the movie day of release and loved it and it was so fun talking about it with people online for maybe a week before tiktok mist have gotten its hands on it and turned it into a litmus test for whether you are a rapist or not based on how tightly you clutch your pearls over it.

The Witcher

I always theorized they would do a light retcon that would make it so even if destroy or control happens machines could be rebuilt or granted intellectually freedom again by plenty of different logical means. Best case scenario is they just have an explanation for each ending slowly leading back to a fairly similar universe we had prior to the Reaper war with Liara most likely vaguely filling in some gaps, but leaving enough open for fan interpretation

The "woke" shit I think was moreso what was keeping them going for as long as they were making the idea that it killed the studio all the more ridiculous. A lot of dedicated fans are part of the lgbtq community and stuck around because Bioware was one of the few studios that seemed to be genuinely open to them.

Having gay or trans characters did not kill the studio. Rushed, underfunded, unfinished releases and poor management did. The writing definitely is weaker with the newer teams, but I cant really attribute it to them being "woke". I think the issue was that there was a push to make they games more marketable for younger generations with their basis for how to do that being taking from the success of the MCU and leaning harder into social media and meme culture. Unfortunately people often conflate that with "being woke" and the reality is that the new games could have had amazing writing, but as soon as a character like Taash shows up there is a dedicated group of people that will deem it woke and say its trash.

If this is a legit dev or just a grifter, I dont know, but this seems very much like an attempt to push anti woke nonsense.

Lol this whole scene is great. So quotable. "You've seen dolls that pee? This one bleeds"

JD is also James Dominic meaning he was named after Dom from the original trilogy... yeah sorry Del, but this is a no trainer for me

I remember deciding to check it out and the first story was really dumb so I was a little turned off, but the characters literally mention how cliché and dumb it is and then the following 3 end up being genuinely good.

I don't know if it was intentional, but it was like they criticizing how cheesy a lot of anthology shorts can be and it was a fun little meta moment.

ClassyMrOwl

So did everyone else in the cast

I seriously loved the idea that Rey was just a nobody and that the force can choose anyone regardless of who they are. Theres been a constant battle within the series to decide whether the force is genetic or not with a lot pointing towards genetics (as stated in Phantom Menace), but I find the randomness of it more compelling narratively. Its also just easier to expand the Jedi without having to connect everything to pre existing characters.

Then Rise had to go and ruin it.

Pluto has the same issues and even runs a bunch of far right channels. I think its just the right investing where they can and these free streaming services not giving a fuck.

ClassyMrOwl

Did anyone else think those were meant to be used on Aiden, or am I just a masochist?

I was wondering if this was possible. Gonna try it next time i play

Yeah, Send Help was essentially where one monster is unkowingly trapped with an even bigger monster that essentially puts them in their place
