Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin definitely.

Nah DW 1-3 are not so bad it's good, they each have their flaws for sure (though DW1 has the least flaws of the 3) but they're still still good games. Maybe something like Chaos Wars would fall under so bad it's good but that's moreso for the ridiculously bad voice acting for the most part.

In Ar Tonelico there are people who can cast magic by singing called Reyvateils (they are physically human in almost every other way and can breed with humans). However only girls can become Reyvateils and if a guy was born with the Reyvateil gene it becomes dormant (they literally scientifically explained that the male Y chromosome suppresses the reyvateil gene) so if that guy has a daughter then the daughter could still become a reyvateil (not guaranteed but she could become one).

It's not all good though as mixed blood Reyvateils have short lifespans and need to regularly extend it by having a large crystal called a life extending agent shoved into them which is apparently quite painful but leads to a lot of innuendo moments.

First Jrpg ever: Pokemon Crystal on GBA followed by Fire Red and Emerald

First Jrpg on a console: Digimon World 2 on PS1

Jrpg that actually got me into jrpgs: FF9 on PS1 which got me to play FF8, FF7, Chrono Cross, Breath of Fire 4 etc.

DMind_Gaming

That's the same mentality that got people like Trump elected twice and look how it's going for them.

360: Great start, bad end (red ring of death)

PS3: Bad start (lack of games, more expensive than the others), great end (reduced original price and had a bunch of good games later on)

Yes that is the loop of most RPGs but most RPGs also have a story within that loop. My point is that you're doing the loop purely for the sake of doing the loop and no other reason, you're not avenging your family or rescuing the princess, there's no character development, you're just fighting the boss just cause. Maybe by the end there is a bit of a story with the Grand Master but everyone keeps saying that the story is almost non existent and from what I see there seems to be no other goal other than to just keep repeating the loop.

DMind_Gaming

Yeah but the Grand Master would just be the final boss so again the whole loop is just exploring, fight bosses, get stronger and upgrade gear until you eventually fight the final boss and then The End.

Another game I would compare this to is Metal Saga (or the Metal Max series in general) which I do enjoy. In that game you're also released into a big overworld with towns and dungeons on it and can explore as you please with no fixed linear direction. However that game does still has a story to tell, multiple stories in fact. You go to one town and find out they have a cultist problem and so you go hunt them down, go to another town and find out there's an ancient monster threatening it and demanding human sacrifices and there's even an overarching story that you slowly uncover as you explore that eventually leads to the final boss. Your party members as well as a lot of the bosses you fight have personality, backstory and goals and even the main character while he's mostly a silent protagonist has dialogue options and a family and hometown that he grew up in. Quests can have multiple endings like choosing to spare a criminal who has given up his criminal ways or killing him to collect the reward and orphaning his kid.

Just things like these I feel is what's lacking from Crystal Project but hey it's hard for me to judge without having actually played it so maybe when I have the time I'll give it a try but for now there are other games in backlog I'd rather play first.

DMind_Gaming

I've watched some trailers and gameplay after hearing others praising this game. I like turn based combat, class/job systems and grinding so everything about Crystal Project's combat gameplay seems right up my alley, the problem I have though is literally everything else with the game.

Like what is the end goal? Is it just exploring for exploration's sake? What is our character's motivation/goals/backstory etc.? Cause it seems like we're just a blank slate of a character that's exploring, fighting bosses, getting stronger, upgrading gear rinse and repeat. I don't mind exploring for exploration's sake and the cycle of exploring and getting stronger but there has to be something else that motivates me to push on and keep doing this like am I building up enough wealth to buy a house, get married and have a child? Am I rising in some sort of ranking to be the No. 1 Adventurer? Am I trying to find the One Piece and become a king? Like give me something to work with here.

