DaMarkiM

thats a lukewarm take if ive ever heard one

DaMarkiM

„but I don't think it'll make squads overwhelmingly strong or anything“

sometimes people here write stuff that is just extremely baffling to me.

DaMarkiM

imma be honest: out of a hundred games in my library days gone is the only one having such problems. problems that are common enough with other players that there are dedicated „try this to fix it„ lists.

im not inclined to believe that my pc is the issue.

multiple people having a pc issue that only ever affects just one single game is statistically unlikely. especially considering said game ran just fine for two weeks on said pc until it crashed mid combat.

and one game - no matter how much id like to finish it - is not worth the hassle to completely redo the OS and all the setup work associated with that.

DaMarkiM

i hope that wherever they are going fixing the catastrophic bug that makes it so i cant even launch the game is a pit stop on the way.

(yesyes, ive tried every step of the community list of possible fixes. and more. for all intents and purposes the game is broken for me)

DaMarkiM

powercreep and lack of availability.

like...whats the point of telling new players "this unit is pretty good" if they have no way to get her?

DaMarkiM

hey, im not saying its the first time this situation happened.

but it wasnt great back then and it isnt great now. and id argue its worse for hsin since the eFlare side of her kit already has a unit that should have been a good support for her, but isnt (eRover not only has a special connection to her, she also literally is the source of his electro powers), but is also a complete unknown at her release.

like. if you pulled for hsin with the intent to run eFlare you dont even know right now whether you should pull for suoming or wait. at least with augusta or unison hsin you know upfront „okay, gotta pull her support next phase“.

hsin coming out with neither mode already established is just…sigh.

like. „here is a new unit. oh and you REALLY need her signature. will she be any good? dunno. will her team be up and running 2026 or 2027 or maybe never? dunno. just buy now and hope for later“

DaMarkiM

LUA and predictive logic are the answer.

there is no way to adjust tickrate. and it would screw up physics (even more) if you could. plus: the game needs to be able to actually run all physics and logic calculations in that tick. something it already struggles with when using more complex vessels or logic

DaMarkiM

tbf ill maintain that the way they designed and released her to be so dependent on both her signature and a specific other 5* sucks. characters always perform best in their signature team, but the fact eRover sucks so hard at supporting her is just sad.

we already have dual modes with most new characters nowadays. it cant be so hard to make sure at least one mode has proper supports at release.

all they really needed to do was give eRover a proper way to create eRage in their last chain sequence or give them a free sword to do that…

DaMarkiM

just a heads up:

if you want to have your degree acknowledged in germany you might be required to do additional training here and you have to do a language exam of a fairly high level (B2).

so you would need to put in some serious study time and get practice actually speaking the language.

its also worth mentioning that the political climate in germany is kinda uncertain right now, especially in regards to foreigners. right wing parties have been successful at elections for the first time and depending on how things progress the legal landscapes and barriers for immigration might significantly change.

cost of living is also at an all time high right now in germany. and depending on where you end up in the country you might find it challenging to afford that unless you find a good position pretty quickly.

not saying you shouldnt try, but its important to appreciate the potential risk of investing a lot of time and effort for an uncertain result.

as your fears are cocnerned: i personally know people int eh healthcare sector that had similar issues with blood and certain procedures. they are doing just fine now since the constant exposure just kinda numbed them to the feeling. but thats different for each person. so you wont find anyone that is capable of telling you how things will turn out for you.

question is how much you really burn for the profession and what your runway is in terms of financial support from your family or savings to give it a try with the option of maybe switching tracks later.

DaMarkiM

well, everything else aside id like to see the absolute beatdown cap would hand out to Kai Leng.

that alone would be worth the price of entry.

dude is at best the budget version of a budget version of the winter soldier.

DaMarkiM

true.

i read "survive" as "make it to the end of the story alive so they can activate the crucible".

DaMarkiM

oh wow, good thing i find out by randomly scrolling through reddit.

DaMarkiM

there are many types of scams.

in regards to star citizen i understand scam to mean deliberately drawing out development to keep the funding cycle going. unless they break their promises a full release of the game basically kills the pledge store. which is their cash cow.

we can disagree on whether this is whats actually happening.

but if it was then that would very definitely qualify as a scam.

DaMarkiM

no.

for the simple reason that no one should be able to survive the events of the trilogy.

from a meta-perspective its plot convenience of course. but in universe shepard is just precisely the right person to somehow thread the needle and take the right path at every fork in the road.

be in the right place at the eight time with the right mindset.

steve rogers with the right training and implants and knowledge would probably be better than shepard in a lot of ways. stronger. faster. more inspiring as a leader. but he would still fail. because these are all predictable qualities that the reapers account for.

shepard has that little unquantifiable bit that cant be measured, put into words, yet somehow is the grain of sand that tips the scales at just the right time. shepard is essentially the same archetype as master chief. they are excellent and one of the best, yea. but thats not what makes them succeed in the end.

DaMarkiM

weak.

basically character design, environmental design, music and voice acting are hard carrying while everything else is slacking.

