They might see it, but I suspect that they conjure up a fiction to rationalize it as something other than what it is.

To feel embarrassed one must possess principles, honour, a conscience, all the virtues you imagine to be normal. I think there are many people who to avoid shame will somehow in their mind find a way to justify themselves by ascribing the guilt onto something or somebody else. It's more comfortable for them to do that.

The worst thing is that they will manage to force themselves to believe that they are morally correct.

If that isn't then maybe nothing will be.

It sends the message out to those such inclined that they can now go out and do this kind of thing and get away with it consequence free.
