Eevee is absolutely key to my team (evolved to Glaceon but Umbreon would have been better). Gets access to helping hand, beam moves, and healing/status clear. pmdx really takes it up a level cause of the moves it can learn.

pmd is great for that, you can basically make any unevolved pokemon good, and what makes a pokemon good tends to be based more on what moves it learns than anything else
