How to efficiently load a chest from a sushi belt (e.g. waste products train station on fulgora) (self.factorio) [Question]

Oh interesting. I played the demo of it and thought it was fairly mundane, but if there's something unexpected waiting I'll give it another shake!
F0sh
Yeah I had it marked down as a veto due to the art style, but I think I'll get over that to have something to play with my partner!
F0sh
I've heard it compared favourably to Blue Prince in a couple of places. I know basically nothing about it, so haven't clicked your spoilers yet; want to give me an idea of whether I should look at any if I want to go in fairly blind?
F0sh
Ah man, I played Myst as a kid. Could probably still do most of it from memory! At one point I had the special pattern given to you at the end memorised and could speedrun it. I bought Riven on Steam but it always crashed early on.
Thanks!

No and I don't think it exists. But because you're setting requests by circuits, you can enable and disable them based on what planet you're at, which has the same effect - with the exception that you can't specify to only pull from platforms (but I don't really know why you'd want to do that - it prioritises platforms, so you may as well pull directly)

Unfortunately as an older millenial I have no idea how to tiktok. I lied, I'm sorry :(
F0sh
Next time I'll make it a tiktok

Sorry for the necro, but to your second bullet point, this is hinted. It's in one of the drafting strategy magazines. I didn't realise at first (I just looked them up) but my partner noticed and pointed it out to me. It's a bit hidden: in the number of dots above each of the powers
I think it's pretty natural to try drafting permanent rooms outside. And the hint in Her Ladyship's Chamber is pretty direct if you get it after you've discovered the Monk power. Which, because getting to that point is quite difficult, is highly likely.
F0sh
Yikes! that's uggo! I think I'll make another train station before going to that. I'm upgrading everything to rare inserters and double-sided stations (the latter of which means I can't "speed hack" the buffer-chest-inserters so it's not a straightforward upgrade, but probably still worth it) so that helps too
F0sh
I would be interested. I was trying something very similar to this (with a selector combinator) but couldn't get it working properly - it ended up still with mixed things on the belts. I think the issue is that I re-merged these belts. But what I am finding is that if I am only filling a train with, say, two green belts of input, it's actually not too bad to skip this...
F0sh
Hmm I see. That's good to know - For now I think this will not be the easiest solution is it would require changes to all recyclers, but if we tear everything out later it's a good idea.
F0sh
Right, you can get problems if you do this with a mixture of items, right? Because the inventory can fill up and deadlock
F0sh
I am just not at the right computer atm
F0sh
Those items are output directly from recyclers and via splitters, not by inserters pulling from chests. But this does lead to this idea of buffering in chests and then removing full stacks from chests.
F0sh
Hmm OK. I can't check now how much we're consuming, but at my insistence we're doing quality stuff on a separate island so we were trying to use common voiding infrastructure.
F0sh
Neat! So do you take a view on off-site voiding of the rest?
F0sh
true there are other options... but it's all a matter of space/simplicity/elegance... thanks for the advice
F0sh
Thanks, looks interesting - is the idea that it causes the inserter to drop stuff immediately iff the belt has no more of that item?
I guess it's too dependent on exactly what items there are to have a convenient way to work out what throughput those inserters have. I can imagine it working much better for the case where there are predominantly two types of items rather than 12, because in the latter case most of the time you still only pick up one item.
F0sh
If I understand, I don't think this helps, because it's filling those chests that is slow. Filling the train can also be a bit slower due to partial stacks inside the chest, but I don't think it's the main issue.
But do you understand how this would actually speed it up, because I don't - OK, when the inserter picks up the final items of a type the filter will change, and so the inserter has to drop immediately... But I didn't think an inserter would wait for more items in that scenario, because it's a chest rather than a belt? Is that wrong?
F0sh
Just more trains will not help. More stations would help but I'd rather make proper use of the station I have before building more.
Hah, I've been going on about Thief to my partner due to how you discover the story through notes and letters. Never finished the 2014 one. Actually I think I only finished Deadly Shadows, but played most of Metal Age.
