How technical? These are all from various reports on NTRS:

ME273-0041 Coupling Assembly Disconnect, 02 ME273-0047 Coupling Assembly Disconnect, H2 ME284-0290 Valve, Module 02 ME284-0291 Valve, Module H2 ME286-0036 Filter-Inline V37-447580 Cryo Fan Fuse Box V37-454200 Oxygen Shelf Assembly

I dropped the last four digits from the NAA drawing numbers because those are part numbers you can find within the drawings. So if you're looking to request them from the National Archives they won't find them unless they're in this format. MEXXX-XXXX are all electrical spec drawings that usually have a corresponding MCXXX-XXXX for the mechanical specs.

This is enough for quite a rabbit hole. The tanks and fans would be expected to show up in some of the vendor drawings.

If you really want to drop the cash on aperture card scans from the National Archives Fort Worth I'd go for V37-454200 because the assembly drawings call out the other parts on a BOM as drawing numbers.

National Archives at Fort Worth is the correct answer although what most people are looking for can be found on some of NASA's history sites. Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo are the easiest to access aside from being poorly indexed. This is an area I'm actively working on because the hard copies and aperture cards were accessioned into different sections of record group 255 than the drawing lists, which are contained in contractor files and MSC/JSC. I recently helped to locate and successfully request aperture card scans from the Shuttle Drawing System (SDS).

For more current drawings you'll encounter more ITAR, EAR, as well as limited duplication rights imposed by contractors. SDS is still active (I have an open FOIA request working to obtain a database export). JEDII appears to still be the current system and there is evidence that legacy systems including EDCC exist in some form.

If you're looking for boosters, propulsion, thermal protection, or some parts of guidance you'll hit ITAR very quickly. If you can verify your status as a US Person (actual legal terminology) you can view ITAR materials but you can't make copies, take pictures, and will often face restrictions on taking notes.

Mercury through Shuttle I can at least point you in the right direction, possibly as detailed as drawing numbers. Have your wallet ready when you send in your request to NARA, though, as aperture card scans are $4 each and there can be hundreds for an individual drawing number. VirtualAGC has the largest free online collection by far. I have a smaller set that is gradually being uploaded here. Archive is great for this purpose but painfully slow. I'll be launching a page in the near future for faster updates.

It's very accurate to say that a lot of the drawings are boring. Tons of specialized fasteners, washers, gaskets, and subassemblies.

So yes, they're out there and you can get a lot of them. The catch is that without devoting serious time to learning about archival research and what has been done to date you'll experience what most people asking NASA for drawings have seen: "after searching x, y, and z no records were located responsive to your request."

Gimbal frame looks fine but your force curves will be all over the place with that spring arrangement. Scissor spring returns will have a hard center and there's very little to calculate. If you want something uncommon you could consider placing a concave area underneath and using an omniwheel spring loaded into the stem.

Progress report:

It's coming along nicely. This ain't my first rodeo so I had a pretty good picture in my mind of how I wanted to approach this. People never seem to know where to get springs so I'm using Cherry MX Clear switches I had sitting around. Mini tactile switches could be used as well and I'll release the final design in STEP format to ease editing.

I'll take a look at it. Looks like a very simple implementation especially since it's a pulse rather than rate control with small deflections. Notice how he's bracing his left hand while using the THC? That's why NASA started using index rings. Especially at full scale they're close to a must-have feature.

HerculesFerrari

He's looking like a fine boi!

HerculesFerrari

Looks great! Nothing like hip joints for wild carving.

HerculesFerrari

His heels aren't touching the ground. Clearly a western spy.

HerculesFerrari

Give it some time with a humidifier and they should close up. The proper repair is to install cleats (little squares of wood) under the crack to prevent it from opening again. The problem is more cosmetic than structural and is probably around $200 to fix professionally.

HerculesFerrari

It would be an improvement, the world was simpler and I had more of my youth. The 90s were even better IMO.

My anus is bleeding!!!

HerculesFerrari

Biscuits only help with alignment and don’t contribute much to strength. Tape is doing that job here functioning as a fixture and temporary clamp. When your joints are cut to mate perfectly less clamping pressure is required to get extremely strong joints, which is why this can work very effectively.

HerculesFerrari

Is it new, or just new to you? I see this a lot from people who aren’t careful cleaning fretboards with steel wool. Nothing major to clean up, usually masking tape cleans it off nicely.

HerculesFerrari

Some collector out there is going to love it as an investment piece! Feels like a minor victory for the rest of us.

HerculesFerrari

Sounds like how my father in law “cleaned” his computer and started having problems with system stability. Turned out that he removed the CPU heat sink and scraped off a bunch of “gunk”. Needless to say his computer didn’t appreciate the lack of thermal compound and was shutting down from periodic overheats. Smh

HerculesFerrari

If it’s a small amount it will pass through like anything else in standard production. The heavy stuff is about as common as 7-8 grade tops and is sorted out.

HerculesFerrari

Not sure what the story is, but it’s not bear claw. Martin sets bear claw aside during grading for custom orders. Looks like a standard Sitka top and possibly some natural grain variation on those spots. Nice looking guitar.

HerculesFerrari

So, it’s more aptly described as crashing gear?

HerculesFerrari

It’s aladeen to feel aladeen about that.

HerculesFerrari

A US ton is surprisingly close to a metric ton at 2000 lbs (909 kg). One common turn of phrase here that has arisen is to refer to an excessively large quantity of some as “a metric ton of ____”, because it works out to a fat version of our own ton.

HerculesFerrari

Am I missing something or are you just asking about the natural warping of a guitar top under string tension? Lighter strings are generally the correct choice for steel string acoustics.

HerculesFerrari

This had me thinking, and I may need to check a few of my books, that at one point I read about Fender making a body out of either marble or granite. The takeaway was that it had sustain for days. I’m guessing the rest of the tone will be bright but that the right pickups and tone circuit should correct most of that.

HerculesFerrari

Think it would clear customs as granite scrap? Lol.
