It is a freshly 3D game, probably just did it because they thought it looked neat.

This isn't great news if xiv team is subjected to that much red tape via square or the vii team, tells me that the vii themed raid is going to be the stiffest, safest and forgettable raid series if you aren't even allowed to have gender neutral clothing due to brand protection

I feel the prey one was poorly implemented, because it is a four digit code, with no attempts lock out, you can get 3/4 and easily bruteforce the last. That isn't "cheating" even on a first play through, especially when the last number I needed had a very finnicky trigger to register that I "found" it.
(This is assuming it is the dnd knock off quest)
DJShazbot
Oh dear, guess I am never seeing a jet in this game
DJShazbot
Fuel sources don't need to be huge or heavy (assumed nuclear fusion akin to the mechs) but you still need engines large and stable enough to exude the energy in a controlled manner while overcoming the the weight of the load that is whatever that gravity well escaping ship is carrying.
Chalk it up to Lancer being gritty when convenient (Light speed travel and realistic space distances) and hand wave-y when it is cool. Equal room for a plot where a spaceport is instrumental and necessary or you can be like a starwars xwing and casually leave.

The campaign for No Room for A Wallflower makes a big deal about getting the landing pad working again for sending and receiving planetside shipments. The fact you can't just cut down a bunch of trees and solve the problem that way implies you need reinforced and protrcted surfaces to support the ships. To me that suggests that gravity well escape is still somehow very much grounded in reality and you'd need a classically humongous ship with giant boosters to get out to space.
Though as people pointed out solstice rain seems to have a battle tech style drop ship
DJShazbot
I'll have to double check my progress on my trees. I remember starting Japanese WAAAAAAAY long ago when the only available jet was like the prototype jets for select factions like Germany and US
and then I came back again on US when proper jets started to show up. stopped looong before f-14 was announced and released. Have to see if my US progress is high enough or if I should just pivot to japan

Hi, the thing just arrived and I installed it. my chair is a Secret Labs and they fit just fine, just hope you have a 2nd person or a piece of furniture to prop it upside down against because it is a pain to install solo.
but once it is on, it is sturdy metal. No QOL stuff like quick release levers or adjusters, you gotta find what you like then tighten the bolts and it will stay solid there.
Oh yeah small edit, there is no quick release either so put it on a chair you don't mind 24/7 stick attachment. You can rotate it 180 to put them aside if need be. You can also detach the column relatively quickly but best to keep the allen wrench near by
DJShazbot
Thank you for describing differential breaking, got it, planes don't really turn but pivot on one locked wheel. Definitely not something I've had to deal with for 3 second of runway time in games like warthunder or ace combat
DJShazbot
As a completely ignorant sim person, what does toe break do for the rudder?
DJShazbot
That's what I was thinking which is also a shame because I freaking loved seeing what I could hookshot (until the likelike)
DJShazbot
The amount of times I have someone dead to rights only to be staggered by some form of friendly fire that lets the enemy scurry/knockdown is too damn high!
DJShazbot
I would doubt the dentist actually believed you would look better and just had a surgeon friend he would get a cut from for referrals which put that into grifter/exploiter territory to me

So LL0 exists to let you understand how to do the general combat flow. If you have somebody at your table who suffers from "I don't know what my rage does" as a level 1 barbarian in dnd (those are way more common than you think) then this system will eat them alive at ll3. If you guys are tabletop wargamers of the 40k or battletech variety or just old school 3.5 edition dnd players,, you have nothing to worry about, lancer is less complex and more game-y
I know custom builds are addictive in this game, if you have a table that is already actively fantasizing builds then they may have a grasp of the system or they are completely misintrepreting the rules and will be severely disappointed when they find out that "ally" does not include self or other minor details arise.
Ll3 isn't just the mechs but the talents and core power as well, it is a massive checklist of things that modifies gameplay.
A possible compromise is to say do ll3 but all in one license of their choice (all raleigh for example) all mechs are designed to self synergize though some are better at self synergy than others but it does keep the playspace smaller without being overwhelming and it helps put some guardrails on their builds being underwhelming since each mech has a very distinct and clear role it is meant to perform. If you can't identify what it is originally intended to do out of box, that is a strong indicator you don't know the system well enough
DJShazbot
Oh leaning is a fun point, I haven't played many fps games these days do that totally escaped me. Many games also have an auto lean when near a corner anyway.
DJShazbot
Regardless of your choice, you are gonna have to do some joystick gremlin->vjoy-> xoutput shenanigans for ace combat 8.
Pedals are the least amount of value for cash (they only control the yaw after all in most cases) so it is purely a simulation peripheral. The gladiator has a twist axis which works perfectly fine so I say go for the omnithrottle or stecs. Both those options have means for controlling elite dangerous style space flight easy
DJShazbot
I found out what it was, dawn:aero war, which is a cinematic series instead of a game (Why)
DJShazbot
I remember seeing a trailer for another ace combat-like made by the pw guys (but different universe) or something but now I can't find it anymore
DJShazbot
God I back this game waaaaaaaaay back when the option to do so was first announced which included sq 42, I better be able to access the game.
DJShazbot
There is something funny about posting the patlabor gif and not discounting the rg patlabor. It has some great neck pistons but not much else unfortunately
DJShazbot
Yeah gimp does things in ways that I argue is solely to be different from photoshop, the reflexive uses of left or right clicking on a picture or what certain icons mean or the difference in shortcut hotkeys can cause a lot of friction.
I am sure there are "make it work like photoshop" downloads you can do but it is an extra step
DJShazbot
So gonna add on things here
X52 and x56 saitek work out of box (with some weird caveats, like no input remapping and all the prompts showing up as xbox and some things like freelook not working, all the buttons work though) there are branded hori and thrustmaster ac8 controllers you can buy.
Generally hotas is only worth if you want the immersion factor and possibly have other games (project wingman, ac7, elite dangerous, star citizen, dcs, microsoft flight sim, warthunder) to use it on. Otherwise it is a 300-500 dollar investment for not a lot of return because you will feel clumsy and awkward at first.
But boy does it feel great when you get used to it. if you are not using the licensed or saitek hotas AND you plan on playing more flight simish games, I highly suggest the VKB gladiator nxt EVO premium or vkb gunfighter depending on your budget. They also have an omni throttle and a regular throttle. A proper hotas set up from them will be about 400 bucks but considering the saitek is 300 or so and is made out of worst parts and is less durable... I say it is worth it
Then you have to set up joystick gremlin to vjoy to xoutput to gaslight ac8 into thinking you are using an xbox controller
DJShazbot
Thing is, I can see how this would work in old looney tunes style.
The problem is there is too much detail.
Tweety could have pulled the bones out without the sticky viscera holding it to the walls coming with it
Sylvester could have not looked like he was bleeding in his eyes.
Just those 2 removals would lend towards the humorous slapstick rather than the ren and stimpy factor.. looney tunes violence works because they remove the grounding in reality not only in actions but in consequences
DJShazbot
I need to get freeze frames of the text that flashes by
Why isn't this a gaaaaaaaame :(
