As far as I'm aware anniversary isn't on layers anymore, but I could be wrong.

My point still stands that if you were to isolate a singular realm, let's say from retail this time because they definitely have shards, the functionality of spinning up new shards and sending players across them isn't all that different beyond scale.

Early in the beta the actual old style realm list would appear occasionally.

Non-Rp realms in retail have been approaching this situation for a little while now. I don't think there's anything particularly crazy about spinning up and load balancing zone shards.

The only thing they're really doing differently from anniversary classic is names being unique across the entire region.

Edit: We've had sharding since WoD, it's not a new concept.

The short version is you have a server that's running a bunch of containers that each have an instance of a zone, and when you're in that shard your client talks to that particular container on the server for things relevant to the world. All of these containers would be connected to the same database that would run a regular realm. Their load balancing server determines which shard of a particular zone you will enter. Zone & World wide chat is on a different server which only handles those.

Containers are nice because they're easy to spin up and shut down as demand for shards comes and goes.

The part that I'd love to be able to dig into is how they balance people between the different shards (other than what they've announced, being language, friends & guild, and recent allies), or how they determine how many shards they need, but that is not something I know.

I would really suggest looking into load balancers and containerization (docker, kubernetes) because those are the main concepts and they're used for every major online service.

They could make it a multi stop route if they really wanted to.

I believe they've learned some things about the art style over the beta period, and I'm hoping they'll be able to bring in newer models with style appropriate texturing. The new Forsaken Paladin mount looks amazing.

Abandoning old content, flying, reducing the exp requirements to level through previous expansions, the random dungeon finder in WotLK. All of these things were ways to reduce friction for players, but ultimately made the game less and less of a world.

I'm looking forward to the world, not some interface panel, being the main focus again.

I believe the saving grace on this in particular is that Blizz would be choosing what to poll. If they would even bother to poll adding flying mounts then we were already doomed. In addition, they'd be capable of adding filters and playtime requirements to particular polls as well.

So as to say, I support adding OSRS polling.

Since you already have the new race, I'd actually suggest trying the new elves out, not because they're particularly special but because their new starting zone will give you a good idea of what the Forever team is going to be able to put out regarding quests.

To me, it feels mostly like a classic zone, a little bit like a burning crusade starting zone too, and that's pretty much what I want out of it.

Cyerdous

Retail is also getting the new paladin races: forsaken, night elf, and darkspear troll.

Cyerdous

It might eat a solid portion of the populations of Classic and Anniversary, but they aren't shuttering the servers because of it.

Cyerdous

Retail already doesn't appeal to classic players all that much imo. Retail is mostly built to run people into dungeons and raids, you get a little bit of open world chores to do but even then they make so much of it completely optional.

I was proud of how mandatory they made the quests for the new zone until we realized we could just summon our hunter at the summoning stone for raid night.

Genuinely they just need to make sure master chief's stories are told in game form. You can do as many tie in works as you like so long as the main video game character's story is told through video games. I still want a video game covering the events of first strike.

I have looked at postmarketOS actually. I'm mostly lamenting about a lack of support and compatibility for newer devices. And I knew that android was a modified Linux as well.

I did not know (though I should have) that waydroid runs android apps natively, I figured there was some amount of emulation or a translation layer there.

One day I'll install postmarketOS on my OnePlus 6T.

I love the little deck verified mark on the store page, because I can use it as a super quick benchmark to see if I can play the game on my Linux PC, and it even breaks down why playable games aren't verified, and it's usually incorrect glyphs or font size and those aren't concerns at all on my desktop.

Cyerdous

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Android just the kernel? Most android phone makers also maintain their own "distro" of android to pre install.

I wouldn't include Android in the actual Linux sphere until I could substitute the Android kernel in for the Linux kernel on my desktop, or maybe run Arch Linux on my phone with the Android kernel. (Alas I understand that this is, at least in part, a firmware issue.)

Cyerdous

I wouldn't call anyone who didn't play during the Bungie multiplayer era a fake fan, but it's the golden era for us for a reason, it's when we had the most fun with the franchise.

A lot of the experience related to the era/development of online gaming.

Honestly I'm happy for anyone who's experiencing the magic of online games whatever they're playing. Halo 3 & ODST is really just when I felt the magic most.

You might be best served by reaching out to the customer service accounts on twitter. I would keep creating support tickets even if you're only getting chatbot attention.

You have to get their attention so making as big of a stink as you can might be the only way.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

I believe this was their original intention for Death Knights but they didn't do it for some reason.

I hope they do it in Classic+

At my university, the difference between a Computer Science and Engineering degree, and an Electrical Engineering degree, was about 4 classes, and it wasn't terribly rare for people to pursue both.

I consider myself an engineer because my education wasn't just "Oh here's how you code things," I learned how everything works, from physics and mathematics to circuits and code.

Now my job on the other hand, well I think anyone who took a class or three could do it, but they pay me decently enough for now.

Honestly I hope another grocery store opens in the space.

I think you have to fill the crafter in order, using the slot toggles to produce the appropriate shape. The video makes it look like items don't stack when you fill it with hoppers.

This misses a distinction between bending ability and bending skill. Sure they gained ability from the lion turtles, this was set up during the finale of ATLA with the lion turtle granting Aang the ability to energy bend; however, they make it clear that the martial arts behind bending were learned from the animals who naturally have those abilities.

ATLA says they learned bending from the sky bison, the moon, the badger moles, the dragons, not that those creatures granted them the ability to sling the elements around, and considering they knew about the lion turtles from the very beginning, I think the distinction is significant.

Skill, which is remembered in legend, from the original benders; ability, which has been forgotten, from the lion turtles, also forgotten.
