That came out great, and that's cool that it came from your grandparents tree. 10/10

100%... like, do you know how the human species got to where it's at? it's because we started working together, forming a society where people help each other and we were all better off for it... not helping your daughter is just the worst and most extreme opposite you can take... fuck those parents
GiantNinja
good one
GiantNinja
that was my question

No kidding!?!?! That is my Ace Hardware and literally the closest place you could have possibly mentioned. I will tell Brian you sent me. I go there at least once a week and they know me by name, lol, I just usually don't get finishes there that often, but I will definitely pick some up and give it a try.

Nice!! Are there any stores locally in Tallahassee where we can purchase this? I usually use the Milk Paint pure tung oil and citrus solvent, but reading your comments about fresh vs old oil has me thinking I could definitely use some fresh oil, and since I live in Tallahassee, it'd be great to be able to pick some up locally if possible?

I have the same one (although it's the one with the wider 52" rip capacity) and it has served me well for years. Got it from Lowes for around a $1000 and I regret nothing. I do wish the fence was a little better, but it was such an upgrade to my benchtop dewalt. $300 for that saw is a steal and cheaper than my dewalt was (and I still liked my dewalt I got for like $400ish)

tung oil is awesome, but if you're using pure tung oil, you will have a long cure time, like a month before it's truly cured. others may disagree, but I think odies oil on walnut makes the wood look better than most, but it's protection level isn't something to brag about (it's easy to touch up and fix if you get scratches or whatever)
I have never used walnut veneer, so might be some caveats there, and the walnut I made my dining room table out of, some boards had a darker purple-ish color/tone, but I've never encountered the reddish color, so not sure about that. And if they weren't from the same tree, walnut can vary quite a bit from super figured and colored, to boring brown and in between, so matching is almost never going to be perfect when compared side by side. embrace the difference is what I say, since I couldn't make different pieces look the same if you tried to force me to, lol... good luck!
GiantNinja
worng... whoops, that was a typo... you're just WRONG... there's a difference
GiantNinja
Yea, I like him fwiw, but I love Tom Hanks too and he's not right for that role either, lol
GiantNinja
I do this with my truck... I got a cheap clothes hamper from walmart that was big enough to hold it but still pretty snug, and then i tie up the hamper to the anchor in my truck bed, so I can take the can out but it won't slide around

I got similar ones to OP from a great CNC company and they are fantastic. I didn't have the time crunch issue but they arrived fast and with a personalized thank you note that a small company does sometimes (and they were like the same price anyways as the amazon ones)
I can't remember last time I was truely amazed by a small company doing what they do, and doing it well. I would give them a look
GiantNinja
I feel the same. One of the things that always amazed me was how he (and the other late night hosts) were able to go through the daily vomit from this POS and somehow have some fun come out of it... I would have been worn me out much sooner
GiantNinja
not true. if you let it cure, it's a fantastic finish for a cutting board, but it can take a few weeks to actually finish curing, so not a great choice if you are making them to sell with a timeframe factor. but for a personal cutting board with no due date, it's great, and doesn't take months, but probably close to a month
GiantNinja
It's my favorite cutting board finish by far, however you need to let it fully cure, and that can take weeks. I like to use a 50/50 blend of pure tung oil and citrus solvent, like milk paint half & half. As long as it's cured, it's a great finish

I made my GF watch the Technology Connections videos about dishwashers.
ohh, that must have been fun... Don't get me wrong, I've already watched it, so idk what someone making me watch it would be like, but I'm guessing about as fun as when you "make" someone watch a funny youtube video that nearly makes you pee yourself lands when you show to someone else and doesn't hit and it's just crickets.... rough
GiantNinja
I love way those came out, great job!!
about your P.S... the only "sanding" I've ever enjoyed was using a benchtop power belt/disc sander combo thing, and shaped a piece to where it needed to be...
but overall, sanding will continue to suck at least a bit, for the foreseeable future from what I can tell, wish I had better news :-\
GiantNinja
fair enough... I didn't even know what this device was at first, lol. Amazing the different problems and solutions there are for different things out there.
GiantNinja
Easy peasy!! step 3 sounds like no problem at all 🤣. Just take a new/different machine to a machine shop... doubt that's what OP was asking for... I don't know what you've gone through dealing with machines that cut soft things like tomatoes, but I'd imagine it's a lot, since it seems like this has come up before in your life
GiantNinja
finally, a 100% offline DNS lookup tool!! I didn't think it could be done, but I guess I never tried vibe coding one 🤣
GiantNinja
wait... it's not July! 🤣
GiantNinja
oh wow... that makes more sense then, if they went all in on their style for their restaurant. wish I lived near there to check them out to see what a place that puts that much love into beautiful woodworking looks like... anyways, enjoy that sweet machine. even though my ryobi is kinda ugly in comparison, it's one machine I never regretted picking up
GiantNinja
Kinda strange that a restaurant was selling a belt/disk sander combo, but I love it. Never know where awesome finds like this will show up, and this is so much nicer than my ryobi combo sander, lol
that is beautiful and made my day... post more, you're gorgeous :)
