Pretty much what others here have said maybe time would have benefited them and Star Force itself would have fit perfectly on 3DS with everything it did, 3D battle visuals emphasis on connectivity and multiplayer and social elements, it was ahead of its time in on DS but the devs couldn’t have known about 3DS in 2006.
Conceptually though Star Force has always been odd, possibly the hardest iteration of Mega Man to explain or hook an audience, EM waves are nowhere near as relatable as the internet, and I don’t think many people picked up on the setting being inspired by the DS’ WiFi capabilities, Mega Man’s design having a lot of exposed hair, a visor, and the Buster having a face, it looked like it was doing too much, and lastly the battle system, it looked like Battle Network but with low res 3D and reduced movement. It also doesn’t extend a hand to legacy Mega Man fans by reimagining existing characters like BN did, SF is entirely original aside from having a version of Mega Man as protagonist.
I didn’t play Star Force for years because it wasn’t my beloved BN despite looking like it and as long as I’ve been around online I think many have had the same sentiment only harsher than me.
This is a shame because when I finally did play it in about 2013, I liked it a lot and when revisiting both series’ I’m surprised by how much more consistent I think Star Force is, some of if not Mega Man’s strongest character work, where character progression is regular and development feels like a permanent thing instead of being on/off or non existent like its predecessor or even the X series.
I think BN as a series tends to improve as it goes but there’s something grindy, or padded or you know a but part in all of them roughly maybe except 6, but that is the final game In the series.
It felt like BN would ask you to endure some irritating or annoying design conventions, just to get to the battle system, which itself you have to grind notably for it to really take off.
Star Force does not have this problem it feels like the rest of the game was considered more that time around.
Lastly MMSF’s combat is really fun and imo feels more in line with what I typically expect out of Mega Man, they both actually preserve the core tenants of the franchise in their design, but SF’s closer lean into action and immediacy, in addition to the way folder building works in MMSF making it possible to add whatever new card/weapon you got from a defeated enemy without completely destroying your folder flow or having to change your entire build to supplement it, these things bring it more in line with the other games, BN fans tend to complain about how not BN they are rather than looking at the systems on their own merit or try seeing what they were going for.
They are honestly more Mega Man x Punch Out!! Built on the base of MMBN and I think exploring them that way would make people happier.
It’s one of Mega Man’s very best series’ but it’s so easy to misinterpret it and tbf the comparison and expectations placed on it are invited fundamentally.
It’s unfortunate that I don’t think anything but time could have saved Star Force it was kind of too radical yet too familiar at the time of release for anyone to act rational about and at the height of the IPs over saturation no less.
Happy we got to see it have its day two decades later even if it was fairly short lived due to the announcement of Dual Override not long after.

I think as usual they got a lot of facts wrong and the way the battle was depicted left much to be desired but .EXE and Star Force being the final two remaining makes sense

Really good doc! Watched it twice

Again that has to do with making the line stand out, X has had no shortage of figures for the last decade plus and still going, Classic has had a pretty decent number too but is also currently even working with an affordable retail line with Jada toys on their 5th wave.
Star Force has not had a figure since 2017 and before that hadn’t had one since 2007.
I’d imagine it invites curiosity more to kick your line off with a character who is rarely covered in the figure scene vs truth be told the would be third figure of default X to come out this year alone, and god knows what number if we’re considering every X figure since D-Arts.
As someone who owns the majority of said X figures I’m not exactly chomping at the bit for more of him even though I do understand that Blokees price makes getting one much more plausible.

Star Forces 20th anniversary is this year, it just got a Legacy Collection this year, and in the Mega Man IP is so overstuffed for options in the toy market right now that companies need to make bolder moves to stand out, Star Force Mega Man is definitely one of the avenues you can go down to do that given how little the series has received in this field.
My personal opinion too is just that they're in the upper tier of Mega Man’s game output and deserve more credit than they typically get.

People who want BN7 want it mostly for the game design which is completely valid, same reason I want Star Force 4, well that and I feel like our time with the MMSF cast was cut shorter than it should have been.

