This is why we don't use discord for this sort of thing, holy hell

I_Automate

I mean that sounds pretty reasonable.

For some context, I do heavy industrial process control and automation. Build and program the control systems that run chemical plants and refineries and whatnot. I'm a contractor and I've been in the field for about a decade now. Most work is also remote or on site at facilities, not so much in an office, generally.

It's a fairly niche field and generally you can tell if someone knows what they are talking about within a few minutes of conversation. Plus I have a pretty stacked resume, all things considered.

Every job I've interviewed for in the last 5 years I've gotten an offer for. Most of those have also been the company in question reaching out to me instead of me applying to an open position.

So I guess I'm a but of a special case.

Oh I'm aware. That's why I find it funny

I've never had more than 2 interviews in a tech related field.

Generally one online and then a second where I'd go in and meet the team in person to basically do a vibe check.

My brother in christ, feeding your pregnant wife a pile of chocolate accidentally is the absolute best outcome of the situation

I appreciate how she's loosing her shit while he looks like he's on the way to pick up the kids from school

Reeeeee

filthy gaijin go home

"Um, sorry, I meant no thank you"

Sulfer. And stewing petrochemicals in general, I guess

Doesn't a subdivision of subaru make parts of AH-64 Apaches for the Japanese military?

Its 7 am, I have work to do, I haven't slept, but I now know substantially more about photolithography used for semiconductor manufacturing.

Will I ever use this information, even in my tech related job? Almost certainly not. But I have it now....

Honestly, it's usually the author's political views sneaking in which I'm fine with, with things like this.

Like, "starship troopers" is basically republican star treck in a lot of ways, its a utopian society in all the ways that matter, and it makes a lot of sense when you realize Heinlein was a naval officer in WW-II

And everyone other than him seems totally fine with it.

Even the rastafarian. "Turns out I didn't need the ganja, I just needed an enemy to kill" type of energy.

Good books but that always made me chuckle

Oh, yea. The Amplitur as the big bad. We also have the quirk that our thoughts are so chaotic that it effectively drives them insane if they try to manipulate us.

I seem to remember the main character having a crisis when the first wave of recruits come back absolutely thrilled at getting to fight a war with unambiguous "good" and "bad" guys, while he's still trying to convince the aliens that we aren't a naturally violent species.

Don't forget the bomb pumped Xray lasers and nuclear shaped charges as weapons systems

I_Automate

Gotta keep the orcs off the fields somehow

I_Automate

This the Posleen war series? Where humanity ends up with antimatter powered slugthrowers and power armour that can stand up to close range nuclear detonations, and one of the main issues faced by everyone is quite literally the galactic banking system?

Good times

I_Automate

You asked and I answered.

Why ruin a perfectly fine language and then blame others when you refuse to speak it properly?

Kinda defeats the point of language in the first place, y'know. Being able to communicate clearly with others.

I_Automate

BMD bondage

I_Automate

No. But burning it is better than having the oil go everywhere, especially if its sour

I_Automate

Because its stupid?

If we get submarines I want an Ibis with droppable sonobuoys, torpedos/ depth charges, and a dipping sonar. Maybe even a magnetic anomaly detector but those are less and less effective even now.

THAT would be a hell of a time.

The actual therapeutic dose is something like half a milligram on top of that. Higher doses leave more in the body throughout the day, effectively causing a hangover, for lack of a better term.

3mg is already a lot, but people routinely take several times that every day. Its not doing them any favours, especially long term.

Joys of unregulated supplements, with pharma companies holding patents on formulations containing the "correct" dosage ranges
