It appears that Jesus was able to change his appearance at will. People would not recognize him, but then later suddenly recognize him and realize who he was. This could be because he was changing his appearance. Or it could be because he was controlling whether or not the other people could recognize him.
I suspect once we receive our glorified bodies, we'll have a lot of control over our appearance, and more than just clothing or hair. I think we'll be able to control our weight, how muscular we are, maybe skin color to a degree, and even height or age. But regardless, we'll be a more perfect version of ourselves. So imperfections like scars or birth marks will be gone. And facial symmetry will be perfect.
I've heard multiple people who had NDEs (so take it with a grain of salt) say that everyone in heaven appears to be about 30. Personally, I'd rather appear closer to 18 to 21. I still had my hair then. lol

The IT job market is one of the worst I've seen in 35 years. It's difficult for everyone right now.
Back in the 90s, there was an Indian guy in our friend group. He had recently gotten citizenship, but still had a significant accent even after being in the US for more than 10 years. (the funny thing was he was convinced he had no accent at all. lol) Anyway, once he got his citizenship, finding work seemed to get more difficult for him. We all theorized that it was because he was now the worst of both worlds. Like people tolerate strong Indian accents or Indians in general because they're paid less. But now, here was this senior developer who was a citizen, and rightly expected to be paid what the rest of us were getting. And this resulted in no one wanting to hire him.
I'm not sure how true that is. But it was the best theory we could come up with for all the trouble he was having. Because he was a good guy who should have had no trouble getting a job.
I'd advise your husband to take a dive on the rate/salary to take anything, then keep looking. And if he hasn't been considering consulting work, he should. I'd also add an objective or mission statement to the top of his resume saying that he has a green card and is pursuing citizenship. Also, if he has totally dropped his accent, he should say on his resume that he has native-level English skills. And lastly, I hate to say this, but if his name is Kumar or something similar, maybe he should consider going by Kevin on his resume. He needs to sound as American as possible.

I think he meant he owns the work drive, not the contents. If that's the case, he's correct and within his rights to wipe the drive.

I've had two highlanders. They were easily some of the worst cars I've ever had. I suspect it's the newer ones that are terrible.

Not ALL people should be permanently out of a job... just 60% of them.

You can't claim that the bible tells wives to be a servant to their husbands without acknowledging that it also tells husbands to be a servant to their wives.
CuttingEdgeRetro
Well then you go right on ahead and advise the creator of the universe the best way to run things.
CuttingEdgeRetro
...in one little book.

