The cost of a context switch on modern hardware is a lot more negligible so a microkernel architecture makes a lot more sense. Especially if like the Linux kernel you have a lot more third party drivers in the codebase. Many linux drivers are being moved into userspace and efforts to compartmentalise macos/ios are also underway for a reason. No matter what memory-safe languages or static analysis tools we have at our disposal there will always be bugs and exploits.

R5: Wanted to show you guys my Norse Iceland run so far, where I managed to get over 100k pops in my capital.

Main rules I set for myself was no changing culture and no moving my capital elsewhere in Europe (tho I am considering establishing and escaping to Vinland). Norse has been crazy fun as I could raid basically any nation with a weak navy for slaves and it was a completely different playstyle.

Anyway here are some tips for pulling this off:

1. Make sure you have the 'religious conversion: present in country' gamerule

2. Wait until you can pull Denmark and England into an independence war, you can't wait too long however as we need Norway's two provinces with Norse religion pops. I find that most countries in continental Europe fail to move their troops around and lose to attrition

3. Take the two provinces (Grenland and Amli) with Norse pops plus one province in Greenland, Orkney as a vassal and as much land in Norway to make a subject. Orkney will be very useful for moving your navies around.

4. Convert to Norse then give the Norwegian land to your subjects ASAP, we want to avoid a really annoying religious war.

My tips for this point onwards are:

- Try to upgrade to duchy as soon as you get independence prestige is really hard to get when you are Norse

- Ireland is great at the start of the game for slaves as the Irish minors are weak and ANY population increase will be helpful

- Get a town in either Keflavik or Hvolsvollur ASAP

- Try to force convert subjects or other countries so you can actually royal marry

- Spam fishing villages early game and subsidize them to get sailors until you can get docks

- Take a province that is next to the Isles to get the galley lords reform, this allows piracy and you can make a LOT of money for navy/army mercenaries which you can use to get more slaves

- When you have a sizable navy southern Italy or Greece is great for slaves, just land your troops, get the slaves and quickly pull out

You can upgrade your licence to fulls before you pay the fine which means 3 things. 1. You dont have to spend extra time on your green ps 2. You can elect for good behaviour where you get one year with two points and just be careful and safe and you’ll be fine. 3. I believe it is possible to get double suspended if you get enough points where your ps get suspended twice? If this is so upgrading to fulls will avoid this.

Shit happens just be careful in the future.

The reason I'm guessing its EoC is there are many provinces with 0 separatism and 0 other cores which should not have separatists.

There are a lot of provinces that have 0 separatism and no other cores which still have separatist rebels e.g. southern Japan which is Saigoku instead of Tougoku, which is why my guess is EoC
