GenderGP has some benefits and drawbacks separately to this, but in terms of being butch presenting i never had a single issue with them and didn't have to lie. they will ask questions sort of related though. for example i had a video chat and had like stubble, no makeup, wearing nothing girly, and they didn't say a thing about it. not necessarily appearance related but they asked my interests as a kid and i said climbing trees i guess, didn't have to pretend to love dresses and dolls or anything she just noted it down and we moved on. also i was asked who i was sexually attracted to, i said women and we moved on.

i don't think any of this is necessarily to enforce gender stereotypes, and they say it isn't to gatekeep, they call it and Information Gathering Session, i think it's more to ensure informed consent because that's the model they use. an informed consent model is what she'll probably want to be looking for.

i think in general you would expect private doctors to be better about this than the NHS currently is, but i'm not certain they all are. i have heard that Gender Care is much more similar to the NHS model in that i think they prefer the old "real life experience" requirement which is where you tend to get more of the gender policing i think, but i've never used them and they may have changed so i cannot be sure how they'd be now.

reading other people's experiences so you know what to expect can really help with the anxiety imo so she might wanna check r/transgenderUK or similar and either ask or look for recent posts.

think you’re underestimating how well you can brake “with no brakes” with a bit of practice. i ride with a front brake but when cars pull out and i have to brake suddenly my legs generally instinctively stopped the bike long before i have to think about using the front. basically i use the front to get down hills easily, more than for emergencies.

it's a nice idea but i find the idea that one can separate "news" from "comment" to be kinda specious tbh. the choice of what to report and how to frame it is itself just as subject to bias as anything else and will reflect the interest of whoever is in control of it.
