And stopping abortions is never about the children, it's about punishing and controlling women.

The argument I'm reading out the the idiotsphere (my pro-Trump relatives' FB feeds) is that Trump is apparently aiding and abetting Russia to try to bring the war to a swifter close.
I call that treason. Even if you take the most charitable view and assume that he's performing some sort of Machiavellian maneuvering to possibly shorten the war and save lives (and again I'm not saying that's what he's actually doing by a long stretch), you don't fuck your allies over like that. It's bald faced treason.

There's a whole category of trash TV featuring parents and their kids. "Like Nastya" is one of them, I had to be super on top of what my daughter was watching for months to make sure she wasn't putting it on.

if someone with no knowledge is able to get the same results?
The scary thing to me is that, while I believe that eventually the experienced software engineer's solution wins in terms of reliability, security and maintainability, it might take too long for folks to realize that. Of course by then all of the people with knowledge and experience are pushed out and replaced by vibe coding tech bros.

It is absolutely not my intention to come off defending negligent parents, but it's a notoriously hard thing to legislate, and there's a very high probability that precisely worded laws would be disproportionately used against the poor and people of color.
What constitutes "home alone"? Do I have to keep both feet inside my property line? What if I have a 40 acre farm? What constitutes a negligent amount of time? Is it okay for me to leave them for 59 minutes and 59 seconds, but one second later I'm criminally culpable?
Trying to specifically legislate these things opens a pandora's box. The best compromise is vaguely worded laws, a reasonable person definition of neglect, and juries to make the call.

Good lord, even with bad wiring, the whole house burning to the ground in 10 minutes means there were a bunch of other issues already.
InVultusSolis
Or if there's a house fire, the kid can't evacuate themselves.
Here's something everyone needs to be acutely aware of. It's dark and awful, but it needs to be known by every parent: Small children will not try to run from a fire. Their first instinct tends to be to hide.

I wouldn't call it 'revenge' necessarily, I would call it "just retribution". But I get what you're saying. There need to be consequences so severe that anyone who suggests such lines of thought in the future will give pause. Otherwise, it's essentially "we have to win a political process, and lose nothing if we don't succeed".

You even start thinking you function better when high because of the mental dependency.
It's like being a fucking functional alcoholic. I've had people tell me "I work better while high". No you fucking don't, you're just addicted and have a high tolerance.

and he wouldn't let me go to bed until he won it all back
Man, how does that happen? "No" is a full sentence.
InVultusSolis
He would probably suck to hang out with, honestly
I've seen multiple comedy show skits throughout my life lampooning this, including the SNL one about his gambling seen upthread.

Imagine the odds on that bet though! What would the payout be if they actually did lose? Where's the nearest bookie?

Is the universal rule of "in a group shot she's the ugliest one" still applicable?
InVultusSolis
Those things are neat. Not arguing that, but I still argue that it won't have society-shaping downstream effects like classical computers and the internet.
InVultusSolis
What, like Bon Jovi?
InVultusSolis
Better - I think the Great Lakes area should be its own country along with New England, down to the Mason Dixon line, with MD and just a bit of the tip of WV along for the ride: The Nation of Laurentia

.... have you looked at a map or a globe since 1991?

There'd be too much going on to sustain life long-term, mostly strong radiation. Apparently it needs to sit relatively undisturbed for about 3-4 billion years before anything interesting happens.

Quantum computing can solve a specific class of math problems but it likely won't have huge downstream effects on society the way classic computers did.

Funny aside. My teen daughter learned a hard lesson about how Walmart operates the other day. She has a job but of course wants to save money on a fast food worker's wages, so she endeavored to purchase a box of Dum Dums at Walmart. She brought the box home, opened it, and to her dismay about 85% of the box was "mystery flavor". You know, the ones that they do between flavor changes on the machine that could be literally anything, like "coconut root beer" or "cotton candy butterscotch".
I explained to her that Walmart cuts corners like this with pretty much every product they sell - they negotiate cut rate prices with suppliers and in turn suppliers give them the crappiest versions of everything they make. It's the most visible with the Dum Dums, but imagine the corners they cut that you can't see.
InVultusSolis
They're in a special white trash section of Walmart.

I've been cheated on before, but I generally like to think of it as "what did I learn about myself from this experience". I certainly didn't let it define my future relationships, I don't want anyone to have that level of control over me.

You can't take one look at the defense lawyer in the link and tell he's of the ambulance chasing variety?
InVultusSolis
Obviously his job is to defend his client, but you don't have to go on a fucking news program and try to assassinate the character of the victim the way he did. He could have said either "no comment", or "we'll ensure [the suspect] receives a fair trial".
Duke Nukem 3D when you get to the alien levels.
