I disagree, the angle from which someone is looking at the person isn’t important. People are attracted to others bodies, that can include any body part, so I don’t see how checking whether you are attracted to a specific part of a person’s body is inherently objectifying.

There is a difference between going “Oh, I’m attracted to this person’s physical attributes, maybe I should approach them to get to know them better and see if there’s a spark.” and just lusting after them.

Again, what you’re talking about isn’t checking out, it’s lusting and/or eyefucking the person.

What we know of their background is that >!they were created by Bhaal and on their own until they were adopted and had a happy childhood.<!

Bhaal proceeded to force them to kill their adopted family, and whenever they disobeyed took over and made them kill those close to them.

Eg. If your Durge is a paladin Saraavok tells you that your bloodlust forced you to kill your whole temple of paladins. (I’m assuming Durge joined the paladins to suppress Bhaal’s influence following the family situation in this universe).

We don’t know when they broke under pressure and started doing Bhaal’s will, but at that point they were fully isolated from everyone, forced to murder, and forced to find pleasure in it, the way the narrator and Orin describe it Bhaal’s offspring are made to feel incomparable ecstasy from murder, imagine if you could literally get addicted to killing.

Once they lost their memories they are still forced to kill, but most of the damage can be circumvented through the fact that all that trauma and mental damage Bhaal inflicted on them is gone, and that they now have a relatively powerful party that can keep then in check.

Furthermore they have the previous God of the Dead to help them break away from Bhaal’s influence.

I think a case can be made for both a resisting Durge who hates being evil, and one who hates being controlled.
