Why do Gemini models get so much praise? I feel like I’m going insane

LiveContainers should work in theory, it likely needs to be signed with the "increased memory limit" entitlement (Google is your friend), and definitely needs to run with a JIT launcher like StikDebug.

I haven't actually tried out either Playport or Madeira though, or even LiveContainers. I mainly use MeloNX play Switch games like Burnout Paradise and Animal Well on the go.

The free developer account only lets you have up to 3 sideloaded apps installed at any given time, out of which one is typically AltStore/SideStore, so you're really left with only two spots.

On top of that every sideloaded app including AltStore/SideStore needs a (free) registration to be installed and able to run.

You can only have up to 10 active registrations at a time. These registrations always last exactly 7 days, and they do not get deleted if you uninstall the app. This means that you are only allowed to try out up to 9 different apps on your phone each day (and potentially a whole week!), even if it's only to try them for a few seconds before deleting.

You must renew the registration to continue to be able to run an app. You don't have to wait the full 7 days, you can renew at any time, but each renewal adds one more active registration to the 10 active registration quota, the previous registration must be waited out before releasing their spot in the quota.

You used to need to run a server on your computer for your phone to renew apps, thankfully they relatively recently made this possible to do without an external computer, which was annoying.

They did NOT make this easy.

It’s a very big hoop for sure, but not at all the only one. You have to do the pairing file dance every time you update iOS, you have to turn on airplane mode before turning JIT on if you’re not on WiFi, and sometimes stuff just… refuses to work until you try a couple times more.

But when it does work, it’s awesome.

As someone who jumped through the hoops: it’s soooo worth it. But I already had a paid Apple developer account so there’s was a lot less friction.

Unfortunately for your point, GTAV really does have a huge amount of environmental storytelling, and lots of little details spread everywhere, including unsolved mysteries. The gale really does reward exploring at random, just not with “cinematic action”.

I think your point applies more so to GTA IV and all the GTA games before it.

People call anything everything. Even machine code is “interpreted” once you consider that machine code can be interpreted into different microcode instructions by different processors.

Everything is interpreted and everything is compiled. The more interesting question is what the layers between source code and machine code look like, and when are they involved.

Lately my 16-inch M4 Pro MacBook will last anywhere from 4 to 18 hours on a single charge, and there’s just no way for me to tell which one it will be. Really happy about its performance though.

I think they are talking about warning squiggles, which are a good indicator to a programmer that lines are about to shuffle around once you save/format.

Am I going crazy here? The entire point of TypeScript is to have the system prove that the program is correct before it runs (given the types you define and how they interact). Just like compilers for C and Rust would! If you want runtime checking you can use stuff like Zod (etc) but you are explicitly opting into a runtime performance tradeoff, and most importantly, one that already has mature interoperability and support in the ecosystem (thanks to Standard Schema).

Look at lib.rs, this is for testing only. The readme clearly states that ffmpeg is only used as a black-box testing oracle (in other words, used to compare results and confirm correctness). Everything exposed by lib.rs for actual decoding and encoding is truly made from scratch.

There was nothing “smart” about these devices to begin with. Whether tech is “smart” or “dumb” shouldn’t be whether there’s a touchscreen or not. If you sit down and learn about the engineering that goes behind what you call certain “dumb” technologies, you would call it “smart” too.

Why did they do this?

Way too many people failing at reading comprehension, or are too biased against criticism for Dioxus or Rust projects to want to understand. OP is pointing out that whether this particular codebase builds or not changes between dev build and release build.

Whether Dioxus is production-ready or not I don't know, but I imagine (read: in my opinion) the stuff Dioxus is doing behind the scenes must be very complex if it managed to make `cargo build` reach different outcomes depending on build mode.

The way some of you are downvoting legitimate explanations of the post is also a bad look.

Also, the bug seems to be (or could be related to) https://github.com/DioxusLabs/dioxus/issues/3737, which has been open since Feb 2025. Make of that what you will.

This might ruffle feathers, but first The Last of Us. The entire first part of the game can be a bit boring, especially when they give you a “puzzle” that is not really a puzzle, you’re just looking for a ladder/plank and have to wait excruciatingly for animations to complete while holding the controller doing nothing. Things pick up after the first season, but it sticks out like a sore thumb when replaying the game.

Well, fun fact, Windows has supported forward slashes ever since DOS 2.0 back in 1983, and Microsoft has published the source code for it. As a matter of fact, it was already implemented to use forward slashes, but late in development IBM kindly requested that they don't use forward slashes, as it would break lots of DOS 1.0 programs that expect backward slashes. As a compromise, DOS 2.0 supported both, and that lineage has carried all the way to the Windows of today.

Surely the marketing team for the large global semiconductor company would think of proofreading a little bit with someone from engineering…

Crazy how nostalgia works. I had been playing Minecraft on PC two years before the console editions came out. I hated the UI on console because it felt like the Java devs described the Java UI to console devs who had never seen the Java UI, and then asked them to recreate it.

And now that bedrock replaced legacy console edition, I feel like that UI was endearing, looking back.

Is it me or is this article a bit sloppily written?

> The reason Rust is safer is that it implements Resource acquisition is initialization (RAII)

>As a result, Rust handles resource management and does not need a garbage collector to manage memory allocations, unlike C++, another language that implements RAII but still requires developers to manage memory themselves.

So it is safer than C++ because it has RAII, though C++ also has RAII, but C++ requires devs to manage memory… except so does Rust? (since it’s all RAII “smart pointers” and containers either way)

The article could’ve just mentioned that the Rust compiler enforces a more extensive, stricter set of rules at compile-time, and that would’ve been enough.

I’ve pointed Fable 5 and Opus 4.8 at the datasheets for the ADXL362 and the CC1101 respectively and got entirely useful drivers out of it. Strictly for personal hobby projects of course that are not safety critical, it’s wonderful.

As someone who was born and spent majority of my life in Venezuela, that pain is all too relatable. Try hitting up electronic stores on WhatsApp… also, Digikey and Mouser might still be able to ship to wherever you are.

To be fair, Doug Ford DID heavily slash the budget for the emergency forest firefighting fund, multiple times. I think the general consensus is that that was a terrible idea.
