Lewis Hamilton had that idea , although it was a pole award, not a race trophy

The Shell gas station across from Lynnhaven Golf Park. I've refilled a container there, but that was years ago though.

Ahh thank you! I don't know how that was off.

Mom and Pop's Family Restaurant in Norfolk. I've been to a few watch parties in the past.

College roller hockey is very volatile. I played for three years at my school in the southeast. We played in the NCRHA, this is the only college league I am aware of. Teams disappear and reappear all the time. Most teams, if not all, are student run. It's all down to the number of players and funding. I remember a team would win a regional one year then disappear the next. Many graduating seniors. Just how it goes. I remember a team had only five skaters and a goalie all season.

Looks like they still don't update the website often lol. I remember they'd credit my goalies with goals.

My team wasn't listed under club sports at the time, we were under like student organizations or rec sports. Maybe check there too. Every school is different.

ASL Hangout - Hampton Roads / ASL Night Out on Facebook. They post local events monthly.

I feel the Oceanfront could have a food hall. I've been to food halls in Nashville and San Diego and I appreciated being able to walk around and see what's cooking.

One of my local rinks recently banned private lessons from sticks and pucks/puck shoots. Guess that's a good step. I wish they'd do something about junior or college kids taking half of the rink within the first 5 minutes of the session for a scrimmage. The rink also offers pickup slots.

For go karts, check out LeMans Karting in Portsmouth. Easily the best in the area.

Navy. Army and Air Force have been D1 since the 60s. Wonder why Navy hasn't made the jump yet.

I've been thinking the same thing. It's a perfect location with two light rail stations nearby. Good access to 264. Scope is old and "too small" for some big name shows.

Not NHL but ECHL. Last year the game between the Norfolk Admirals and Worcester Railers had to be delayed after the first period because both resurfacers broke down. Ended up resuming the next day without the fans.

Edit: now I remember there was another game last year that an ice worker drilled the goal post peg hole too far down and hit the refrigerant piping. Through the concrete. Sprung a leak. Delayed for like 45 minutes or so. The workers tried to put on a band aid, used some kind of special extinguisher to refreeze so we can complete the game. The arena ended up having to melt the ice and repair. Luckily for us, the arena didn't have any events scheduled for a week.

I started following NASCAR because of his death. The media attention surrounding the event was widespread and I checked it out. Became hooked. I'll never forget the Pepsi 400 when Dale Jr won. That's one happy memory I have.

I live in Virginia so I remember the Virginia Tech mass shooting 4/16/2007. I was in high school, my teacher turned on the TV around lunchtime, well after the events but I didn't know until then.

US Election Night 2016. I was in college. I was sitting in disbelief that the race was close and Trump had won Pennsylvania, securing enough electoral votes. I had an ominous feeling about what was coming.

Happy one: 2001 Pepsi 400 when Dale Earnhardt Jr won the race, first Daytona race after his father was killed in the Daytona 500 earlier that year. I was watching the TV, going crazy. I'll never forget the celebrations.

Deaf since birth. I just told my parents I wanted to try hockey when I was 9 and fell in love with the sport. My deafness never stopped me, there were some communication barriers but we always found solutions. My parents found out about a hockey camp for young deaf/hard of hearing players that's located in the Chicago area (co-founded by Hawks legend Stan Mikita). Met many other players like me. link

As for hearing aids, I've seen a few wear special sweat covers. You can look that up and see what may work for you.

I'm deaf myself (no aids or anything) but never had something like that on my helmet. When I played in youth hockey, my coaches would give the refs heads up that I'm deaf before our games. I'm not sure if I'd want the opponents to know I'm deaf so they'd take advantage, but they'd find out eventually. One time when I was skating with the puck then like two of the opposing players close by would intentionally let up and I assumed a whistle was blown so I let up as well. Of course I lost the puck then they grabbed it and proceeded to score not long after. I wasn't actually mad, just amazed at the brilliant deception. But now I've been playing in the beer league for almost a decade and almost everyone is aware I'm deaf now, never had a problem. I get amused when there is someone new trying to trash talk, but they'd be frustrated because I wasn't giving them any attention. My team would cover that for me.

Glad to see more deaf people skating too. Have fun!

Same energy as Wayne Gretzky and his brother Brent. Most combined career points in the NHL by two brothers. 2,857 points by Wayne to Brent's 4.

I utilized SSD during my four years. Reach out when you get accepted into VT and they'll give you more information. They will try their best to accommodate you with the resources they have and can sometimes suggest "accomodation-friendly" professors/instructors. 95% of my professors were non issue with that, but I've had challenges with a few ones. Ultimately we got that worked out within first couple weeks of classes. Whenever I need a certain service at the last minute, I just contact the office and they'd set it up right away. Very happy with their support during my time.

I remain in touch with one of the SSD staff. He said it is currently underfunded and understaffed as others mentioned in this post. But hey, the campus needs more buildings.

I second this. The local chapter of USNA alumni hosts a watch party at Shorebreak for every Navy game (I'm not an alum, but my dad is). Every year for the Navy-Army game, they'd take over the entire area. I've been there once for this game and it was great, good energy.

That does suck. But no, it was definitely Oompa Loompa. He had the full costume of the Willy Wonka's version with face painted orange.
