DoogleAss

I only have a couple systems that got flagged in their notification to my org but none of them currently have firmware updates for the drives that are installed. Would have to go look to get exact model #s but in any case seeing the same as you

DoogleAss

yes they both share the same core and binaries but they are utilized for completely dif purposes.. unless one gets a complete clean install of IoT it’s gonna be locked down and again licensing is an obvious issue. The mods point was you aren’t acquiring this legitimately

But yes I was utilizing the experience I had with it after an OEM had already turned into Fort Knox because again you can’t just go download it from MS. So you either get it that way or from an unapproved location which for obvious reasons shouldn’t even be an option

To be clear I’m saying IoT is treated as an embedded OS hence why it’s impossible to get a legit key unless you are an OEM of some kind.. Enterprise LTSC is in a similar boat but because it was meant for normal business workstations it’s a bit easier to acquire “legitimately”.. the quote are again because it wasn’t meant for home users

DoogleAss

You all need some reading comprehension skills.. they specifically called out LTSC “IoT” which is a different OS version/build Enterprise LTSC. Neither are for consumer so yes most likely you will be pirating it.. especially IoT hence why the mods did what they did. I fail to see how them stating you can talk about it but can’t promote its use as contradictory

Also trust me you don’t want to use LTSC IoT at home even if you could get your hand on a legit copy as you likely won’t find one that hasn’t been bastardized already. you are getting all bent out of shape over an OS no one should be utilizing outside of its specific use case anyways.. again specifically calling out LTSC IoT version

DoogleAss

Not really that amazing.. depends on the training data which we all know OpenAI used Reddit at least in part for. Also copilot is just a ChatGPT model so them saying the same is not crazy coincidence

It’s how stuff works.. I get the humor you are trying at but it’s not really that funny when the humor comes from a lack of understanding

DoogleAss

I see being a troll is how you got the 1% commenter huh?

I don’t know what fantasy you have your head in but you have literally been arguing with yourself while simultaneously thinking your on some high horse lol

Whatever bro have fun with your 15 yr old hardware if that what you want to do.. you act like I ever had any skin this game I simply made a statement you then chose to go on some misguided crusade. You should really go look at most post history since most of the people in this sub have accused me of actually being a MS fan boy.. which I’m not. You are barking up the wrong tree my guy but do you

Another pro tip.. your conversation skills could use some work

DoogleAss

Ok I’m the stupid one when you assume you know what another’s experience is.. you can believe whatever you want my guy but trust me If I could make up a career that wouldn’t be it lol

Second I am not even speaking directly to OP at any point I simply said a sane person wouldn’t expect that.. are you aware of the sub you’re in.. have you read majority of the posts here. I’m gonna guess those saying it doesn’t run well far outweighs those that do

Third ofc it comes down to how someone uses the damn thing if you just want to browse the internet sure it will be fine if you want to do that same thing with 10 Google Chrome tabs open good luck

Like what are we even discussing here brother.. just because you repeat something over and over doesn’t make it true. Also pro tip don’t resort to calling someone you are discussing something with stupid that isn’t a sound way to get any point across

DoogleAss

So it doesn’t prove that OP did in fact install the OS on the hardware they are describing?

I fell like you need to read a bit closer and stop putting words/arguments into other people’s mouths

I am curious tho.. did someone drop you on your head when you were young or something? You are interacting with me as if you know me or we have some history.. Is that how you normally interact with folks you have never met?

Also I am not making any statements based on the post beyond what we can all see by looking at the picture. My statement about running a modern windows OS on 15 yr old hardware comes from personal experience. Ya know the kind where I have spent the last 20+ years as either a sysadmin or network engineer. Would you like to compare who has put hands on more systems? /s but serious you are being obtuse for no reason my guy

DoogleAss

First off what’s this “keep” business I made one comment.

Second I don’t care if they are remote or not my statement and point still stands do you live in Ohio and network with sysadmins here? Not about what I think when I talk people.. ya know that reality you speak of

Anyways have a good one

DoogleAss

lol yea I’m sure it 100% accurate.. why don’t you try just running whatever commands it’s spits out at you with no knowledge of what they do and see how that works out for ya

Yes the average person can use Linux provided someone else installed it for them and they never run into any issues.. what needs to be realized here it take the least technical person you know and then assume the average users is at least 50% less knowledgeable than that and tell me if having them switch to Linux sounds like a good idea

People in these forums need to go work with some real users and they would change their tune real fast

DoogleAss

Yea COL plays a big roles in this my guy those numbers you listed certainly do not apply to the entire US in fact I would argue that isn’t true for the majority of the country

Come to Ohio and do a survey on how many sysadmins there are and how many of them are making 115k let alone 165 lol

DoogleAss

Well yea they are a for profit company and you as a consumer have never been their cash cow corporate is. Why didn’t people wonder when they started giving away free upgrades to the new OS like candy starting with 10. That was when it turned into a live service OS basically or started to anyways

Having said that you made many statements that are not true.. you can control any of those things you mentioned with PRO.. how do I know because I do it across roughly 1000 computers at my current job

You also do not need bypassnro on windows pro it gives you an option to make a local account in the sign-in options menu that is clearly on one of the provided screenshots

