I know exactly what it means to compare things. You are comparing belonging to an HOA to belonging to a subreddit.
Howabout this: in your head, imagine two different things. Any two things. Are you thinking of two things to compare? Now imagine telling me all about your comparison and the ways in which those two things are alike and different. Maybe you thought of an apple and a banana and you tell me "their similarity is that theyre both things we can eat."
Now imagine me telling you "You cant compare apples and bananas. Those are two different things."
Do you see how ridiculous of a thing that would be for me to say? To totally ignore the fact that both of those are things we can eat... just because theyre "different things"?
That's exactly what youre doing. Youre being obtuse and disingenuous in ignoring an obvious similarity. No one can discuss things with people who converse like that.
I'm also about 80% sure i'm talking to a minor. So, go ask your english teacher what a comparison is. Goodbye.

Some of them i knew extremely well and it had nothing to do with their friends or fitting in or being accepted or looking cool. I do know one was prone to making dumb and impulsive decisions, so there's that.
they came to these conclusions because they weighed the pros and cons of smoking differently than you did.
Obviously. My point is that the pros never, ever, ever outweigh the cons. Ask your doctor or therapist or psychiatrist if you dont believe me. I doubt they'll say "sometimes the pros outweigh the cons."
It's poor decision making, plain and simple. The lack of reasoning behind those decisions is what baffles me.
Hot_Wheels_guy
Sorry, didnt realize i was talking to a minor.
Hot_Wheels_guy
I'm not sure that's a mitigating factor. If anything it makes it worse.
You think they should get more punishment because theyre disabled?
Hot_Wheels_guy
Empathy is a very rare commodity nowadays. I've even seen people use "empathetic" as an insult. Deadass.
(Why do i get the feeling someone is going to interpret this comment as me disagreeing with the punishment that driver received for his deadly behavior?)
Hot_Wheels_guy
Why is everyone stating this sentiment as if there are people here who disagree?
Hot_Wheels_guy
Did you not read the part of the comment that said he was banned from driving? What's the issue here? You didnt need to tell us you dont care about someone's disability. No one said they should still be allowed to drive.
Hot_Wheels_guy
I'd argue with you but I'd only be repeating myself, verbatim.
Hot_Wheels_guy
Omg, i'm sorry. Genuinely. I responded to the wrong comment. My apologies.
Hot_Wheels_guy
Based on my experience, you must not know many people with autism.

So many of the comments in this discussion are triggering repressed memories lol But I feel some camaraderie knowing I wasn't the only one.

Considering how horrifically socially inept I am, it's downright hilarious how reluctant I am to succumb to peer pressure. You'd think I'd want to try to fit in, but there's a very powerful part of my brain that says "that doesn't make any sense; i'm not going to do it."
I'm almost middle-aged, and I still cannot for the life of me understand how my friends and classmates in high school were told "don't smoke, it's unhealthy, it will kill you," and yet they immediately went on to form a smoking addiction. It is absolutely mind-boggling to me. Twenty years later I still cannot wrap my mind around it. It doesnt take a genius to avoid ever picking up a cig after being told how bad it is, yet i feel like a genius when i meet people my age who smoke.

And then if you insisted "2+2=4" was correct They would respond by lashing out at you and concocting absurd reasons that they're actually correct when they say 2 + 2 = 5, and that you're wrong for misunderstanding the math problem entirely.
And then i spend another night lying awake wondering why i always thought 2+2=4, and thinking about all the times I told other people "2+2=4" and feeling crushing embarrassment that they didn 't tell me I was wrong, and that two plus two actually equals five.
Then the next day I'd talk to my therapist , and they would tell me that two plus two really does equal four. And then i'd feel like the world around me has gone insane and that i simply dont fit in. Then the crushing depression sets in followed by the suicidal ideation...
Yeah, i think it's trauma.
Edit: before someone reports me for mentioning suicidal ideation i guess i have to explain to them i'm already getting help (as if it's any of their damn business).

In my experience it is impossible to discuss autism symptoms without non autistic people getting upset that theyre not included in the discussion.
Also, why didn't you simply reply reply to the person you're talking about? Why are you starting a discussion within a discussion to talk about that person's "hilarious take"? It's rude and immature to talk behind their back like that, even on Reddit.
If they're wrong, reply to their comment and tell them. None of this "can you believe how hilariously wrong that guy is?" nonsense. It's juvenile.

That's not what demand avoidance is. For me, demand avoidance is when the person wants to do something but becomes increasingly reluctant to perform the task the more they are demanded to do it. I had this problem growing up. I would sometimes set my own schedule for when I played video games, and when I watched TV, and when I did my homework based on how much homework i had that night. But even if just 1 minute before the hour i planned to start doing my homework my parents said to me, "Hey, you need to get off the TV and do your homework," I would immediately shut down and not want to do my homework for the rest of the night. It's totally irrational behavior. I would avoid the task simply because i was told to do it.
Same with chores. I'd plan something like "i'll put away my laundry in 2 minutes, as soon as i'm done doing inflating the tire on my bike," but if my mom told me to put away my laundry before i finished inflating the tire on my bike i''d become irrationally upset and avoid doing the task altogether for hours on end, until i could no longer avoid it under threat of punishment.
Demand avoidance is not simply "getting upset when told to do something you never wanted to do."

The term is "low support needs." "High functioning" is an outdated term that implies the person has little to no difficulty socializing and forming relationships and just has some fun, quirky traits (think Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory).

That's because it was edited with photoshop, Bob.

No gas or insurance bills for the car you never bought
No cable bill or netflix or disney+ or hulu etc. subscriptions
No phone bill
No electric bill
"8,000" dollars could have gone a long way back then.
Hot_Wheels_guy
Is this a kit you made?
Hot_Wheels_guy
Seriously. None of the "cardboard collectors" in this subreddit ever say a word about someone opening their own, and yet i see tons of these "sorry if this upsets the cardboard collector" posts. It makes me roll my eyes.
Hot_Wheels_guy
That's too bad. My Hobby Lobby still carries them in the sewing department.

But it just came out.

What
Explain to me why a student would start smoking after being told how deadly it is, after being told why they shouldnt succomb to peer pressure, after they were told smoking doesnt make you look cool or fit in, after being told it doesnt taste good, either.
Explain why that teenager would start smoking. My dumb brain is ready to feast upon your infinite wisdom.
Or you can just keep being immature and call people dumb whenever they challenge you to form a coherent argument.
