I took Technical Drawing as well as Woodshop in HS in the 80's. One of the most useful set of skills I ever acquired - Even if I did have to put up with the sexism of being the only woman in class.

I wouldn't cook or bake for them again, but I'm petty.

El Nino is a warming of the ocean currents off South America that drastically effects weather systems and therefore storms, tornadoes, floods in some countries, droughts in other areas, and food insecurity due to crop failure and fisheries disruption.

Well, I can say with confidence that this was created by a guy with no kids.

I remember when Nixon resigned. The news talked about gorilla (guerilla) warfare in Laos and I was so disappointed to learn it wasn't Planet of the Apes style. Also remember watching the Planet Of The Apes TV series.

Pit vipers have heat sensing organs in pits on their heads. They sense heat and use this for targeting prey or threats. In the USA, Copperheads, Water Moccassins, and all Rattlesnake species are pit vipers.

My 22yr old son looked and asked, "What is that supposed to be? Dog ears?" Such an innocent boy.....

I've been wondering about this myself. Suddenly there are all these specialty salts on the market. Kosher salt first came to my attention on the show Good Eats because Alton Brown used it exclusively.

Make sure you are getting iodized salt or consume enough dietary iodine (seafood, seaweed, etc.) The trend towards low salt diets and the rise in popularity of non-iodized salt (like Himalayan pink, kosher, etc.) can contribute to iodine deficiency and thyroid issues in iodine poor areas of the country.

Pastel colored butter-mints just seem to be ubiquitous at these things.

I bought an old Betty Crocker spiral bound cookbook from the thrift store and made the winner chocolate chip cookies from 1965 (or thereabouts). At the time we lived in the house he'd bought from his Father's mother's (grandmother's) estate years before we married.

The cookies were good, but nothing spectacular, Just a decent, puffy chocolate chip cookie different from the tollhouse recipe. So I made them again and took them to a get together with my husband's family. One of his sisters accused me of finding their grandma's old recipe in the house and wanted it immediately. Right Now!

She was shocked to find out that Grandma's Secret Recipe was vintage Betty Crocker!

G-Grandma's (on his mom's side) xmass fudge recipe was off the back of the marshmallow fluff jar! I did ask GG about her recipes when she was in her early 90's and she let me copy the cards from her recipe box. Several were labels cut and taped to index cards. Sister got all butthurt about that too. Those were FAMILY recipes. Well, I'm married to YOUR BROTHER and none of y'all bothered to copy anything down.

I made copies for everyone.

That sister is kinda nuts.
