An amphibious assault is a non-starter. We'd be crushed in minutes unless we spent years building an amphibious fleet. That means we need a regional ally who doesn't like India and has something to gain from an invasion. If such a nation existed with a significant boarder with India and a seemingly irrational hatred of Hindus, the only kind of war possible would be one of annihilation.

Even if we didn't ally with them and magically materialized an amphibious fleet capable invading that neighbor would definitely attack. Indians would fear for their lives and assume a genocide was intended. That means this is a war on death ground. The US might be able to initially ally with them then separate once they hold a port city, but I doubt that will be feasible. Indians will assume that it's a ruse and expect betrayal.

A death ground war with India would be long, expensive, and brutal beyond imagination. It would be Gaza literally times 1000. I once heard a story of a Chinese general who lost 100 men for every 1 the Japanese lost in a battle and declared victory because at that rate they will run out of Japanese before china runs out of Chinese. That would be the situation if the U.S. insisted on taking all of India. They might achieve taking and holding a port city in western Indian at best. Punjab is of course no longer Indian, and no longer has any open Hindus living there.

Give the U.S. 10 years to prepare for this war and it could turn out very differently, at least if Indian does not suspect it's the target of the intervening buildup. You'd need to convince Indians that you are somebody they can safely ally with against their ruling class. You'd have to neutralize a hostile neighbor to build that credibility. From there it's divide and conquer in stages.

Actually only 37% of statistics are made up.

I am a software engineer, but all I did here was reference xoreos, and the original KSE, and tell opus 5.5 to make a Mac version of KSE. I made some layout decisions on my own, and a save history was my original idea, but I take no credit for anything other than layout, and the save history. I also was effectively the QA tester.

It looks very nice. Check out kool save editor and please steal my versioning system. All save modification history is listed so you can revert to any point with playtime for each save modification. I have no intent of supporting windows and I think it's a genuine improvement.

kool save editor

You can get Reva's robes with a save editor. On a Mac try kool save editor (which I made). You can try a lot of scenarios without the trouble of mods.

Not physically impossible, it just destroys itself in milliseconds.

The XKCD link is fantastic and I highly recommend the read. The scenario where the wheels keep the plane still from angular momentum and then rolling resistance. They have to accelerate to far, far faster than double the planes speed to maintain equality from the wording in the problem. A realistically this scenario ends in under second with the wheels slipping, then disintegrating. The plane takes off skidding on bare gear-struts. In an idealized scenario, the unlimited-fueled plane holds still due to the angular momentum of its perfect wheels as the perfect belt perpetually rapidly accelerates. Eventually the at least the wheels collapse into black holes.

Yes, and the angular momentum of the wheels while the belt accelerates to a speed where the rolling resistance is enough to counteract the jet engines full thrust. I think that's the only interpretation that maintains the invariance of the problem exactly as stated. The problem is poorly put and intends a different outcome, but technically this is correct. I think this is one of those bell curve problems where the dumb answer is ultimately right.

Could be at first, expect saddle soreness. Once you're used to the bike and have gotten your legs under you that's not a hard day if it's level.

Somalia has a dysfunctional government. Rome had a very functional government. At the opening Somalia trounces the Romans, but Romans were well known for adapting quickly. Somalians are not known for that. My money is on Rome surviving the initial onslaught and obtaining weapons before they are destroyed, but I think this is actually a pretty even fight.

90% of protection training is Gib Laut (Speak). Trust me, if the situation looks sketchy and you tell a shepherd to bark, it's going to be about the most intimidating thing you've ever seen. It will catch on pretty quickly from there if the situation deteriorates. You don't need full police work. A dog that knows when it's okay to bark, and that it's usually not with protective instincts will really do the trick.

So the first 3 years are land shark. It probably won't kill anything on purpose if you're clear that you care about it, but accidents happen. I don't think you'll accidentally end up with dead cats if it's raised with them, but I'd be more careful about the chickens. Get a rooster and you'll probably be okay if it's raised from a pup with them around, otherwise it might kill a hen in a playful accident.

I imagine after the wheels disintegrate the friction of the landing gear increases significantly and the treadmill get's to slow down somewhat. Ultimately it's more of a belt grinder than a treadmill.

Friction + Rotational Inertia, yes. The axel melts, but this is correct.

The wheels have rotational inertia. In physics-hypothetical-land a rapidly accelerating treadmill can hold the plane stationary.

I'm going to give the technically correct answer that everyone misses. If the conveyer belt is going backward however fast the wheels spin forward, the plane by definition does not go forward. So we need to ask if the scenario makes any sense.

The answer is a resounding no!

The plane is accelerated forward by the engines as people correctly point out. The conveyer belt can only meet the scenario as long as the inertia of the wheels increasing rotation + the friction at the axel is equal to the thrust of the engine. The engine generates a lot of thrust. Inertia and friction can only take you so far. The wheel speeds up till it explodes. Given a perfect wheel the axel melts to slag. Given a perfect axel and conveyer belt etc... the wheel and conveyer speed up rapidly till it they generate relativistic effects and the plane is smashed by gravity.

The plane doesn't fly because everything gets gobbled up in a newly formed black hole or something breaks.

"Open the door" mostly because my pup figured out the deadbolt and kept locking me out.

Never tried it. I'd like to though. I tried taking mine with a standard bike attached to the handlebars... that lasted about 30 seconds.
