Also it's explicitly clear what things degrade and what doesn't: things made directly by humans are fine, but things made by machines get degraded by the ambient magic. The further removed an object is from a human manually building it, the faster it decays.

I don't expect Nix to have fleshed out every minute detail of the world, he has said he doesn't do that. As he writes the stories the world grows around them, both for him and for us, the readers. But what he does provide has interesting implications.

I was just having fun following the logic, mate. With as similar as Garth Nix makes Britain and Ancelstierre, it seems to me the more logical conclusion is that if The Old Kingdom had certain plants before England equivalently, then they got those plants from somewhere on their side of the wall.

It seems to me that lots of things are found independently on either side of the wall, including similar plant and animal species. The chronology of events isn't cleanly laid out, but 1 key point: the connection of the worlds of The Old Kingdom and Ancelstierre occurred after the Destroyer was defeated, but before the Wall was built. So a more open flow between the 2 worlds occurred for some unspecified amount of time.

Also, Ancelstierre couldn't invade and take over The Old Kingdom at any era. They don't have magic, they don't have a way of combating the Dead. They'd have to march over land for hundreds of miles to even reach Belisaire. Much further than a march to Scotland from London.

The solution: fighting is her hyperfixation! When she gets the chance to actually fight, she’s a focused expert who hates distractions.

Outside of fights, she’s just happy to get to talk to people about her interests, so an adventuring party is perfect! Maybe she’s had trouble making friends in the past cause they don’t want to listen/engage with her about armor and weapons and battle history, etc.

As in they host open, flagrant White Supremacists, like Richard Spencer and Nick Fuentes. Nobody needs to platform them, or Religious Nationalists (an awful lot of Christian Nationalists get to spew their hate and bigotry on there).

In Clariel, they mention Bamboo flooring in one building, as well as Tea being recently introduced to the Old Kingdom. They don't specify where the tea came from though.
In actual England, tea wasn't introduced till the 1500s. Clariel would have taken place in their equivalent of the early 1300s. So The Old Kingdom would presumably have had Tea before Ancelstierre. That suggests to me that Tea was also native to the world of TOK, just not the Kingdom itself. Maybe far north? Maybe across the seas?

Do you think he refuses the papers on his desk that he dramatically whips around for effect?
