My biggest * whenever talking about security is that no system is ever 100% and anyone that says otherwise is lying to you. It's like a lock on your door, can someone still break in? Yes. But if you have a lock on your door and your neighbor has a wide open door, which one do you think thieves are going to go to first? A majority of "Hackers" are just opportunistic scammers with an overinflated ego about what they actually do.

As with every post here, people just say IT as a blanket statement. Are you a Sys Admin? Database Engineer? Network Administrator? Software Engineer? Helpdesk? Call Center product support?

$20-$26 for Helpdesk is low, but normal for entry level. The no benefits is odd. 40h a week should qualify you for PTO and Health Insurance no matter where you go.

HCOL areas don't command better pay, based on personal experience. There's a race to the bottom with wages in the tech sector these days. With all the layoffs, the hiring market is saturated especially when most of the jobs then get flooded with H1B applicants.

Having a job and then searching makes you more attractive for some reason. I would look at glassdoor for your area and compare companies so you know what to expect.

I have an AS in Computer Information Tech, A+, N+, CCNA, and 18 years experience ranging from Product Support to General IT. Currently a Sys Engineer on a promotion track to Manager. I make $120k with full benefits in a HCOL area.

If you haven't heard the radio dramas, do yourself a favor. They're fully voice acted and you even get Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels in their roles. There are a few added scenes here and there that really flesh out the story. You can kinda see why Mark started down the voice over path, his performance is elevated.
