Difficult if you're the average gamer. Lots of things to manage, threat levels, layout of the dungeon/raid. Knowing abilities, who to focus first, understanding your skills and when to use.

I love tanking. Whenever i play a caster or dps, I fall asleep since I'm just blasting whatever is marked skull

HollywoodNA

It isn't a stereotype. It's factually correct. The data on this idea has been done and would support that claim.

Women are interested, you're correct. But mostly and to the same degree as men?

Most of these guys who go to my locals and the top players are fiends! And I don't mean that badly, they grind the game and are extremely dedicated to their craft. They play hours and hours a day. It is more common to see a guy pursuing that in smash, and even in career than a woman.

Women are extremely capable of that too, I encourage women and men to chase your dreams, but the data would support that women do it far less often in Esports, well because there are just less women, so of course your sample size is already going to be much smaller.

I agree with you on your last point though, it's always nice to have spaces where people can be welcomed and included. However, this is not the case, and the real world is much more harsh. Take the job market, companies, large corporations. If you have no value, you're out. Doesn't matter who you are.

Women are generally less competitive though...

By using yourself as an example already tells me where you are, in regards to statistics and information.

When we say generally, that's exactly what we mean. I am more competitive than the majority of my female friends, but I have that one female friend who is way more competitive than me.

I have a male friend who hates confrontation and competing. Doesn't change the majority though. Because that's what we mean by majority.

HollywoodNA

Well of course there are going to be less women in smash/gaming as a whole. The majority of Esports is dominated by males. That's just a fact. So of course women are going to be less represented.

In regards to your comment about being underestimated, you have to remember the demographic of people who dominate smash. Who are they? They are MOSTLY young men who lack any real life experience, and therefore lack the means to communicate and/or convey their thoughts correctly. They have a very warped way of viewing reality (whether thats views about gender roles or whatever). They are people who only grind video games (which is fine) but by doing so, most of them lack experiences elsewhere. They spend all their skill points into smash, if you will. This is why you find so many people who play Esports have trouble socializing, because it isn't a skill they have practiced, or want to practice.

Now if you want to get into why there are less women, people tend to forget inherent and biological differences and tendencies.

Why are there more women in the social sciences, or nursing, or elementary school teachers? Why are there more men in the STEM fields, computer science, or construction and maintenance fields?

There are just less women who enjoy video games to the same degree that men do. The women who go out to locals and compete are few and far between. They are mostly guys. Yes you have women who do that, but the majority of these spaces are dominated by men.

I was reading some comments about "OH it's because of misogyny that women don't compete"

If that's the case then to what extent is it due to misogyny? How much can you attribute it to misogyny? It's not because of differences in demographic, natural proclivity, tendencies between the genders, even age?

We would all like women to be competitors. It would be cool to see more women at majors, at locals. But I ask many female friends if they are ever interested in competitive video games and they always say it never interested them, or they're terrible at video games. (Anecdoctal but worth noting).

But in death there is only more death. This will give rise to more pains. In this cursed world we live in, it is a cycle of hatred that will not cease.

HollywoodNA

I mean play whatever you want lol, some people like horde because of the aesthetic.... some play for the racials, some play for the storyline... some play for multitude of reasons lol

HollywoodNA

I main prot paladin, doesn't the spell power plate gear get changed on prepatch? They chnage the spell power into strength correct?

HollywoodNA

The Dark Wizzy is coming back to the smash scene, having support from his fanbase, then doesn't place as well as he'd hope, then complain about haters on Twitter. Then say he's going to keep doing him, and he doesn't care about the haters

HollywoodNA

Okay time be fair, the majority of all the top SC2 pros are men, it's not fair to immediately label him as a transphobe for one instance of misgendering lol.

HollywoodNA

THATS INSANE! Sc2 still looks amazing.

HollywoodNA

What I found cool, is that Alisa's color scheme of her outfit, always matched Reans colors, (whichever game they were in) lol

HollywoodNA

This would be the best option IMO.

Similar to Sasuke and similar to pre endeavor arc, turn him into "The ends justify the means" kind or character. That type of character pops up everywhere in media, Netflix shows, anime, even in the real world.

It doesn't matter where the power came from, what I do, as long as I'm the strongest.

HollywoodNA

someone say TFBlade??

HollywoodNA

That's kinda good I guess? Maybe too weak now, but nice to see that merc is not as strong.

HollywoodNA

To do that, you either need to have neekos, augments or be extremely lucky ESPECIALLY since the chances just went down 5% --> 4%.

It's common to play a 5 cost carry flex , as in, play whatever you hit. You can't roll for the intent of finding a level 2 kaisa, but you should say a level 2 "whatever you hit", but even then, it is very extremely unlikely, as you might not even get one copy.

You're better off playing a 3 cost carry or 4 cost carry at that point, then maybe looking for your 5 cost later.

HollywoodNA

LOL he's not hungry man...

HollywoodNA

THE 4 GATE YES!!! I remember watching so many tutorial videos on how to defend it lol, trick was to just make 4 spines at your nat + lings.

Toss was just so good at hiding their last gate way, and 3 gate FE was extremely common back then. I would send my ovie in, see 3 gates, drone, then die lol.

HollywoodNA

Lol I remember where I was, what I was doing. It was a Tuesday, I had just gotten back from my weekly Tuesday golfing, I went home so fast and played it the rest of the day. So surreal.

HollywoodNA

He speaking facts tho..

HollywoodNA

Thanks for saying one of the best, because he always says he's the best lol

HollywoodNA

I'm always too guilty of looking for 4 cost carry. Need to experiment with 3 costs more!

HollywoodNA

And that's the fun thing about smash! We are all constantly learning. Movement is great to work on, once that becomes autopilot, you can start to address the real RPS of the game, which makes it even more fun.

As the meta develops, slow and thoughtful play has been on the rise lately. Aggression and fast paceness is sick to watch, and players like Light and Void still do it, but their aggression is so well thought out, they make it look extremely easy.

Best of luck with the practice and the journey!

HollywoodNA

People said the rolling already so I'll include that too. But literally everytime you missed a smash attack, that was your response.

It just seemed like you were trying to just hit him. You ran with fullhop down airs, back airs, (C Falcon likes to jump alot so this can work) but most of the time it just felt like you were throwing out moves to try and hit him.

C falcon is fast yes, but take your time in neutral. C falcons weight and height is literally a playground for mario, make sure you slow down your neutral interactions.

How does he react to my fullhops? What does he like to do on ledge? What is he looking for when I'm low percents?

The strength of Mario obviously hinges on your fundamentals, I think if you have a better "macro" understanding of the game, Mario will come much easier.

You have 7 minutes to play the game, don't lose it in 2 or 3.

If you watch the match back, ask yourself, why did I try to go for X or Y move here? What's the benefit of F smashing at 40, is the risk reward worth it?

HollywoodNA

Yeah, legit coin flipping the game on zapdos, even if you're up 300-400 points, it doesn't matter.

Zapdos is actually the dumbest objective I've ever seen. The beginning 8 minutes of the game shouldn't just be invalidated because you may have lost one fight.

Don't even get me started on cannons either.

You ace them and wanna do zapdos? Well, good thing death timers are short, and they can literally teleport there once they respawn.

HollywoodNA

I'm herod alliance too. Horde are a joke on that server