Chinese gacha themes are overused in general and in this game in particular. Weak villain. Weak story. Constant reuse of plot hooks and themes. horrible pacing. wasting time while at the same time failing to properly set up the climax of the arc. Tired old fractsidus plot armor bs. Uninspired minigames. Lack of exploration. Overly realistic assets that clash with the characters. The worst QA issues we have seen in a while. Experimental storytelling that never amounts to anything.

Even for a filler region its just aggressively mid. black shores and honami did more in one patch than xuanfang did in three.

DaMarkiM

i mean…there are ways to denote non-binary/neuter on a normally gendered words.

issue is that there are many versions, no one can agree which to use, they look ugly, are mostly used in specific contexts and not normal speech/writing and using them tends to start a heated debate more often than not.

Partner_in, Partner*in, Partner:in, etc…

the „stock“ german language has a neutral gender, but you cant retroactively apply it to a gendered word. and modern additions are a shortcut into gender politics.

i can see why a localization team would just generally avoid that landmine. instead you use generic masculine (or more modern) generic feminine phrasing.

DaMarkiM

yea, while there is definitely power creep your characters are viable for a very long time.

we have 1.x and 2.x characters still going strong nowadays. and while i have many gripes with the endgame it kinda is designed in a way that allows older units to contribute.

some considerations: unless we get a cyberpunk 2 collab its likely lucy and rebecca will never be available again. so if you like those characters starting a new account means you wont be able to get them.

ill assume you still have plenty of exploration to farm since you didnt play a whole lot. so you should be able to build out your roster with newer characters as well.

(also i think the event for returning players is still running. so make sure to get a code. plenty of people will be very happy to give you one)

if you just started lahai-roi you basically have the whole of 3.x in front of you. thats a good chunk of content, but less than what you already played through. good thing is that a lot if not most people would agree that you are just starting to get into the best part of wuwas story by far.

its a matter of opinion of course. but its definitely worth seeing.

DaMarkiM

selling off IP wont solve their issue tho.

in fact it could very much make it worse.

the situation regardig the EA buyout is a bit more complex than simply having debt. for once it being in the same order of magnitude as its value isnt some crazy situatio - its quite literally a result of the leveraged buyout.

their own evaluation is precisely where this debt comes from.

on top of that the debt isnt due any time soon. the whole point of this kind of buyout is a longterm repayment plan.

the real issue isnt their buyout debt, but keeping existing shareholders from bailing. and selling off IP, thus destroying the value of the company will do precisely that.

think of it from the perspective of a shareholder. you have bonds in a company worth 20 billion. now that company actively decreases its own value to pay off running costs like debt repayment. your bond value would literally shrink with every IP sale. Loosing you money.

these bondholders jumping ship is where the real problems would start, since that would add debt that actually needs to be repaid asap. THATS when the company dies.

DaMarkiM

i love shorekeeper, but id like to see more original new characters and not a slew of SP rehashes, especially considering shorekeepers kit is still perfectly usable.

like. if you wanna update an old character give them a new sonata effect or add a new mode for them and push a cosmetic skin.

Maybe thats just me tho. Ive always hated gacha character rehashes. people that liked a character enough to pull them and invested in them should not have to re-buy them.

gacha is already bad enough without needing to refresh my subscription to a character.

DaMarkiM

and septimont was walkable?

DaMarkiM

liked the characters.

didnt love the writing.

like. the characters were by far the best part about the region, full period. dont quite put them on the same level as lahai-roi characters or the good rinascita ones. but they are very well designed, voice acted and likeable.

also Leyue. most attractive character in the game. just saying.

if we talk hate the obvious one is muyu.

did not work for me as a character or villain. weakest point of the entire region and sadly one that has been given a lot of screen time and writing focus.

DaMarkiM

i mean - if i ever find a woman like galbrena ill call that a huge win

DaMarkiM

i mean…it wasnt exactly a mindblowing take back then either.

EA has been EA as far back as i remember.

DaMarkiM

there are plenty of real world military units and institutions that are hundreds of years old.

shepards exploits would be studied by military and civilian historians for generations.

and you have to remember that the citadel civilisation itself is incredibly long lasting. spectres existed for 1500ish years. the justicars were around MUCH longer.

N7 would become just another part of this culture.

besides: parts of the training might be adapted over time - but the general idea of the N7 program is fairly universal and would be just as useful in the far future as it is in the current day. a heavy emphasis on survival, the capabilty to conduct solo missions and to make do with limited resources. thats essentially just a tier 1 commando training. i dont see why that would be replaced anytime soon.

its the same for marine or paratrooper units. the technology changes. the fleets/airfleets change. but the general idea is still as valid today as it was during its conception. in fact these units often do not adapt to changes - they are at the forefront of developing these new technologies and testing their viability in the field.

DaMarkiM

nah, 600 years is more than enough.

the reapers dont progress technologically - they pick what the protheans called the extinction terminus based on the technological development of the cycle precisely to ensure they are still dominant. based on the narrative of ME1 that is roughly about when the races start to unravel relay tech.

the time when the reapers attack is basically precisely the time just before technology would develop beyond what the reapers can predict.

all three endings leave the galaxy with reaper technology to study - now without the fear of indoctrination.
