Happened in HSR patch cycle 3.x. cyrene was 3.7, clear main push, 3.8 was sort of a recharge patch with miscelaneous story

The way I see it, they were picked (this is obviously not the case but still) because they are the perfect mix of "popular" and "can meaningfully struggle"

Realistically how do you make almost anyone post 2.0 HSR struggle? Aventurine can level a city, Acheron summons black holes, Firefly allegedly blew up a star or was involved in the events leading to that. Wolfie now rewrites reality

There is simply no real way to make HSR characters struggle meaningfully or not make them trivialize anything in the Zzz verse, while a ZZZ character being inherently underpowered can be solved simply by an Aeon's gaze

Trails has always had a very, very, poor approach to difficulty. In every last one of their games, difficulty is simply a multiplier on enemy and allied stats.

On an even playing field (you aren't horribly underleveled, you keep up with equipment and all) some fights will just have the enemy moving 5 times in a row or using super powerful moves twice in a row and you are outta luck

The first thing you need to do on new regions is vibe

I find that a lot of the stuff the series introduces either trivializes the game (in CS2 you could make Fie essentially immortal) or is given up on halfway through the game (most Trails introduce ailments, but they are an afterthought for 90% of tje game except that one random side quest boss that ks extremely weak to one specific one ailment so they can go wink wink it works)
