To think that you created an account last month just in time for election season.

It was that the designers built a game that was supposed to be following how people were playing the game at the time and it just magically didn't end up being popular.

Considering what it did to the Forgotten Realms, I can't imagine why people hated it.

Nope. Not at all.

Halaku

So, it's like this.

  • There's over fourty national churches (Provinces) across the globe that are part of the Anglican Communion, descended in one form or another with the Church of England. Some of them (The US and Welsh ones off the top of my head) would cheerfully welcome you with open arms. I can't speak for the rest, but in Brazil you'd be looking for Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil and if you click that link you'll be taken to a listing for that Province and her ten Dioceses in case you'd like to find one close to you. THIS LINK should take you directly to their main page. I am pleased to report that they fully affirm LGBTQ+ inclusion, allowing same-sex marriage and ordaining open LGBTQ+ clergy. If you go there, you'll be in excellent hands.

  • But. Not all Anglicans are as affirming, and not all Anglicans are in the Communion. While the IEAB dates back to 1810 (The only church in Brazil older than us Anglicans is the Catholics) there's a breakaway new kid on the block, the Anglican Church in Brazil (IAB), formalized in 2018 and largely supported by African churches that are not affirming. Needless to say, neither is the IAB. They're Anglican, sure, but the main reason the Anglican faith is seeing schism in the 21st century boils down to "Conservative churches saying the rest of us are Doing It Wrong" and walking away, so if you don't treat Catholic or conservative protestant churches as safe options, you probably want to give them a pass, and stick to the two links from the previous point.

Good luck. Welcome home.

There are major bureaucratic hurdles in the way of new construction, and that's before legal machinations and voter propositions come into play.

Halaku

You don't have an issue.

Your friend has an issue.

They'll need to appeal the suspension on their own.

Halaku

Your post got nuked.

In short, our theory is that voters often do not judge housing policies by weighing the costs and benefits to them personally or the impacts the policy would have on their neighborhoods, but rather by relying on their affect toward the groups these policies make salient.

I live in the San Francisco bay area.

Virtually no one here votes against housing with this being a primary motivation.

Rather, it's straight "I don't want my property values lowered", with "I don't want more traffic" and "I don't want more immigration causing increased competition for resources".

It really is that simple. Sticking it to folk who profit off housing availability increases is decidedly tertiary.

Halaku

They're solidly MAGA, pro-ACNA, and anti-TEC.

Does that make them untrustworthy? Or is that simply a paradigm you need to keep in mind?

Halaku

"I don't have the money (or I do and I don't want to spend it)" is the same logic used to defend piracy.

Which may help explain the reasoning behind the negative reactions when encountered.

New blood for the r/Lounge!

In addition, if an author uses AI to generate an image for their book, particularly the cover, that seems like a good use of the tool as well. Yes, you can argue that they should pay an artist for those images, but many indie authors out there don’t have the funds for that. And if a book does not have an engaging cover, that can certainly impact the sales.

So it's okay for an author to replace an artist with a program to do the cover, replace a narrator with a program to do the audiobook, but it's not okay to replace the author to write the book?

Halaku

Off the top of my head, nothing's singing out at me, so I'll ask:

What class has a spell list that doesn't have at least one of each school of spell at 1st level?

Halaku

They also endorse Ritesh Tandon, so they can cheerfully go fuck themselves with a frozen pineapple.

Halaku

I think in 2026, if you weren’t raised as a Christian, most adults simply aren’t going to start believing it later because it sounds like a wacky myth.

We're not done any favours by those of the faith who cherrypick Scripture for their own purposes, and by those who take advantage of them for personal / professional / partisan / political game.

If I was a fresh teenager trying to figure out what I should believe, and I ran straight into the was the Secretary of Defense was weaponizing the faith, I'd have run away. Because that shit is bananas.

But, they get to spread it, and as an institution, we seem to be reluctant to challenge them on it, lest we be deemed "uncharitiable", so we end up ceding the field.

Halaku

If you can provide a link to a member of the ban being for or against a particular party or candidate, then fan art demonstrating that would be fine. But if we don't know what someone's positions are about a topic, creating an image that says they're for or against that topic is poor form. We don't want to set up a claim that a band member is For or Against anything without proof.

Halaku

We don't allow AI here.

So the idea of a "true" Anglican Communion is dependent on what your idea of what the Anglican Communion is.

Words still have defined meaning, though.

“It is simply not true to say that ACNA is part of the Anglican Communion. To be part of the Communion, a province needs to be in communion with the See of Canterbury and to be a member of the Instruments of the Communion. ACNA is not in communion with the See of Canterbury—and has not sought membership of the Instruments.” ~ Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon, secretary general of the Anglican Communion.

The four Instruments of Communion are:

  • The Anglican Consultative Council (ACC)

  • The Archbishop of Canterbury

  • The Primates’ Meeting

  • The Lambeth Conference

Mbanda and the authors of the Abuja Affirmation formally rejected all of this in March. It's literally a key clause of the Affirmation:

"We reject the so-called Instruments of Communion, namely the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Lambeth Conference, the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC), and the Primates’ Meeting" ~ Mbanda

Any group that signs onto the Abuja Affirmation is, by doing so, rejecting membership within the Anglican Communion. Not by any doing of the Communion, but by their own words and deeds.

This was something that was supposed to apply to individuals, churchs, Provinces, and other groupings at Abuja, until the three leaders of the dissident Anglican Communion Provinces realized that no one else was thirsty for grape flavor aid, so after 'praying on it' the 'Gac' leadership changed it so now only "leaders holding 'Gac' office" are required to boycott the Instruments of Communion, and everyone else can settle for alliegence to the Jerusalem Declaration again, not that there's really a difference between the two documents.

When someone tells you who they are, we should believe them the first time. Folk can claim membership in Gafcon if they want to. Folk can claim membership in the 'Gac' if they want to. But you can't claim allegience to both the Affirmation and the Anglican Communion at the same time, because the former demands that you abandon the latter. And that's their choice. We should honor it, and let them set forth on a new path, but we don't have to agree with any sort of linguistic word-bending of "Well, we can claim what we want to claim because we're using a definition that no one else uses and that's why we're telling the truth!", because that's just false witness with a pretty bow on top.

Halaku

I was wondering whether it would be seen as rude or bad to oppose this resolution for these reasons.

It would not, no.

Regardless of whether or not I share it, the view of "If we don't take care of ourselves today, we won't be in a place to take care of others tomorrow" is a valid one.

Vote your conscience. It's why you have one.

Halaku

Well, r/Lounge is going to be the place to be!

Halaku

Any chance y'all will be able to have an in-person attendance for next year, for the Bay Area locals?

Halaku

Just wanted to say that I appreciate y'all answering my question about Old Reddit during this segment.

Halaku

Groups can choose to say whatever they want.

But if they're lying, they should expect other groups to call them on it.

"ACNA is an Anglican denomination" is a true statement.

"ACNA is a denomination in the Anglican Communion" is a false statement, as clarified by the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion almost ten years ago, and remains true today.

Halaku

You'll want to revisit previous threads for this.

Because of where the game falls along the timeline, the Sylvari haven't been invented yet, and the Charr really don't have reasons to be Vaelwardens in Orr.

Ignoring decades of previously established lore for fanservice would likely do more harm than good.
