The community here in Los Angeles is pretty chill. Most people I know that play are doing so because they want a minis game that can finish in under 45mins. Nobody really talks about the setting other than some of it is kinda silly or how some of it reminds us of Warzone. Rules wise, its pretty good for what it is. It feels a bit like chess in the sense that you are really fighting for good posistioning to force your opponent into a bad position so you can punish them. You can get hosed with a series of bad rolls but its offset by the fact that its easy to pack up and play a second game of it. The factions feel pretty diverse but most people I know fall into two categories - they end up buying into everything or they just own the one faction they think looks coolest.

Carpathia: "It's 4 hours away. I'll be there in 3."

Depending upon where you are staying and your overall interests you could take the Metro A line from Old Town Pasadena, to South Pasadena, to Highland Park. You say you don't like art museum but you might consider the Norton Simon Museum since its close walking distance from Old Town Pasadena. A slightly longer walk is The Gamble House which is open on Tuesdays and very nice to see if you are interested in architecture.
In Old Town you can hit up a new place that opened up called WA-IRO which is a Japanese bakery. The items range from savory to sweet and the coffee/matcha is pretty good (IMO the better Coffee places are Jones, James, and Republik). It's great food to grab and eat/walk around with/save for later. Otherwise, Union Street French Cafe is very nice and pleasant to have brunch at. Just nextdoor is a used clothing boutique. Its usually by appointment but the woman who runs it is friendly and if she is there and not busy she'll let you in. It's a curated collection of high end fashion. And next door from that is a Rare Book Store. If you turn the corner and look down Holly St you'll see our fabulous City Hall.
If you want to train into Highland Park as part of your adventure you could walk over to Burritos La Palma. Its inside Tropicana Market. Very excellent Burria Burritos.

Came here to say this as well. It’s such an amazing little rules system with fantastic minis. The flavor and uniqueness really shines alongside a system that is baked into being OBJECTIVE based and not kill based

I'm not sure on that one. Might be more of a preference. Also, most of the dancers I know do both. Essentially, once you learn one its easier to go onto others and learning multiple helps to reinforce it all. The biggest thing is just showing up and practicing. Everyone was a beginner at one point. If you tell people you are just starting out they aren't going to judge you or anything.

I would hope Archon is smart enough to not just copy/paste the game. However, I can see a world where Warcraft takes notes for the core rules of Starcraft and makes it something different. They could make it more hero centric or skirmish-like. They could have neutral monsters or XP. But all the rolling for attack/defense/army selection remain relatively the same

You are in luck. There are some good options. If you are looking for lessons and classes you can look into Crown City Dance over on Rosemead. Check their website. In addition, The Moose (Burbank Moose Lodge), does a ton of Blues, Lindy Hop, and Swing (along with a lot of others). They usually begin the evening with a free dance lesson so its a great way to meet other beginners, teachers, etc. It's a very friendly and solid community. On facebook, if you join the "Social Dance LA" you'll see all events happening

Try Crown City Games in Old Town. Board game nights (Wednesdays) the ages range from 20 to 50. The CCG crowd is mostly 20s and then the DnD groups are also varied.

10% of your points is Vespasian gas is used to buy buildings. So if you play 2000 minerals you get 200 gas. Building A might cost 25 gas and allow you to take 1 core unit. Building B might be 45 and allow you to take 1 elite and 1 support. On top of this, each building has a special ability or two. Those can be used during your turns. So you are not only crafting the composition of units you’ll be able to purchase with your minerals (ie, my Stalkers count as 2 elite for a full squad) but also what options for special abilities you will have. The extra extra sauce is that units have special abilities too that may cost energy. Most buildings provide one energy. So you can exhaust a building for its energy or exhaust it to use its building special ability, but not both in the same round

It is a very fun system. Lots of very good decision points to be made. List building is very cool where you first build out what types of units you can take and what special abilities your army will have before you then purchase the actual units. It’ll become more varied and interesting as more units come out each month

Moved onto Wardogs so I don’t have to deal with the horrible ping issues BA is having.
Gearjock
Damn, now you infected me with this thought too. The rule system would reallly carry over well to a fantasy system. Just need to add magic
Gearjock
I’ve had to stop playing. Last 3 of my 4 games have been over 100 ping. Last game got all the way to 280. I’m based in the US. I’ve never had this issue before but then with this patch it started. Maybe it’s just coincidence but it makes the game unplayable and I feel bad for my allies

I really wish HBO would do a series on them similar to the John Adam’s treatment. A really amazing story with a lot of interesting characters. It’s wild to think what it was like to see this happen. People would travel across countries to watch them fly in Europe. To think it’s something you would never see and then bam, man is flying through the sky. Like seeing an act of god or something

Is it the exact same parts but one is clear plastic and one is solid? Could you mix and match the parts
Gearjock
Very awesome work. I'm assuming airbrush to get it that smooth? Also, would you mind sharing what you used for those bases? They are gorgeous and I'm looking to do something similar.

I would also go witht he double slap chop method. Zenithal. Put on 1 layer of a darker shade than what you want. Drybrush white on. Put 1 layer of lighter color. For minimal effort you get really great results. I think it works especially well with the Speedpaints 2.0 b/c they are thinner than the GW contrast paints.

I've used Rock N Roll movers three times. Twice had them help pack stuff. Always a quality service.

So...uh, asking for a friend, does anyone have the instructions to share for that portal spell?

Greylune was very cool. 3 of the 4 of us who had the demo immediately purchased a copy of it. Was just a well crafted euro style board game that really thrived on player interaction and choice.

The fate of all the food vendors. During the height of the food truck craze there were some absolute gems. Now the quality of ingredients has significantly gone downhill for most of them
Gearjock
At what point do they add LCD screens to meme on their opponents “Skill Diff”
Gearjock
Honestly it’s a great filter. Image these people being part of the player base and having to deal with them. Absolute misery.
Gearjock
I think that is part of the issue. In the PTE the IFVs and such DID have a limited supply. So it didn’t last forever BUT it was super easy to run them to a supply depot, fill up, and then get back to the lads. It’s wild that we then ended up here
Yeah, its Heavy Gear at a larger scale. I'm sure some people would be interested in it. If keeping it, enjoy! Looks like you have enough to play the game using the Blitz rules. There are also several minis agnostic mecha games you could use them for too.