Also I realize the sub I’m in but why is it always just switch to Linux it’s the silver bullet despite it having plenty of its own issue for an average user along with kernel level exploits supply chain attacks ya know the same everyone deals with.. in other words grass isn’t magically greener on the other side unless you are just trying to stick one to the man I guess.. the average consumer doesn’t even know what linux is lol

DoogleAss

I believe their point was clearly you CAN install it as OPs picture proves that

Any sane person would not expect hardware from ~15 yrs ago to run a modern windows OS optimally unless we are talking IoT version or something

DoogleAss

So much of this is disingenuous

Your comparison by your own words is so far from a 1:1 it’s not even funny. You couldn’t even name what all was actually running on each device with certainty

Second was your Linux install running an AV because windows was

I’m not saying windows doesn’t perform worse out of box compared to a vanilla Linux install but one needs to understand why. Some of it is optimization and bloat.. some of it is how the OSs natively work ie. one ships with built in security suite that does live file scanning and one does not

Third Microsoft didn’t add Norton, McAfee, or any other 3rd party app to windows XP the OEM you bought it from did.. a retail version didn’t contain any of that

There are plenty of reasons to hate MS but we should at least keep it to both reasonable and factual information

DoogleAss

I agree hosting your own mail is not the way in today’s landscape and that’s if you can even get mail to flow properly which is damn near impossible on a home connection

My point wasn’t simply host your own stuff, although I do subscribe to that outside of email, it was expect that anything you don’t own aka anything hosted outside your domain is not really yours anymore in terms of control anyways and it will certainly be handed over with enough pressure

Alternatively don’t do anything to get on the govt radar and you will also be fine lol

DoogleAss

Yes the workaround is contact your IT department.. they control the tenant and thus they can resolve this issue

This doesn’t by any means guarantee your issue has anything to do with MS and their programming. This could be something in your tenant or account setup

In other words stop wasting your time on Reddit and talk to the folks who can actually fix your issue

DoogleAss

Well you see the internet is just someone else’s computer and unless your email ends with a TLD you respectfully don’t own shit

Even if you own the TLD and use their service for mail your still using “their service” meaning you don’t control it. so yea people are going to tell you to comply.. or don’t and see where that gets you

As another suggested if this is a hill to die on for you then comply and migrate your stuff to something you actually “own” good luck with hosting your own email though. To the suggestions of use this obscure service it’s great.. I suggest you circle back to paragraph two above

DoogleAss

This sentiment is insane.. here is the rule of thumb if you don’t own the infrastructure you don’t own the data I don’t care if it’s google or proton. Boggles the mind how anyone see this any differently

In other words don’t do shit on these services you don’t want anyone to see or be able to scrape plain and simple

This whole go here they won’t give it up.. lol yea sure

DoogleAss

Uhh no I never said data deletes itself.. the fact you put words such as those in my mouth proves my point your just looking for someone or something else to blame or go on about

There are so many more details that you would have to share to determine what actually happened.. was this a custom built PC or an OEM you purchased say a dif version of windows for hence the retail key. We don’t know because you simply said thing make me mad.. must be Microsoft’s fault

Further more don’t patronize me keeping track of a windows key is trivial you had to enter it when you first activated it so put in a damn drawer or something doesn’t take rocket science to be organized my guy.. but yes I managed thousands of PC and servers so keeping track of things like this or bitlocker keys etc is pretty important. Users acting like they have it hard.. try managing anything at scale. if having to renter a key regardless of reason is that big of a deal maybe don’t use a licensed OS? I mean everyone here says Linux can do anything without seemingly any issues ever I guess so why not switch

Says the guy choosing to “waste” their time responding.. and I’m the troll huh?

DoogleAss

Well OP never said it hung the “whole ui” they said it stalled the window

Windows will only do this when said explorer window is trying to access the faulty media. Open another and magically you can navigate just fine.. that doesn’t seem to unreasonable

This is also why this doesn’t happen until you invoke reads on said media/drive with again a explorer windows or disk management UI for example

DoogleAss

I don’t even know the context here, but Pro Tip: If you actually are the smartest person in the room (or in this case the sub), you never have to say it out loud.

DoogleAss

Dang, where’s my paycheck then?

DoogleAss

Pointing out user error isn’t defending Microsoft, it’s basic logic. Go look at my comment history, I’m not shilling for anyone.

OP provided zero context, just "MS lost my key." For all we know, they swapped hardware or tried changing OS editions, which are things that always trigger reactivation. And when they finally found their key card and re-entered it, it activated fine. That’s literally how Windows licensing has worked for decades.

If OP kept track of something they paid hard-earned money for, they would have fixed it in 10 seconds instead of typing out a rant. It’s like losing the radio code in your glove box after your car battery dies, then blaming Ford when you can't turn the radio back on.

DoogleAss

How exactly is this a direct MS issue.. MS didn’t one day decide Johnny shouldn’t have his windows key on his PC anymore.. does it happen yes but for a reason

For example you make major hardware changes such as a motherboard etc.. so windows assumes it’s a new PC

As another pointed out this is stored on your board which can get lost from time to time.. again not directly a MS issue

Without more info beyond the rant who could say for sure but the craziest part is the key you should have kept in a known safe place (luckily you found it) worked when needed no?

Did you get unconvinced by the PC.. slightly. Did you lose 3 hrs because of yourself.. definitely
