I believe it’s the lack of a social safety net, which is further based in the US’ hyper-individualistic culture. Especially since COVID, there is no community or collaboration. We are individuals looking to survive and too many people see things like this as an opportunity to get money because there’s not much else in the way of being able to guarantee your stability (assuming you win).

Even people who work in development outside of Silicon Valley eye roll at a lot of this nonsense.

Right, is this just a few poorly calibrated touch screens among thousands nationwide? I’m curious to see how widespread this is.

I loved my Note and I have a Duo on order. If someone made a case and an aftermarket stylus that held it that worked like my Note it would be “shut up and take my money” territory.

Is this an IPTV feed?

I have a local Forgejo git repo. I run Terraform, Ansible, and Argo. I maintain a canonical inventory of my hardware and software in an inventory YAML file set that is used by all of those so I minimize the risk of duplicating info. My schema, whenever possible, maps back to NetBox’s mappings to present in there for visibility as well.

I wouldn’t bet on it, unfortunately

The Applebee’s near me is three people and a microwave, and if you get your food in under an hour, you’re lucky.

Yiiikes. I will continue to go Ethernet-less.

I have one on pre-order. Am I the only one who likes Touch ID over Face ID?

GreenDavidA

Sad Cleveland noises

Setting arbitrary token metrics is a lunatic thing to do. Refusing to even consider using AI tooling in some part of your personal development workflow in 2026 is just stubbornness. I’m not saying just “let ‘er rip,” but there are opportunities to dip your toes with it. It’s a tool, just like an IDE. And yes, there are very productive people that just use vim and clang, but there’s also a lot of non-deterministic cruft that can be helped with an LLM.

Same. I used to work out three-four times a week and I just felt sweaty, sore, and miserable. I did it because I was losing weight. Once I stopped losing weight I stopped. At no point did I feel good.

GreenDavidA

I wish the people offering suggestions in the thread would understand that some people just do not feel good after any physical activity.

GreenDavidA

Same. I feel absolutely miserable after any form of exercise. Even after a period of time when I was working out three-four days a week, I still felt awful after. I only did it because I was losing weight. I hit a plateau and stopped torturing myself.

I haven’t created any dashboards yet because I just don’t think I can think of anything that would be useful beyond stock. I don’t have a ton of devices because I have some limitations in my smart devices, mainly I can’t put in smart switches.

If someone had told me right after the All-Star break we’d have made it to Game 6 of the ALCS, I’d have thought they were nuts. I’m sad we didn’t get further but really proud for getting way further than any of us thought we would.

GreenDavidA

Is that atypical for any President, though?

Sorry, the Greyhound and Amtrak in Cleveland is closed. And the red line is shut down for construction to the airport; best we can offer is rail replacement bus.

The issue with sticks is that even without line-of-sight communication (IR), being blocked away does increase the chances of communication difficulties. Further, Apple values branding above all else, and having their device tucked behind a television would be an anathema to their business model. As for the chips, the fewer chip models they need to dab, the cheaper and easier it is for them, even if it means overpowering a device.

If you’re from the US and/or are in the US, just accept that any of our food is adapted from the original regions and isn’t authentic. You can still 100 percent enjoy it, but unless it’s a first-generation immigrant who is making it exactly like they did at home with the same ingredients and no adaptations, it will be “Americanized.” I don’t think it’s a problem, it’s just something to understand.

Now, people from the US going somewhere else expecting the local food to taste exactly like US food they’re idiots. I personally have never left the US so I haven’t experienced this, but from what I’ve been told over the years many people who go overseas enjoy experiencing the differences.

Drywall isn’t meant to be cut if you’re like me and you’re too incompetent to fix and paint it once it’s been cut.

Plus I have plaster and lathe in many places. My walls scare me.

Buuuuuuut I’ve been told that it will cost $30,000 every 5,000 miles!!!!!1!
