How does it matter? Seriously? DVD sales matter for at-home viewing - KPDH doesn't need DVD sales for at home viewing because it is a streaming movie. so pointing out Frozen's DVD sales is a useless comparison because it's not even showing that Frozen's done something KPDH didn't. Plenty of people have been watching the movie at home, despite it not even having a DVD for sale, so using those as an argument for greater impact is useless and makes no sense. And given how much reddit likes to talk about Avatar's cultural impact, do I seriously need to point out why using the box office revenue is a flawed comparison? Especially when, again, we are talking about a streaming movie that was barely even in theaters? Like I already pointed out, it makes just as much sense as declaring KPDH has the greater impact because of the streaming records it set - these movies did not get people to watch them in the same ways.

This is like comparing a basketball player and a football player and declaring the basketball player has to be the better athlete because he's made more 3-pointers.

IHaveAScythe

I'm not disputing any of that? I'm just pointing out that going "KPDH hasn't come close to Frozen's box office and DVD sales" is a really dumb comparison to the point of meaninglessness.

IHaveAScythe

KPDH hasn't hit those milestones because it literally didn't get a normal theatrical release because it was a streaming movie? Like regardless of which movie you think had more impact, KPDH not reaching the Frozen milestones you mention doesn't have anything to do with impact because it's a completely different release strategy. Like, of course KPDH doesn't have something like Frozen's DVD 6 month sales - the KPDH dvd isn't even out until this November (has any other Netflix movie even gotten a DVD release at all?).

You might as well insist that it's a no-contest win for KPDH because of its #1 streaming run on Netflix. After all, Frozen doesn't have anything like that, and its been out for over a decade! These metrics aren't comparable between movies.

Yeah, I remember looking at D.Va and just being like "ok so realistically her very first fight her arms get obliterated and then she can't pilot the thing anymore. Genius design there."

IHaveAScythe

I mean, DVa has her arms out. Korea evidently doesn't care too much about their pilots lol

IHaveAScythe

If you like RPGs, play Rogue Trader! Eldar do some whacky stuff too!

IHaveAScythe

ask any Legion player how cool it is to lose units.

Why would we need to? Getting turned into a supplement hasn't stopped GW from axing our stuff.

A standalone codex that was designed like the ones divergent chapters had in 8th would be amazing - GW knows how to make a standalone codex that doesn't feel bad or incomplete, they just haven't wanted to do it for the last few editions because... I honestly don't know. Part of it's the whole "no more rules if no model" that they've been fairly inconsistent about, but that doesn't explain removing units with models, or things like EC not having predators.

IHaveAScythe

Your guys need something like a camp. Someone needs to set up tents, someone needs to do patrols around there, some guy needs to be driving trucks around to get food in. The command posts needs a guy writing shit down and a guy taking the phone next to the commander, etc. Shit you do on deployment. That's prolly what your scouts are doing the vast majority of the time

What? That's not what the scouts are doing, that's what the chapter serfs and menial servitors are for. By this logic most armies should be required to be bringing a ton of civilian units that are utterly useless on the battlefield.

IHaveAScythe

I was honestly really excited for that Cadian upgrade sprue because I thought it meant we would finally start getting upgrade kits for more armies. But we haven't even gotten one for another guard regiment since.

IHaveAScythe

People got excited for us to return to sets and see characters and places from worlds we'd visited before again.

This makes no sense, all of this is still happening. Do you think people weren't excited to go back to Ixalan or Tarkir or Llorwyn? That no one is paying attention to what Jace is up to? That there's no interest in seeing the Llorwyn 5 again?

They'd reveal cards, people would see things happening on the cards.

This too. Do you think story moments aren't being shown on cards anymore?

Like, all of this is still a thing if you're doing the bare minimum to keep up with Magic. Is your memory just getting wiped the second you hear the word "Spiderman"? Why not just tune out the UB cards instead? We literally just had a big reveal of all the in-universe sets for 2027, and the next set this year is Reality Fracture, which is a story focused set with divergent timeline versions of the Llorwyn 5 (well, no alternate timeline Jace, but that's because he's the one messing with reality to bring this about) and an alternate Strixhaven. Even if you're doing the bare minimum of looking at new cards, I genuinely don't know how you could miss all of this. You don't need the five seconds of googling to see all of that.

Why do you think there are so many "UB haters"? If it was "new thing bad", then why do they still exist this much later?

