The TV deal expires this off-season. Renewal numbers shouldn't be too far off from that.

Refs decided Miami needed to win idc
Coteup
Must-win game imo. This is the best chance we'll have to beat Miami in years and dropping 3 straight MAC games would not be a good sign for this staff. Good opportunity to see more of what we have in Glasser and hopefully spread open the offense
Coteup
Nope. There's been a massive, measurable drop in the quality at G6.
Coteup
We weren't before the new 2020s garbage is my point.
Coteup
I've been 100% against the idea of a G6 playoff because it would essentially be a step towards FCS relegation. We'd just be the new lower level, which means lower exposure and worse talent. But if they're going to completely kill the G6 regardless by expanding without giving G6 any additional spots, no transfer portal restrictions, ending bowl games, and getting rid of our conference championships, it would be pretty much the only option to give G6 teams a reason to play at all.
Coteup
The new selection criteria is them including "Strength of Conference" as a criteria for ranking starting this season. They aren't going to rank multiple G6 teams. They diluted the regular season product to add 12 extra spots for the P4. And they're now talking about getting rid of conference championships, so the MAC will have effectively nothing to play for.
Coteup
Realignment is tearing apart our conference, and the 24 team playoff is threatening the future of the MAC championship game, and threatening to end most bowl games. So it absolutely affects us.
Coteup
Those other levels of the sport didn't have the tradition of bowl games, conference championships, high stakes regular season, etc. You aren't building a system from scratch, you first have to permanently tear down the structure of FBS that made most of us like it in the first place.
Coteup
It's great for the mediocre P4 teams. G6 teams (half of FBS) got screwed. Zero new guaranteed spots and changes to selection criteria designed to make it easier to justify leaving them unranked.
Coteup
Yeah, I have similar feelings on the congressional bill capping player compensation but not coach compensation. There's a lot of valid critiques here against what has happened to CFB but players getting compensated ain't one

Part of Drinkall's answer on 24-team Playoff and the health of the sport:
All everything since COVID has just 100 percent been reaction. No one has ever said “OK, well if we do this, what does it look like 15 years from now?” “What does this look like 10 years from now?” “Is this in the best interest culturally of everyone?” Or is it all “just how do I save my ass and make the most money right this second right now?” Which is what everyone’s going to do. Whoever has to sell TV spots or tickets at every school or promote a conference, they’re not interested in what’s good for the sport of football. They’re not interested in what’s good for young people coming up… But they want to know what makes my job the most amount of money right now, so everything since COVID, all [the] reactionary conference realignment, eligibility, paying players, transfer policies… None of it’s good. None of it is in the best interest of the student-athlete, none of it’s in the best interest of the sport. It’s just like everybody went nuts at once. And it’s just been a downward spiral that’s nonstop until it’s going to be a smoldering dumpster fire left like the Truffula trees and the Lorax. Like they’re going to ring this sport out for every cent they can as long as they can and prostitute the sport for financial gain. Until people stop caring, just like they did with boxing back in the 20s, Major League Baseball back when they sell all these fields out, they’re going to prostitute it as much as they can as possible until people stop caring.

CMU is probably in the poorer half of MAC schools and we still completely dwarf 95% of the FCS in program funding, stadium size, fanbase, etc
Coteup
24 team playoff directly makes all of these upsets much less important
Coteup
We don't have a QB, the playcalls suck, and our best players on defense graduated

First Saturday game vs Western since 2018 so expecting a packed house
Coteup
It's objective reality that making a 24 team playoff is less impressive than making a playoff with fewer spots.
Coteup
That was before media rights deals were remotely close to what they are today
Coteup
The MAC commissioner and all other G6 commissioners enthusiastically voted to permanently give away their voting power to the P4 (ie. their only leverage in the NCAA for the rest of time).
Coteup
I simply don't agree. Losing in the first round of a 24 team playoff is nothing special. 24 teams is 1/3 of the entire P4. It won't have the meaning that making the CFP has even now.
Coteup
It doesn't need to make sense for all 18 members, it just needs to make sense for the biggest ones.
Coteup
Yeah and your season ends with a blowout road loss to Oregon instead of a fun neutral site game.
It makes the individual regular season games matter much less, just like the NFL.