DMind_Gaming

I've not played all of the Metal Max series of games but from what I understand of the overarching plot is that in the future of our current world human tech advanced but so did our pollution and global warming and the world is at risk of being destroyed by it so the humans at the time built a super AI to solve the problem. The AI came out with some solutions but realised that the only way to truly "fix" the problem and ensure that the world survives is to destroy humankind and so it caused an apocalypse (like it fired off nukes or whatever) wiping off the vast majority of the human population. However there are small pockets of humans that managed to survive the apocalypse and that's when the Metal Max games takes place in the post apocalypse world with the final boss usually being either some remnant of the Super AI wanting to finish the job or someone wanting to excavate/awaken the remnant of the Super AI either intentionally or unintentionally.

Number 1 is from Mana Khemia 2

DMind_Gaming

I've no preference for one or the other but usually there are differences in gameplay team building between them. When a game has more characters it's usually because each character has their own specialty/niche (the healer, the mage, the warrior etc.) whereas if a game has exact party members you usually have options/freedom to customize their build (for example Bravely Default where you can change classes freely).

As for story purposes again I'm fine with either one, more characters provide more character diversity and interactions while exact can make the group more tight knit and gives more time to develop and flesh out each character. Again no preference as it comes down to how good the writing and story actually is.

DMind_Gaming

I'll agree about the story of Unbound being not that good, the final villain and twist is stupid and even pathetic at the end.

DMind_Gaming

I mean another way to interpret it is that she got pregnant again and the baby is just sleeping in bed or something.

DMind_Gaming

It does affect the politicians though, in that the more the fires go on the more money the plantations make and the more bribes the politicians receive. The health and environmental damage are a sacrifice they're willing to make.

Tbf Jane without the hammer doesn't exactly have the best of figures...

1) Godlike entity who hates humans loses a bet and lashes out like a sore loser

2) Girl who likes writing fanfic and hates wearing clothes wants to destroy the world

3) Edgy highschooler obsessed with your little sister because she was nice to him 1 time

He talked about it a little in a podcast, said he wanted to make a video like a mini documentary/vlog of his trip, he had 1 other person riding along with him and had a car following within 50 minutes in case anything happens during the trip. I'm not sure where he stayed throughout his trip but there was a picture posted of him staying at a hotel (I think it was posted by the hotel owner/staff after he already left) in some small town along the way to Singapore so he probably stayed at those roadside hotels throughout his trip.

There you go, better journalism than Straits Times can I get paid by them now?

DMind_Gaming

If we didn't get the software update delay and the race had started earlier in Sepang Ferrari probably wouldn't have started him on softs and instead put him on intermediates and we could've seen Max, Lewis, Kimi and George fighting in wet conditions but alas what could've been.

DMind_Gaming

As others have said money, more specifically investors, advertisers, businesses and governments with money. Why race at disliked street circuits? Because they and their investors want as much money as possible and countries and businesses are willing to pay more to have the race there, why are they paying for it? Because it brings in tourism and revenue to businesses in the area and also for the case of governments it helps promote their country to the rest of the world (Sportswashing).

Think about it, a lot of proper race tracks are not usually surrounded by expensive hotels, casinos, malls etc. so while business and revenue in the area does increase when they host an F1 GP the amount earned would not be as much as city street circuits where they do have all those facilities and thus can rake in more money so they are willing to throw more money to host a GP than proper race tracks.

So why not build a good proper race track in the city then? Because it doesn't earn the cities more money for doings so, a proper track takes up valuable land space and costs money to maintain, why do that when you can just close some streets to host the race for a few days? They don't really care if the race is good or not, just that it brings in money.

Some prankster has a good opportunity to walk around dressed up as pyramid head now

DMind_Gaming

When there's a romantic interest or harem and the characters/relationship feels extremely shallow and unearned.

DMind_Gaming

What if you have intrusive thoughts that you can't control?

DMind_Gaming

Same for me with the Pokemon series (crystal was the first) which is technically my first jrpg but that didn't really encourage me to try other rpgs. It was not until I played and enjoyed FF9 that made me try out FF8 and 7 and then Breath of Fire 4 and so on.