Because people just want to complain? Hell, like half the people who call themselves UB haters will regularly turn around and make excuses for LOTR or FF or talk about how they'd just love to see a set for Dark Souls or whatever other IP they like (that's actually another reason I'd disagree with using the original post's analogy for UB). Look at how literally any in-universe set anyone doesn't like immediately gets branded as "basically a UB of X" and it's pretty clear that UB is just a way to try and feel superior about not liking something.

I saw in another comment that you said you've basically stopped engaging with Magic half a decade ago but just want to stay in the loop with Magic's happenings, and I just struggle to see how you miss something as basic as "yes, there's still a story being told" if you actually cared about any of that in the first place.

Because full disclosure here - I don't, really. I didn't even know there was an overarching story between planes at first, and I never really delved into it much after I did. I love the gameplay and like a lot of the individual worldbuilding for planes, but the actual story has always been at most "I guess one of these days I should check it out again if I have the time, I've heard some of the new stuff is pretty cool."

IHaveAScythe

I swear, what is it with UB haters "caring" about Magic's lore so much that they won't even spend 5 seconds on google to know or read literally anything about it?

Besides, as far as Magic goes, I think this analogy applies far better to the spread of commander and the shrinking of 60-card 1v1.

IHaveAScythe

The head, backpack, and body are from the 5th edition Blood Claw/Grey Hunter/Wolf Guard box that GW retired in 10th edition.

IHaveAScythe

Off the top of my head, SM2 has at least 2 voice lines from NPCs on the ship threatening to have someone get servitorized, and obviously none of the marines give a shit. There's also the in-mission voice line where the Vanguard tells the sniper he's concerned about him looking at enemies through his scope because he thinks it'll corrupt his soul. Even that game portrays the Imperium as fucked and dumb.

IHaveAScythe

No tooth and Claw was Wolves vs. gsc, the Wolves vs. Orks box was the Prophecy of the Wolf box that tied into Psychic Awakening's Saga of the Beast.

IHaveAScythe

Having just read over some of the overhaul, it looks like the standard "parry to insta-kill then chain kill a bunch of enemies" is still there, but you need a "perfect" parry to insta-kill and they limited how many chain kills you can do at once. So it is nerfed, but unless the parry timing is now really unforgiving, you can get away with playing like old AC still? Though I guess that's a bit hard to figure without playing the game since things like environments and enemy density/attack patterns are also going to play a role.

IHaveAScythe

Does the game include a combat overhaul I haven't heard about? Because this is an old AC game we're talking about, just spamming parry is all it takes to basically make you unable to be killed in combat.

IHaveAScythe

I mean, who cares if other people can shell out real money for better gear for a single player game? Especially for AC of all things - I barely ever noticed a difference in the original game from the swords having different stats, and 99% of the combat is spam parry and watch the instakill animations anyway. Unless the game had a combat overhaul I missed that's going to make these mandatory for post-game content or something, this barely affects anything.

IHaveAScythe

The original comment is making a joke and sarcastically claiming that people aren't "voting" (AKA submitting results for the faction they want to win), they're actually honestly reporting the results of games played. You're claiming that there is no real player input at all and that GW's lying about listening to what players report to stick to some pre-planned reveal schedule.

You're not agreeing with the original comment at all, you're claiming something else entirely.

IHaveAScythe

Nids barely won in 10th and that was with a significant online push from the community to make Marines lose. Compared to how little most people seem to care about this, there's not really any reason to wonder if foul play is the reason the most popular faction is winning what's basically a popularity contest.

IHaveAScythe

Was it a stomp last time? I thought I remembered it being like a 55/45ish split for the Nids, and I remember the online community being a lot more invested in wanting people to vote for Nids and make the marines lose.

IHaveAScythe

I never bought the old outriders, but from what I know the old kit was pushfit with no options (apparently not even a helmet for the sergeant) and could be a pain to assemble.

So, like, it is the bare minimum, but it is an upgrade over what we already had here, kinda like the new intercessors having different helmets.

IHaveAScythe

Don't have the book on hand to confirm, but I'm pretty sure I remember Wolftime mentioning that the Wolves don't actually like being referred to as the Space Wolves too, and that's a 40k book.

IHaveAScythe

Ah, missed that they'd specifically said that. Thanks for the correction.

IHaveAScythe

"Ok they've made exceptions to this before multiple times, but they totally wouldn't do it again and anyone who says otherwise is dumb"

Yeah man ok, have a good one

IHaveAScythe

Calling Demons a reach, when some of their kits just got legends'd in 40k and are now AoS exclusive, just because the remaining units can now be taken with the monogod legions is pretty funny.
