I think this is the part people have a problem with. It’s the exchange of forgiveness for an apology, where an apology shouldn’t have an expectation of forgiveness.

I’m in the camp of letting people right their wrongs and grow as people. We all make mistakes, and it’s nice to see someone acknowledge those mistakes and try to make it right.

Not everyone here has to accept an apology, and they’re allowed to feel their feelings. That’s ok. There’s a lot of hurt from the church here.

But I do appreciate the self reflection, I think that will always be the best way forward. Apologies where apologies need to be said, and moving on.

That’s fine if you want to do that. I just hope you’re understanding my point here. I don’t think it’s ever the wrong thing to apologize, in fact I think it’s quite nice of you, but it matters how you apologize. People have been hurt by the institution that you are a part of. I just ask for sensitivity and a little understanding on why phrases like “forgive me” can trigger people here.

I appreciate the sentiment and am very happy that you recognize the hurt that was caused by your post, it’s nice seeing people grow and learn from their past mistakes and practice empathy.

That being said, the “forgive me” stuff can be really triggering for the users on this subreddit, especially with you being an active church member, so I needed to remove this post.

I super agree with this actually. Slow progress is still progress, there’s no sense in completely flipping everything upside down overnight and creating turmoil. OP don’t overwhelm yourself, just put one foot in front of the other and things will work out ❤️

This new boyfriend has sent or shown me some videos on YouTube explaining orthodoxy and I literally cannot even begin to explain why, but it genuinely gives me a sense of total discomfort and it almost feels slightly evil to me in a way.