If you shoot me a dm I can help you with that

I feel like I'll get flack for it but I really think the main thing elevating the difficulty of this series is the screen resolution, yes it's a problem in every entry. if these games were redone with the same resolution as the ZX duology I don't think this sentiment would be as common.

While I agree Star Force 3 narratively is a solid stopping point I do simultaneously feel like the series was too soon and was cut shorter than they probably had initially wanted for it, I’m not even the biggest fan of MMSF4’s original premise because I felt Star Force 3 did the most the series should possibly do to cater to jaded MMBN fans, without completely forfeiting the series own identity.
By directly making a story centered around Geo teaming up with lan’s descendant, I think that was honestly going too far, But I did like the idea of a time skip, the network timelines biggest issue narratively imo is that these games typically take place a few months apart at most which is insane to wrap your head around, having the characters notably age would’ve felt really fresh.
And then last and most importantly Star Force 3 played really really well, It is tied with X4 as my favorite game in the entire IP, and I know it would seem weird to have the RPGs and platformers next to each other but 1 they have more in common than first glance will tell you, and 2 for me Mega Man is essentially about experimenting with special weapons, the fantasy of being a variable action hero, and Star Force 3 absolutely excels at this, I love the first game and grew to appreciate 2 thanks to Legacy Collection, but they really really found the groove with MMSF3 and it’s a shame they stopped there I would love to see them build upon its gameplay in a 4th entry.
There’s more constellations we could see adapted into bosses, questions we could ask, and they could even throw a bone to people who were put off by how relatively standalone and original Star Force was that they could adapt the Star Droids and Sunstar as characters since they never appeared in Battle Network and they fit the space theme of Star Force perfectly.
Just my thoughts.

Star Force still the most overlooked and underrated thing outta this entire franchise
FinalKnuckle
I’m just going to say it outright yes, X is getting a new game after DO releases, they’ll do a Legends Legacy Collection and then a new X.
It is extremely obvious they want to do a Mega Man X if you pay attention to how many instances the character has been used over the years in spite of not having a new title.

I had friends that quit Battle Network and/or couldn't get into it and I urged them to at least try Star Force I feel those games are more accessible and probably lean into the type of thing they expect out of Mega Man a bit more in that it's sort of a reverse of Battle Network, Battle Network is more a strategy game with action elements, Star Force is more an action game with strategic elements, while they are definitely related, I would think less like 3D Battle Network and more Nintendo's Punch Out!! series mixed with Mega Man.
I think the narrative and characterization in Star Force are some of if not the most compelling in the entire Mega Man franchise, the need to grind is extremely cut down due to battle cards not having letter codes like battle chips, Mega Attack makes close combat attacks like swords feel constantly viable rather than situationally, even the overworld feels more concise and easier to navigate, Mega Man and Geo are the same person and can view each others world while exploring the other, so its easy to remember where things are on visual alone, there is significantly less padding, Stages/Dungeons are more kinetic, designed primarily like obstacle courses instead of puzzles.
and not that everyone resorts to these options but Star Force has brotherband which is a unique way of allowing the single player game to have a co-op element, your strength and battle options can be expanded by having friends that you've linked up with, these were originally meant to be shared experiences, and they're a lot of fun to engage in with others whether you're just updating brother data or fighting each other.
Star Force's legacy collection also has insanely amazing QoL that really let you make the experiences your own.
I'm always advocating for Star Force, I think a lot of people wrote it off back in the day both due to Mega Man fatigue and BN fans not really grasping the difference between streamlining(Star Force) vs watering something down.
They are designed to be standalone games and don't really fall back on BN for storytelling, at most there is wink wink nudge references but they can be entirely understood without BN and while they are for sure related, the gameplay is ultimately it's own animal.
I think both series have their strengths and weaknesses, but I do think Star Force is ultimately more consistent and yeah I would argue it holds up better.

Feels like it’s blown over but the larp was in full extreme effect when Star Force Legacy Collection was announced at least on twitter and facebook

Mega Man and Bass rules, I grew up playing the GBA version and never really struggled with it the way the internet seems to have
I’m willing, you can dm me and I’ll lend you my steam, however their are also several Star Force discord servers that would make playing PvP way easier for you, putting it out there.
