Right before Anthropic floats..

Friendly_Average_824

Was just challenging your comment

He probably just consoled himself by going home and looking at his World Cup winners medal. And his European Championship winners medal.

So this is about cyber security. The issue is that when AI is used to hack a system, it’s doing so at a rate humans simply can’t keep up with. It’s finding any exploits that exist quicker than humans can close them. It’s finding exploits in systems that have been there for years that humans haven’t spotted.

One of the uses at present is for AI to be used to find potential exploits in systems and patch them before anyone tries to take advantage of them.

It’s not really going rogue as such. It’s just following its instructions almost obsessively. The hugging face incident was pretty much the agent following its instructions without clearly defined guardrails. It was told to complete a task, it just wasn’t told not to do it in the way that it did.

In an actual war, like the current one in Ukraine, you burn through your trained troops pretty quickly. Like has happened with both Russia and Ukraine.

Friendly_Average_824

We need to focus on more than psychological resistance. We need actual deterrence

Friendly_Average_824

Scaling up our armed forces and being ready is by far the best way of preventing it.

Friendly_Average_824

Russia is threatening us at least once a week

Friendly_Average_824

I don’t think anyone is suggesting we’re going to invade anyone. It’s more a concern that Russia might attack us. Definitely not reasonable our normal but complaining that it’s unfair isn’t really gonna help.

Friendly_Average_824

Usually...

It continues to be an issue. Which is why in the UK energy providers sometimes pay people to use electricity (it can’t be stored effectively and it’s cheaper to pay people to use it rather than wind down production. Octopus agile was paying customers most of the weekend. The rates are back up to over 30p a unit today though.

I’ve looked into batteries for my home but they’re simply not cost effective for me at present. I’d need to spend about £7k for installation and replace every 10 years.

Friendly_Average_824

Batteries are nowhere near good enough yet to manage winters in large parts of the world. They’re also no cheap and degrade over time

Friendly_Average_824

Probably. Just not with Ukraine

Friendly_Average_824

Can polish NATO troops stay? Or have they to ship out as well?

Friendly_Average_824

I’m fairly confident they had a much bigger army at the start ofthe war. Not as high tech but arguably much better equipped to defend against an invading force. Right now, they are way ahead in terms of drone hardware.

Friendly_Average_824

I’m sure all that will be sorted as we move more and more into vibe coding. 😏

Friendly_Average_824

Dementia absolutely does kill you. It can take a while but it is an independent cause of death. It’s a progressive fatal condition.

Friendly_Average_824

The fact he feels he even needs to say that is completely mindblowing.

Friendly_Average_824

You say Ukraine as if they’re playing them at football. They’re a significant military force.

Friendly_Average_824

The point regarding migrant nurses and doctors blocking jobs is also nonsense. I have some professional insight into this and there is a recruitment issue. If we didn’t have migrant nurses etc, we wouldn’t have nurses.

Friendly_Average_824

Absolutely no idea.

Friendly_Average_824

It is a bigger threat.

There are massive benefits to AI. I use it daily both at work and outwith. But that doesn’t reduce the threats we’re talking about.

Here’s the issue. AI is currently inexpensive for the user. But none of the AI companies are turning a profit. This is largely because the licenses they are charging do not in any way cover the cost of usage.

AI is becoming more and more advanced and it will absolutely replace an increasing number of jobs as it continues to progress. At the moment this gives companies a significant cost saving. Obviously because the cost of licenses do not cover usage this situation will not remain that way. Licenses will increase in cost significantly or we’ll see a bigger shift to per token usage. The cost is likely to remain below that of employing a person but that differential will decrease.

Next issue... At present when you pay a worker wages, they pay tax. They will also likely spend a big chunk of these wages locally. The tax helps pay for public services such as the nhs. The money they pay locally helps shopkeepers, tradesmen etc etc etc. Now when companies choose to spend money on AI rather than workers, that money goes largely into the pockets of the US tech companies. And everybody here suffers.

End result, large scale unemployment across all sectors including those which cannot be outsourced to AI. Because nobody has money to pay for them.

Friendly_Average_824

As I said, it won’t fall quickly enough to benefit you in your lifetime. Even at a rate of 1.4. And statistics throughout history suggest that a decline in living standards will lead to more children being born. Not less

Friendly_Average_824

I think the point is that it will impact all jobs
