I hope it's more of a: System/Character Config settings UX/UI is trash, meme.

Even then, the Infinity combo thing is never really relevant. It doesn't help that they called the 4 aspect thingies names I can't even remember at level 30.
Red, Green, Blue, Yellow. Elgort? Drumpus? Bingus?

Even at the top level - System Configuration vs. Character Configuration. Each of them have a lot of settings that theoretically should be under the other.

It's pretty faithful! I enjoyed both the book and the movie. It's an indie movie that did the book justice as far as it was monetarily and narratively feasible to do so within the runtime lol.
Given the contents of the story, though, the book is definitely my preferred source as the imagination is more capable of giving shape to the eccentricities of the plot lol.

Exactly. "We have exactly 4 hours in the studio before tour starts in our beat up van we have to get shit right" has a much different energy than "whatever, the producer will wiggle with it."
Legends from yesteryear have story, after story, after story about about accidents, coincidences, and mistakes under pressure that have led to brilliant art. Frustration, anger, sadness, and even joy & love can only come from experiencing friction. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours is one the greatest albums of all time and it was a shitshow.
Without friction or pressure, art slips through one ear and out the other without resonating.

When Dawntrail came out, Crystal Tower was bugged on the first week so when Amon was casting Final Curtain - or whatever it's called - the ice wouldn't come down to hide behind. It would cause an instant wipe lol. Everybody had to lock in for "Amon Savage" to kill him before the cast bar completed.
I remember it was during Dawntrail because a lot of Vipers were having trouble meeting the DPS check. I had to remind them that Red = Rear Positional and Green = Flank positional and it wasn't so bad then.
Dorp
Yeah, I also think the revisions to the lighting and graphics systems along with enhancement of weapon/armor models through Dawntrail required "all hands on deck" to accomplish all of them. So theoretically, given the announcements as you said it's reasonable to conclude that a proceeding priority would be on player character identity

Criminals aren't donning Looney Tunes Bugs Bunny drag to "sneak" into a public restroom to assault people.
They're lurking in places of authority and "normalcy" like clergy, politics, family, etc. to hide their crimes amongst power dynamics.

Windows 7 was fine in my opinion, but it had some driver issues that foreshadowed Vista's shitfire.

A thought that occurred to me recently is that in 2026+, advertisers should pay us directly for our time and attention if they want it so bad. The digital infrastructure is there in whatever online payment systems they want to use.
Instead of laundering their attention-theft through cable companies, streamers, operating services, social media sites et al., give money to me and I'll pay attention and maybe buy your product if you make a compelling case.
This whole "paying big companies to steal my time and attention" isn't cutting it for me anymore.

Spotify is ass. With that money, it makes more sense to buy every song you ever want to listen to at lossless quality than deal with spotify's muddled bitrates.

The current codes are solely in the hands of an 80 year old dementia-addled man with a penchant for the dramatic and bombastic and no care about what or who - if anything - he leaves behind in the wake of destruction.
People don't like to think about it, but nuclear annihilation is hanging by a thread at the moment.
"Oh, he would never do that." What, just like everything else he has done but would "never do?" lol
Dorp
A lot of people in this thread can be summed up with: "you're not wrong, you're just an asshole."
A lot of people are just unpleasant to be around, even if they are "logical." I greatly dislike the type of person who can't let things go because they just NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED to be the most correct. The type of personality "Um, Actually" built a game show out of.
To them: hey, just because you're "right" doesn't make you not annoying.

An absolute statement like this seems to imply that there cannot be anybody who is chill about astrology, but statistically, that's probably not the case.
People notice assholes being assholes. When those assholes believe in astrology, you might say astrology is for assholes. But the thing about chill people is that they're not as memorable as assholes. Assholes are annoying - things that annoy us stick to our memory more easily. It's very easy to conflate assholishness with astrology and vice versa, but how often do you seek to disprove your belief in that? Statistically, there has to be chill astrological people right? There may even be people you know or like that's into it. Oh if they are they're just some of the "good ones"
Assholes are going to asshole regardless of their justifications. There are weed smokers who evangelicize about how weed is a lifechanging substance and couldn't possibly cause any harm. Nofap dudes who claim abstaining from jerking off gives you super powers. Whiskey purists against ice cubes. You name it. Any hobby will judgemental assholes.

So is making a hasty generalization that boils down an entire hobby of thousands and thousands of individual participants with wildly varying personalities. But plenty of people have no problem doing that for whatever reason.
Maybe you can't count how many times you personally heard it. But would you say it's closer to 10 or 10,000? Or how many times you read it on social media where 90% of the people on it are lurkers instead of posters? How many people have you not heard talk about it that are totally normal about it? The locus of experience of a given sociocultural hobby isn't centered on you and what you've heard. If it was, you'd be awfully busy with fielding questions from everybody asking your opinions on various things.
Videogaming is pretty harmful because I can't count how many times I heard some variation of slurs. Dungeons and Dragons is pretty harmful because I can't count how many times I've heard some variation of toxic DMs and/or players starting conflicts. I can do that with anything. I can use "what I've heard" to frame anything as pretty harmful.
Maybe it's easier to just...chill? About some things at least?
Dorp
but there is a stage of devotion where it becomes harmful
That's every hobby, belief system, habit, and behavior. Social media use, video gaming, toxic relationships fandoms and standoms, parasocial attachments, etc. It's not intrinsic to the lifestyle itself - anything can become annoying and harmful when taken to the extreme. There are mfs out there who are annoying about abstinence and how it grants superpowers or whatever. Self-righteous overconfidence isn't constrained to this realm.
As someone who doesn't believe in it, astrology and tarot are treated as kooky because of their associations with magic and such. But on a macro scale, the stock market is propped up on a bunch of charts and data cooked to justify feelings and faith in investments and returns. Obviously there is insider trading going on at multiple levels - but it all boils down to expectations. Just look at the AI flowchart of companies circlejerking their stocks up and up and up with each other based on nebulous, infeasible returns
But that is acceptable because of its proximity to capital. Even though it is a million percent more consequential and harmful writ large - it's "normal." Also, astrology and tarot are significantly more "feminine" coded hobbies compared to gambling and stock market predictions - I wonder if that has any bearing on why those are so consistently ridiculed and held under a microscope of "concern" compared to the others?
Dorp
People are filled with inconsistencies. It's inevitable. If I was "logically consistent" with my preference of chocolate ice cream over vanilla, I would have to, objectively, always choose to eat chocolate ice cream else I may seem like a liar. But this obviously neglects a lot of variables to situations, options, moods, etc.
We draw subjective lines all the time. We may theoretically believe that recycling and composting is a more ideal way of discarding trash, but how many of us actually 100% adheres to sorting the stuff?
It's just not sustainable to be constantly policing these lines for ourselves. There has to be nuance. Someone who criticizes another for terrifying people with the thread of eternal torture of hell can have "lucky socks" or other superstitions and not be hypocritical.
Equating the two beliefs is itself a fallacy of false equivalency in terms of intent and effect. There are degrees of severity - some things deserve an eye roll, others deserve call outs and scorn. The inability to differentiate the two is endemic to social media brain that demands intellectual and moral perfection from everybody all the time.

Only y'allternative-ish track I can think of was "Everything We Need" but that was 5 years ago on "You're Welcome" and they course-corrected with Big Ole Album v. 1 which slapped and was definitely not y'allternative - so I don't know what the original poster means either.

As we speak he's looking at the over/under for himself going on Dancing with the Stars
It could ruin their chances of becoming FOX hosts or Press Secretaries. /s