You're assuming that everyone was an unthinking robot who executed every law to the letter without any common sense. Jesus called out the Pharisees for doing exactly that.
These laws can't possibly cover every possible situation that could arise anywhere at any time. This is why religious leaders or judges had to interpret the law and the situation to determine the best way to apply the law, exactly the way judges do it today.
CuttingEdgeRetro
That's not what I said.
I also would question that 50% number. Whether or not that happens depends on her age, the relative size if the girl, whatever activities she was or wasn't involved in leading up to then, probably genetics, at a time before tampons had been invented, and probably a bunch of other variables.
But it doesn't matter. If everyone knew she was virtuous... because every town was a small town... then no one would question it, regardless of whether she bled or not. It's only an issue if everyone thought she was fine and now this guy was claiming that she wasn't. And even then, maybe she wouldn't have been stoned.
It's enough to make him think twice before trying a stunt like this, and enough to make her think twice before messing around. Did women sometimes get wrongly accused and stoned as a result? Maybe. We'll never know. But the law likely prevented far more problems than it caused.
Also there were laws before Moses not sure where you are getting that insane idea from.
Oh, there were laws, in some places for some people. And even then, you think everyone followed them?
"In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit." Judges 17:6
This was the best the omnipotent creator of the universe could do.
Was it the best God could do? Or was it the best that totally screwed up people could be expected to be able to handle?
CuttingEdgeRetro
First, it's important to understand that the Law of Moses replaced total anarchy. It was a vast improvement over how people handled problems before. Later, when civilization progressed, the Law of Moses was replaced with something more appropriate for the times.
The point of this passage is that men were changing their minds about marrying the girl after the fact, and accusing her of being promiscuous as a way to end the marriage. Notice how it says he dislikes her, not just that he found she wasn't a virgin. If this happened to a woman, she would be totally screwed for life. No one would marry her, which means that she would never have a husband or sons to take care of her. And since women couldn't work, she'd likely end up either a beggar or a prostitute. This is not to say that this is the ideal sort of civilization, just that this is how the world was back then.
This was also a warning to women about maintaining purity until marriage. The rule given in verses 13 to 19 needs to be offset with verses 20 to 21, otherwise women could mess around all they want while claiming to be virgins, then when the new husband discovers that she's not a virgin, she could just claim that he didn't like her and is just using it as an excuse.
Whether or not women were actually stoned for failing to produce the correct proof is another matter.
CuttingEdgeRetro
I can bring up some choice bible passages how how god says to treat women.
You're welcome to try. I'm certain that you're misunderstanding any bible passage that you think is treating women negatively. And I have responses for all of them.
Usually at this point, people post passages about women being forced to marry their rapist, or Canaanite women being forced into slavery by the Israelite army. And like I said, I have responses for all of them.
But it doesn't matter how I respond. You've already decided that you hate God. So there's nothing I can say to you that will change your mind.
CuttingEdgeRetro
You know, it's funny. I walked through the house and told my wife about this conversation. As I walked back out to come back to my office to work, she said, "Hey, can you turn the fan on, slave?" She said this as she was lying on the bed getting ready to take nap. lol
CuttingEdgeRetro
So?
What matters is whether she's happy with our marriage. And she is. I'm happy with it also.
In a good marriage, women need love, and men need respect. Doing things the biblical way greatly increases your chances of having a happy and stable marriage. The last thing I would ever want is to be married to a harpy who is constantly trying to force her will on every decision that comes along. A power struggle isn't conducive to a happy marriage.
Or is the only way for you to be happy is if it's the husband who's the servant?
CuttingEdgeRetro
I serve my wife by going to work every day and providing for her. She doesn't have to work and hasn't for the last 30 years. I also protect her, drive her all over the place, repair things around the house, and rub her arthritic joints for her.
But yeah, she's my servant.
CuttingEdgeRetro
Challenges my authority by demanding her own authority over me?
Yeah, no thanks.
But there's no reason why we can't respect each other and make decisions together.
CuttingEdgeRetro
Humans are separate from creation. Humans were given free will. We were perfect until we caused sin to enter creation. Then we began to slowly die, with problems in creation causing more sickness and disease.
Humans also use free will to make bad decisions, environmental pollution for example, that lead to cancer or other diseases.
CuttingEdgeRetro
The context here is talking about conduct in worship.
CuttingEdgeRetro
lol. Those are some awesome mental gymnastics.
CuttingEdgeRetro
You said this:
since he's christian he wants a servant
That's not what that bible quote says. And that's not how christian marriages work, unless both people are serving each other.
CuttingEdgeRetro
A woman who demands that she keep her name, or wants to do that ridiculous hyphenated name thing, isn't in the right frame of mind for a christian marriage. It suggests that she has a pride problem, and will try to force her will whenever decisions need to be made.
What's supposed to happen is what my wife and I have. She runs all the finances because that worked well for us. But we make larger financial decisions together. We also make our longer term goals together, ensuring that we're on the same page. I take her opinions into consideration because I respect her intelligence. I want to hear her opinion. Because we're working together. But ultimately, I can veto things that I think are a bad idea. And similarly, I don't make decisions that she thinks are a bad idea.
But she signed on to "us". Not "her and me". And she couldn't wait to change her name once we got married.
Ultimately, I'm in charge. But in 35 years, that's never even come up. We just work together, respect each other, and have a happy life.
CuttingEdgeRetro
What?
I don't especially like Trump. I think he's arrogant and obnoxious. And he's doing a far worse job this term than he did the first. Still, he's a much better choice than Biden or Kamala. If the Dems would actually run someone who was worth anything and wasn't a complete lunatic, I'd consider it.
CuttingEdgeRetro
Again, it's not about the name. It's about her attitude.
CuttingEdgeRetro
That's not what the bible says.
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing\)b\) her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”\)c\) 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Ephesians 5:21-33
It's not the US. Scooters in Latin America don't have the stigma they have here. Still, it's pretty weak. It would have been better had he rode off on one of the friends' real motorcycles.
