Not OP but this a hobby of mine as well. The biggest thing is loving food. The more you learn about its history the more you know what's going on in your kitchen. You can learn a lot about it as you read recipes. Lots of recipes for really old and traditional dishes come with a bit of back story of how it came to be that something was eaten or how the original recipe/process has changed out of need or convenience.

There's a big gap between the Soviet Union's form of Marxist-Leninism with it's Five Year Plans and government control of production and ownership and the democratic socialism of Sanders.
