In my experience the non-metal armors are almost universally better than their metal counterparts.
They give you various extras in the form of set bonuses unique effects, while metal armors have slightly more armor, but make you slower and provide no other bonuses at all.
- The Root Harnesk in particular makes you Resistant to pierce damage. Resistance halves the damage you take before it is reduced by your armor value, which makes every archer enemy in the game, deathsquitoes, ticks, spear fulings, seekers etc. considerably less dangerous.
The Harnesk also makes you Weak to Fire damage (pretty dangerous vs torch fulings, shamans and gjall), but that can be mitigated with Barley Wine, because Resistance completely overrides Weakness. - Bear Armor gives you extra stamina regen (and more), which is nice once you enter the Swamp and have to deal with being Wet all the time.
This does come at the cost of making you Slightly Weak against physical damage, but that hardly matters if you are confident in your dodging and strafing abilities. - Fenris Armor is a pain to craft and upgrade, but it is also the only armor set that increases your movement speed above the baseline, and makes you Resistant to Fire damage. It is a very strong kiting/exploration set.

The way it works now is that your viking's name has a predetermined maximum upgrade level for specific items, after which they guaranteed to break on the next attempt.
You can exceed this limit by doing more upgrades on a different viking.
Let's say you name yours "tikanderoga", and have a Quality 4 Root Harnesk that you want to "gamble" at the Forge: You will have 1 successful upgrade, and you are guaranteed to break the Harnesk on the 2nd attempt.
There is no indication of this in-game - if you are a fan of wasting massive amounts of time and (limited) resources, you can count the upgrades and learn your viking's limits as you brick your items.
Or you can check the Valheim Save Parser put together by u/Melichorak.

Every weapon has a full progression path and offers different perks you might want to use them for, depending on their stats, perks and most importantly, their light/heavy move sets.
In terms of party composition, just use the weapon(s) you find fun, first and foremost. There are few enemies/scenarios where weapon specific effects make a massive difference, and if it does come to that, you can bring a thrall with that weapon and call it a day.

The point is that you have a retrospective journey to the beginning,
You mean 20 break while one person helms the longship. /s
It is an interesting idea, but forcing everyone, including the people who opt into the one "screw sailing we want portals" setting, to sail back half the world is the exact kind of attitude that Valheim's designers are regularly accused of.

Is there a game in the genre from the past 5-10 years that does not have these settings, and more?
Conan Exiles has native sliders for difficulty (split for damage taken, done, structures), resource gain rate, food spoil rate, experience gain rate, taming time, crafting cost and time, fuel burn time, day-night cycle length, settings for world events etc. on top of some QoL stuff like crafting from nearby chests and item filtering, searchable crafting UI etc.
And that game released more than 7 years ago.

According to the runestones in-game, at least the classical pair of summer and winter (both governed by gods/giants) do occur in Valheim:
This marks the spot where the great drake was first seen by me, Ulf, in the third summer of my life in Valheim. She stopped here to leave a pile of dung holding the bones of deer, boar and the skull of a greydwarf. I will never come near this place again.
and
When we first arrived here, this place was rich and prosperous. But the winters are colder and longer now, and we fear they might soon take over altogether.
Yet, here we have built our homes and here we have grown our roots, so here it is that we shall stay.

There is a runestone in DN that reads:
When we first arrived here, this place was rich and prosperous. But the winters are colder and longer now, and we fear they might soon take over altogether.
Yet, here we have built our homes and here we have grown our roots, so here it is that we shall stay.
From this we can surmise that the DN was not always frozen over, and that seasons canonically occur (or occurred) in Valheim, even if not implemented as a gameplay mechanic.

Step 2: Ooze or Bile Bombs
Why open yourself up to attacks when you can poison and ignite the entire bunch in half the time it takes to swing an axe?

Chaos gods in fantasy, specifically.
Even there they have the rare positive take, depending on who is worshiping them.
Not everyone knows that their end goal is to destroy the world as part of their game, so all they see and hear is that there are "spirits" who will provide them boons and protection for veneration.
And down they go the slippery slope, because those spirits were just aspects of the gods, who will eventually demand more and more.

just makes combat trivial
We can kill enemies through walls/without entering line of sight, break their pathing with terrain and structures, kill them without equipping a weapon (bombs, fires) or delegate fighting to tamed animals.
Weapons hitting harder cannot be the straw that would break the combat camel's back, because that camel has been completely mulched already by other game mechanics.

They should let us up the upgrade chance.

with bugs ALREADY identified by the players (doing the hard part for them)
Identifying defects is generally easy, and does not require specialist knowledge.
This is (part of) why open/closed betas and alphas are useful for devs.
Finding their root cause can be harder, depending on the feature.
Race conditions, faulty code, improper editor setups etc. all cause issues that need to be determined via investigation and tools.
Fixing them in time for release and without breaking more things is hard.
The part that the WoW Retail team has at this point routinely failed to achieve. Given how old the game is and how many features it has jammed in it, I can't imagine them having a great time with the faster releases.

WoW writing isn't great in general for any particular expansion, barring some side content.
But the Worldsoul Saga is shaping up to be on par with Shadowlands, and at this point I just want it to be over.

Le name changed into Wolfgang- is this try to make some weird pun like: "Look guys he is changing into huge wolf and turns his gang as well".....bruh
To be honest, "Le Poilu" was already a punny one if you speak French or know WW1 history.

I am currently trying to get Krom before Yagluth (because I like 2H swords) by raiding infested mines close to the edges of the Mistlands.
Padded Helm (max), Root Harnesk (max), Fenris Legs (r2) is already enough defense that basic Seekers do negligible damage to me with everything but their double-claw Slam attacks.
Bring Barley Wine if you use Root Harnesk, because Gjall will mess you up.

If I upgrade any Hero item to i140 and then get a Myth drop in the same slot, every single hero crest I spent is irrecoverably gone and was wasted.
Drop 20 more Hero crests for the i160 and you end up saving 20 Myth crests, which are far more valuable.
You can also waste crests in exactly the way you described, which is by crafting a weapon and then getting "lucky" on a myth track item that is higher ilvl than a crafted weapon can get to.
Realistically, how many people with access to Myth track items (thus crests) would craft Hero-crested weapons?
How many of those people would craft a Hero-crested weapon before their sources of Myth track items were exhausted for the short term?
But even assuming those people exist, their access to Myth track means that they have access to potentially infinite Hero track items from M+ and up-to-cap Hero crests as well. Which in turn means that they could grind for a Hero track weapon drop, upgrade it to 6/6 for 20 Hero crests, and still save 20 Myth crests, because crafting is not crest-inefficient.
None of this would matter if
None of this matters. It's a video game, and your performance will not be meaningfully impacted by the up to 0.5625 average ilvl that you could lose out on (for a week) in your worst case scenario.
