I realized I never replied to this. Thank you so much for sharing more info on what your work entails! I'll look into it since it sounds like something I'd like to do. Hopefully it exists for other languages than English.

Gamyeon

But you don't quite get a separate storyline as a result, unfortunately. When I was a kid and still learning English, I refused the quest a lot of times before understanding I wasn't supposed to if I wanted to progress in the game.

Gamyeon

Are you trying to tell me seahorses aren't usually cute as heck???

Gamyeon

Gamyeon

That's good info to know. I admit I haven't really looked into the most recent news on these practices. Although I have a feeling that despite the government's efforts, the population's attitude towards piracy probably hasn't changed drastically.

Also, are we talking about any kind of piracy, or mostly on Korean media/cultural products?

Gamyeon

Awesome, I appreciate it!

Gamyeon

Could this be redone periodically? Like if there's enough demand for it in a few months or in a year?

I'm asking since I feel that's not an overwhelming majority and also because I know that I voted "No" before being fully informed on the topic, and unfortunately realized I couldn't change my answer. And I feel I might not be the only one who did that (though that doesn't mean the results would've changed significantly).

Gamyeon

Non non non! Stop making me feel old >n<.

Gamyeon

Yeah. That would probably fall under the "South Koreans don't care about licensing and copyrights" or the stations were able to pay for any fee that would come their way. It's kinda baffling what they get away with at times.

Gamyeon

It's so odd because she contributed to the rise of public acceptance of fanfics, who were not as well-viewed before her.

Gamyeon

Oh yeah. South Koreans do not care much about respecting copyrights. The number of times I've seen knock-off products of brands and franchises is pretty big. And I wouldn't be surprised that the Korean songs used are probably from groups that belonged to the company who also owned the show or TV station.

Gamyeon

Ha ha yeah no. I've been friends for decades with that person at this point and I've settled well into the friendship. I'm happy with how things are now and I wouldn't change them 🙂.

Gamyeon

I'd add to that that the different mentality of both South Korea and Japan when it comes to piracy probably contributed to that discrepancy too.

I've learned that South Korea will pirate anything once it comes out. It gets movie releases before everyone else (mostly) because of it released in the US first, then no one would go to the movie theater because they'd just pirate it.

In contrast, Japan gets movie releases last because they despise piracy and will patiently wait to see it legally instead of pirating it.

With that in mind, it kinda explains why Japanese labels will flag and take down any video of their music that doesn't belong to them (and they're pretty efficient at it), which surely has prevented their music from gaining as much popularity as the Korean counterpart, who really doesn't seem to care unless it hurts their sales or reputation.

I came to the mindset of “my primary goal is to make her happy, even if the person making her happy isn’t me, then she’s still happy. As long as she lives the life she wants with someone who respects and supports her, then I can live with the person who makes her smile being someone else.”

This is very important! I came to a similar mindset of "If I can't be their romantic partner, I'll be the best friend I can be to them!" Because they were very important to me, despite the emotions I held for them.

Gamyeon

I mean, the guy would need to look the variety of French that's related to his family. It's not that difficult.

Also, that's localization for ya. Translating something that has a lot of cultural context needs to be properly adapted to a given cultural audience, else there's a high chance the piece won't land and be successful.

Gamyeon

I think it has some value since Kris doesn't have the soul within them every time they create a fountain. Maybe if they did, the fountain would be a different colour then.

Gamyeon

Fun personal fact: As a teen, I worked for one of the people that established the standards for the race. I had no idea before a co-worker, who was also her acquaintance/friend, told me (he also had a few sphinxes at home and he told me a bunch about them). We both were employed in a little sandwich counter in a touristic town.

Gamyeon

I wish I could. Like have the option of "Well you should know that all vegetables are actually fruits, right?" and see what he replies after that.

Gamyeon

Me suis-je trompée?

Gamyeon
