it will explain to you:

"You'll need to export your Vault to a third-party wallet app or service. If not, you'll be unable to transfer or sell your Collectible Avatars off-platform, and otherwise unable to access your Vault’s underlying blockchain wallet for any purpose. However, you will continue to be able to use your Collectible Avatars within the app"

According to the last sentence from the quote, even if you do not back up the seedphrase for your Vault, it seems like you should still expect the ability to use the Avatars.
Of course, I would recommend that you do back up your seedphrase just in case.

I don't think it was the "cheating community" that discovered this

Someone figured out how to inject custom images onto objectors, and they used this to create "animated" "gif" objectors. Except, the images are animated .apng files. The animation does not play in-game, but it would load on backpack.tf.

The method used to inject .apng files is also the method used to inject other, more nefarious images on objectors. I talk to someone who definitely isn't part of the cheating community, and he was doing tests as "proof of concept" to report to Valve in case there are exploits like this one (which he reported)
