They definitely thought they could because of H1B in US being lottery based.
They also forgot to look at it from the side of the employer, the big tech offices in Canada mostly exist to temporary station those who lost the lottery before laying them off or moving them somewhere else. It's not a good place to do business and Canadian entrepreneurs often leave for the US at the earliest opportunity.

The political class in welfare states is genuinely befuddled by this simple fact of human nature. They just scream betrayal when their own ambitious people leave to go to a place where they are allowed to succeed instead of handing over half their wealth to the government.

1990s, when the horrors of Mao were still in living memory and enough Chinese desparately wanted to escape and leave it all behind.
FalconRelevant
Canada was trying to be opportunistic and do braindrain off the US, however they forgot that any person who is actually ambitious will prefer the US and it's promise of wealth over Canada/EU and their promise of a welfare state.
Then they act surprised when they get leeches.
FalconRelevant
Eh, that was true in the 90s when they were still fleeing. In 2020s the younger generation grew up with more optimized CCP propaganda while also seeing economic growth in the 2000s, it's unlikely that their loyalties will waver from China.

"As an INTJ"
This particular individual preference has nothing to do with MBTI.
FalconRelevant
Lmao yeah. The Spanish neonazi party is led by someone with the family name "Medina".
This, and the fact that Alice Weidel of AfD is in an interracial lesbian marriage never fails to crack me up.
FalconRelevant
Eh, Iron Hands.
FalconRelevant
Hear hear.
Why is one so afraid of tests unless...?
FalconRelevant
Yep! As we know, people carry around a detailed character sheet and will just divulge all information when asked.
FalconRelevant
Small talk tells you absolutely nothing about the person.
FalconRelevant
Then I suppose you just pray for a divine revelation to learn of their abilities, inclinations, and character?
FalconRelevant
In the wealthier landed households, sure. For most people throughout most of history, survival wasn't a guarantee and the wife was expected to contribute more that just cooking/cleaning. It could mean helping out on the farm if her husband was a farmer, or it could mean weaving to provide supplemental income if her husband was a blacksmith.
It's only through the increase of productivity following the industrial revolution that gradually more and more women could afford to not work (with the exception of war), which peaked in the 1950s until high productivity eventually became a baseline and women had to return to the workforce for the same reasons as women in 1700s.

Oh? Did you start off as a physicist before moving to corporate?
FalconRelevant
This is wild to me that you just... stop. Don't you not have some inner drive to climb every mountain until you weep because there is nothing left to conquer?
FalconRelevant
Some people are just leeches...
That said the "50/50 arrangement" does sound suspicious to me. The communist ideal of "from each according to his ability to each according to his need" is stupid for any society at scale, however it's a perfectly implementable for a married couples.
Trying to act like some sort join venture often creates a resentment loop, which gradually deteriorates the relationship until it breas.

Sexuality is inherent.

It is the duty of the universe to adapt to the truth that humanity bestows upon it, else be beaten into submission. No delusion is too big to turn into reality if you have the will to match it.
FalconRelevant
While I can empathize with people who have been burned by their spouses, taking that bitterness and negativity out in public masquerading as "advice" is detrimental to the collective interests of humanity.
Blessed are those who trust, are betrayed, yet choose to trust again.
FalconRelevant
It's unfortunate how much the 1950s is idealized and fetishized, it was a pretty anomalous time in history, not some default that "modernity" destroyed.
FalconRelevant
She actually wants to support me with this new venture I'm taking on that will take ten years to build. Use her legal experience to help protect and grow our empire together instead of working for a law firm
I don't think this is a traditional vs modern thing, or even about gender roles; it's just the logical course of action for a spouse (assuming enough trust) to better allocate time and energy to supporting such a venture instead of insisting on dividing energies for a separate career just because.
FalconRelevant
Probably not, however I'm willing to have a few hundred thousand IVF kids in Africa (and everywhere else, really).
Imagine millions of people around the world, distant yet united under the same paternal heritage! What could they accomplish? Will they serve as the backbone on one united humanity?
FalconRelevant
Do you have a brother or a male cousin? Why not try some wincest and keep the blood pure?
FalconRelevant
Yeah why not. To be a paragon for my ideology of a united humanity, I must not marry someone from the same race.
I'm not East Asian so I can marry an East Asian.
You have no idea what mitochondrial DNA is. For one, it's not your DNA, it belongs to a symbiotic organism that lives in your cells, and us exclusively passed from mother to child.
