They also bank on use cases coming to them super early on after getting that patent/demo. They don’t have any use specifically, but some niche market may need just this tech for one reason or another, and didn’t realize it until they saw the demo.

I agree, I love aero shit like this. I also loved the insane bargeboards on F1 cars that people would call ugly monstrosities (though understand why they needed banned, team budgets and all). Seeing the crazy ideas aero departments have is part of what makes motorsport amazing.
