Reply plainly, something like the below, use your own words and make sure to put in there messages of the expenses you paid. That way if he does go to a lawyer you can shoot him down fast

During our time as room-mates, bills were shared as well as general household costs. Your excel sheet lists communal items you willingly paid for.

At no time was there a verbal, written or informal agreement that this was a loan or something needing paying back, nor did you state this when you willingly paid these expenses. we shared costs and I paid my way.

As you volunteered to pay for these costs while I paid for other costs, and you breached the lease and failed to pay for your share of rent, there is nothing to resolve here.
