He’s my favorite person in the world. Literally the coolest and nicest dude ever.

Well, this is crazy. How are you installing it, btw? Do you have a developer account? Any other native Switch games running on iOS?

Dacvak

Oh yeah, using the PS5 touchpad would be a really cool way to get some XY modifiers. You could also mess around with the gyroscope/accelerometer.

This is sick. I wrote some similar homebrew software for the Wii way back in the day that reminds me of this!

Already got the TestFlight and am giving it a whirl. I'm sure I'll have more feedback later, but so far, this is great! I'd say one immediate consideration I'd offer is the ability to modify entire sets of chords using the bumper and trigger buttons, instead of setting those to pitch/mod. (At least the bumpers.) That immediately can quadruple the number of chords you'd have available at your fingertips.

There's actually a Nintendo DS game called "Daigasso Band Bros DX" that handles controller-based instrumentation better than any other game or software I've ever used. I'd highly recommend giving that game a try to see how they handle not only chords, but scales and percussion as well. The game is in Japanese, but there's an English version (only released in Europe) called "Jam with the Band". I particularly love how they have their drum kit mapped, and I would definitely recommend basing your default mapping off of that.

Then that's the other thing, and probably my biggest complaint/suggestion. Playing chords and especially percussion with the analog sticks doesn't feel great, because of the non-tactile nature of analog sticks versus a button-press. I would highly recommend allowing the user to remap chords/drums to the d-pad and face buttons. This is especially critical for drumming, where precision is ultra important.

But for chords, I could definitely see a way that analog sticks make sense, but I think you'd maybe want to try out a different method. For example, it would be nice to be able to essentially "prime" a chord by holding a direction, and then actually play it by pressing the L or R button. This would let you get super precise with the rhythmic accuracy of each chord, as well as let you prime upcoming chords, or even do cool things like pitch bend with the analog stick.

It's sort of what you're already doing by altering the voicing with the face buttons, except that's harder to execute, since you need your thumbs for both tasks. By using your index finger to execute the actual chords, you now free up your thumbs to have WAY more control in what you're playing, allowing for chord selection, different voicings, and real-time modification. And if you wanted to use the L&R triggers instead/in addition to the bumpers, you could then add parameters velocity and aftertouch with each press, which would feel great and natural, and offer some true expression.

I've been kind of obsessed with turning controllers into musical instruments, so I've actually been down this rabbit hole a few times. I hope that wasn't too much feedback or suggestions! (I'm sure I'll have more later, though. I've only messed around with this for about five minutes so far lol.)

What volume knob did you buy? And how did you mount it and wire it up?

Dacvak

What sort of switch did you add? And how do you like the speakers you used?

Dacvak

Same. Also orange.

Also got an SMK-37 Elite. Can't stop the M-VAVE train!

Dacvak

Ay what are those little added knobs you have on your FM-1? Did you 3D print those? Can I get the file?

Dacvak

This is gonna elevate the SMK-37 SO much. I can't wait until mine finally arrives!

Dacvak

How do you actually load them in? I assumed I would use "Import" in the web editor, but that won't actually let me select any .syx files.

Nevermind! I found it. You select the FM track, and then you can import it using a button near the bottom of the screen.

Dacvak

My Swing value starts at 50% and goes up to 75%, instead of starting at 0% and going to 100%. Does anyone else’s do that?

Dacvak

Where are you getting the DX7 patches? I can try on my end.

Dacvak

Dammit, I was just about to go to bed! Welp, looks like I’m staying up tonight! 🤘

Dacvak

Thanks for listing all of these! It’s been crazy trying to keep up with them all.

Dacvak

This would be perfect if it had USB-C 😩

Dacvak

Has anyone been able to confirm if any games are working with VRR yet? It doesn’t seem like it’s enabled for all games by default, so it might be a per-game opt-in sort of thing for devs.

Dacvak

Been waiting for them to open. Hope it’s soon!

Dacvak

How do you know he found all that tech from a temu container?

Dacvak

That’s so sick

I just got back from Japan, and I found even the limited amount of Japanese I knew extremely helpful. I definitely agree that in tourist areas, you don't need to know any Japanese. But I also feel like it was always appreciated when I at least attempted to speak in Japanese initially.

I also went down to Kasukabe and Nagasaki, and there were very few English speakers there, so it was definitely helpful while I was there.

Dacvak

You're the first one to notice!

Hey Kane. What’s your favorite guilty pleasure meal?
