When my kids were maybe 7 and 9 or so, we would upon occasion go to the park around dusk. At one point, we saw another kid around their age, and then the three kids made friends and played with a group of teenagers who were also there hanging out.
Now, our weather permits this, and my kids were a good deal older than yours is now, sure. But don’t limit your thinking to the strictly conventional.
