"Vibe coding" without understanding the code the AI is outputting is like being a non-technical manager of a very technical team. If you're not savvy enough to understand what the team is producing, then you have absolutely no bullshit detector. You can't tell the difference between good and garbage, and you have no choice but to fully trust whoever is writing the code. Which in the case of a vibe coder is an LLM that isn't a human and doesn't really understand the end goal of the software. One hallucination and you're fucked.

Go to work.

In situations like this, where you inherit infrastructure that is old and largely undocumented, the best thing to do is migrate the data/software to something new while the old system is still working. Then you can switch over to the new system, test, and if it fails, switch back. Rinse repeat until the new setup works. This avoids the possibility of an update process borking something you have no idea how to unbork.

Stop taking online applications. Take real applications in-person in your office or by mail. The way job applications worked (without being flooded with crap) for a century before a bunch of online job posting businesses convinced every idiot hiring manager in corporate america that they could find some unicorn candidate if they just filter thousands of garbage applications. Every company worked this way and was able to find good people to hire for a long time before any of this online application garbage completely dehumanized and ruined the job hunting and hiring process.

Oh no! Not 30 days in a minimum security Finish "prison" that's basically a glorified hotel. Such punishment!

According to Steam Hardware Survey it now has the largest percentage share. But it's kinda weird that it like almost doubled its share between August and September. Was there a big price drop on them or some big retailer running a sale on them recently?

Generico300

Shaming? He won a major award for it!

Generico300

That's the funniest part of this. Women still can't figure out POV.

Nobody will give up their flagship iphone or galaxy (which will still not have a replaceable battery) for a different brand that has these features. This regulation only applies to phones that aren't IP67 rated, which most phones are. They'll say they want this, but they won't buy this, and that's the only part that matters. If not having replaceable batteries, better repairability, 3.5mm audio jacks, user upgradable storage, and all the other features people say they want actually negatively affected sales, those things would all still be standard features. But nobody actually cares. Nobody gives a fuck about literal mountains of e-waste. They just want pretty status symbol phone.

Generico300

When your memory card ran out of storage, we bought one with higher memory and transferred the photos. Now we have to pay a subscription to save our photos. TF you mean do we want this. Yes we effing do.

No we effing don't. We want iphones. Whatever the fuck that happens to mean this year. We just want the iphone. Tons of phones have had those features. Even older iphones. And then those features get removed, and idiots keep buying iphones instead of phones that still have those things. Clearly all the morons of the world care about is having an iphone.

This is most of the issue. The whole home construction industry is setup to build stick frame box houses. So we just build the same fucking thing everywhere even if it's complete nonsense to do so. It's amazing how many people think you can't build a house above ground that will survive a tornado. You absolutely can, at a moderately greater expense (but certainly cheaper than a whole new house). It's just not going to look like a traditional house, and that's what idiots want, so that's what they get sold.

Generico300

Concrete dome structures can survive tornadoes pretty easily. Basically, you need to not be a rectangular box presenting flat walls faced directly into the wind. Then racking and uplift forces from the wind are greatly reduced and impacts are deflected instead of absorbed.

Generico300

And people wonder how they built the pyramids. By getting like 40,000 dudes to work on it for a long time.

Generico300

No, they don't. And that's not exclusive to America either. Do not under estimate how fucking stupid people are. If you're asking people to make judgements based on something they have to read, or anything beyond the most superficial first impression, you will be sorely disappointed. Half of this species wouldn't qualify as the smartest member of a chimpanzee troop.

Generico300

It's funny how many people still think Trump isn't a russian agent. Funny and depressing at the same time.

Generico300

I wouldn't get my hopes up. The morons are still morons, and the corruption gets deeper every day.

Generico300

Yup. I just don't play public games. Rampant cheating is nothing new in that space.

Generico300

How funny would it be if LAN parties make a comeback because online gaming is ruined by AI.

Generico300

Resumes are getting shotgunned into our systems with falsified work histories by AI within minutes of the posting going live. It can be hundreds of fake applications within 2 hours.

And yet at no point will it occur to corporate America that there's an easy solution to the problem of being flooded with countless fake applications.

I'd say it's fairly rare that a kid over 18 would ask their parent to come to the job interview. It's way more likely that helicopter mom demanded to come along. It's funny how many Gen X parents who were latch-key kids overcorrected so hard and became helicopter or "bulldozer" parents.

Generico300

Yeah most of the problems being mentioned in this thread are the result of a generation of parents being too busy with work to actually raise their kid. It's astounding how many parents think their kid is their buddy and the school is responsible for teaching them literally everything they need to know to be an adult.

Generico300

They are pleased to get a D because “it’s passing” and they all things they are going to go into the trades and get paid $30+ an hour straight out of high school and not need to know math or any other skills we are trying to teach.

Teens are being fed a lot of bullshit online about what the trades really are, and nobody is correcting them. They'll learn the hard way.

Generico300

Sounds like a prime marketing candidate to me.

Generico300

showing up to interviews with zero social skills, or are companies just setting ridiculous expectations?

<Gump>I think maybe both is happening at the same time.</Gump>

I'm not a hiring manager, but 1000% for sure a ton of companies have absolutely absurd expectations for young entry level candidates (I say this as someone with 20 years experience in my field and seeing new people come in). When you're hiring young people out of school, you should not be expecting high levels of technical understanding and experience. You should be looking for personal qualities, like critical thinking, general problem solving, and work ethic. Too many companies seem to think they should never actually have to train anyone, which is nothing but entitled stupidity on their part.

I remind myself that the depression is probably making things feel much worse than they are in reality, and I try to re-examine my situation as rationally as I can manage. I try to find some small thing I could change to maybe improve things, and then try to focus on doing that. I try to remind myself that this isn't all my fault. But most importantly, I talk to someone I can trust about my situation and how I'm feeling. Doesn't matter if it's a friend, relative, or just a therapist. Just saying it out loud helps at least a little.
