Good work!

CopperCloudGameAudio

It looks great. It’s hard to see what the gameplay is about.

Thank you so much!!! This is exactly how I hoped the track would land!

Thank you for the kind feedback! I hope that our messages are getting translated correctly. I don’t speak Portuguese.

I can understand where you’re coming from with the chromaticism. I come from a jazz background so it does not sound funny to me. I have to remember that not everybody has the same experience. This is a good reminder of that.

I completely understand the frustration here. It’s tough when people don’t read the description and don’t tailor what they include to be relevant to your asks.

I would like to highlight a few of the struggles on the opposite side of the spectrum. I am an audio artist that responds to posts asking for custom audio. I try to always include direct links to projects. I’ve worked on that are relevant to what the poster is asking for. Often times these messages are completely ignored. It’s not hard to type out a two sentence rejection and send it to everyone that responded.

Is this paid or unpaid?

I appreciate the follow up. You definitely make more nuanced points here than you did on your first comment. Without the elaboration, your first statement is incredibly black and white. I felt the need to comment that you made a sweeping generalization that could be harmful to those in the early stages of the learning process.

I agree that learning this craft takes a lot of time and effort. I agree that there is a lot of content on YouTube and elsewhere that focuses effort into unhelpful areas. I also agree that we should be comfortable in the genres we are being asked to work in and should familiarize ourselves with the projects we are working on.

I do feel the need to continue to disagree on a few of your points, there is more to learning anything then just hard work or putting in the time. Improvement does not just happen by getting in the DAW and just working, it comes about through intentional practice. You may be aware of this, but for the sake of those trying to learn I want to state it very clearly. This is well documented by both research and practicing artisans.

If you look at my video, I am not presenting it as a silver bullet or guru-level trick. I work though a real track using the technique I am talking about. I show an example of doing the work within the structured limitations I have given myself. My goal is giving practical advise that comes with an achievable short term goal. This is how incremental progress is made. And yes, it requires a lot of hard work, but just saying the only relevant factor is simply working is unhelpful for those trying to learn.

To respond to some of your other points, I did not say anything about taking on projects you cannot handle. I did not talk about working in genres you are unfamiliar with. And I have never used generative AI in my work including my proposals, posts, or comments on this or any other internet forum. I have never used generative AI in my work as a composer.

I have had extensive training and practical experience as a teacher. I have had the opportunity to learn a lot about how people process information. My responses are an effort to disagree with your points that I believe could be harmful to a less experienced person reading this thread.

I am happy that you have found a method(s) that work for you. You should keep going if you have found something that works!

However, your comment is what's called "all or nothing thinking". There is more than one method that composers have come up with to create. One of my favorite VGM composers, Yasunori Mitsuda, is infamous for struggling horribly with his music (such to the point where he gets sick). It is actually okay to feel stuck or have difficulties making a decision. My point was to present an alternative workflow in case that helps someone become unstuck or have fun approaching music from a different angle. Most people learn better in an emotionally safe and supportive environment. What you are proposing is that people should feel shame for not having ideas "spark". Further you are also suggesting that they should quit or not even try if they are not having this outpouring of ideas. This is extremely unhelpful and should not be presented as a truth to live by.

You can do lots of work with the pulse width modulation and filters!

I think the vibe of this is awesome. I would suggest having a comping instrument with a bit crisper attack on the B section (piano or keyboard). Have you checked your loop in audio only?

In a more personal preference way, I think it would be nice it to have more energy from the percussion in the B section (maybe even double time feel). I think that is what the chord figures are suggesting. Also, I find the acid bass somewhat too attention getting. It might behoove the vibe to cut out some of the mids of the bass to soften its touch.

I don't really hear many composers talking about sound choices in an intentional way. Besides choosing the right tempo, having well selected/crafted sounds might be the most important choice in media composition. I agree with you wholeheartedly that we need to be making more conscious choices. I think that choosing what to focus on can really benefit not only the final result, but the efficiency of the composition process.
