I’d definitely recommend talking to your bank and see what you can do to get your own account that your parents do not have access to (hopefully being able to transfer funds to it from the accounts they do as the money is yours from what I understan). You can kiss that 10k goodbye for sure though and should not rely on it.

I’d keep EVERYTHING under wraps as you establish independence and continue to save money. for how much you should have it’d depend on where you live and the average cost of rent as well as any repeat spending you’d do throughout a month (consider making a mock budget). Finally, I think January-march may be too soon to dip financially and not the best time for moving, consider mid spring and early summer for the highest availability and best conditions!
