I mean, that doesn’t make the claim wrong… it’s just staged instead of candid.

New solution. You’re gonna need a bunch of cans of air. Ooh. Or maybe a CO2 extinguisher. Dry ice?
Maybe leave it until winter and crack the door at night?
Anyway, time to freeze that shit! It’s easy to flip over an ice cube. Definitely an excellent use of resources. Prove you’re managerial material!

Just put some Fostah’s in the lemonade, mate, and yer sorted!

Narp. As soon as that hole is in the top, the “seal” with the ground won’t be enough to hold it in no mo’.
Gonna have to drill up from the basement.

This thread needs more “purple.”
Clearly not enough of you folks have the Super Metroid guidebook.

Plenty of naturally blonde folks have darker eyebrows.

We’re already accepting that we’re hearing English, even though they’re speaking Russian; why should they sound Russian – except for when speaking English?
Their accents can help define the characters better.

Similar to wearing black face.

It’s like Whedon didn’t even watch Cap’s movies, and just based him on how his grandpa treated him as a kid.

Never even clicked when reading it.

It would be a real cock-up if we kept saying the words Henry Cavill and cock close to each other.
Everyone, stop talking about how Henry Cavill likes to cock his fists before putting them to use.

Did you catch him doing the arm cocking in D/W?

I’m extraordinarily happy that Chan-Chan got to play Gambit, but this may have actually been the best possible version of him doing so. I really like C-Tates, but he never seemed right for the character, visually.
This movie did nothing to change that, despite him being one of my favorite parts. Mixing badass and funny was perfect, and Chatum delivered incredibly.
His choices on the accent added so much to the fun. But even if they adjusted his look and sound for a more serious take, he’ll never be the wiry, swarthy thief that we know from the comics and cartoon.
This movie, though, lets Cha-Cha-Slide live out his fantasy in a way we all get to enjoy and celebrate!
“It’s the year of the Gambit, mon ami.”

I still remember moving to California, asking for non-smoking, and having a spiritual orgasm when they told me there was no smoking section!
Then there was the time, much later, where I was in West Virginia. I stopped at a little diner, no smoking allowed anywhere… but no one bothered to tell the staff of patrons.

She’s a blue heeler, hence Bluey. And Aussie logic is still in play since blue heelers aren’t blue!

That can’t possibly be right…

“You can’t wake up if you don’t go to sleep.”
Not the biggest difference in phrasing, but I think it opens itself to more interpretations correctly said.
I think it’s saying that we have to go through the bad to get to the good.
As for the movie, I only watched it about a week or so ago and my partner and I loved it. We both lost it when the alien first showed up!

My experience is Hollywood, so everything I say goes off SAG rules. I didn’t mean to be so La-La-Land-centric, but most of the movies discussed have been Hollywood ones.
Where have you worked? I imagine whatever you translated into “Advanced Extra” was a localization of “Featured Extra” to begin with. Back when Background had a separate union, it did signify a higher pay rate. Of course that was decades ago. Now I joke that it just means “more work, same pay.”
I’d like to see it brought back, as well as the Under Five (lines of dialogue) category in all contracts. Create a pipeline from background to principal.
InfiniteNameOptions
You’re right that there are rules, unfortunately most of them aren’t as clear as we’d like.
The distinction is between background (extras) and principals.
There’s no such thing as an “advanced extra.” “Featured background” is still a term used, though it no longer means anything as far as pay or contract goes.
If you’re given a line, you are no longer background. If you say something unprompted, production could use that take without compensating you as a principal, but this almost never happens. Even the infamous Being John Malkovich can throwing scene has been debunked as urban legend – the moment was in the script.
The biggest legit exception for background to speak on camera is in groups, like a chant, or “wallah,” which is when everyone’s just kinda talking amongst themselves. Usually crowd noise is done in ADR, but sometimes they’ll roll sound on background wallah. It beats having to pantomime everything. I did an episode of Good Girls Revolt some years back, and can pick my voice out clear as day. Still just a regular BG check, though…
As for the like between a non-speaking principal and a background actor… that’s shit is muddy and gray. People in the industry who should know better still get confused by it. Generally, though, without dialogue, it’s hard to make a claim.
I’ve worked several productions as background where I’ve been given very specific actions, and emotions to communicate. It would have been a hell of a lot easier with dialogue, but productions are cheap! Sometimes you can get an extra bump, but often only if you ask the right people.

So… There’s this Netflix series…
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
Not a sequel, more an alternate take, but with the entire original cast voicing their characters.

Median in LA. This is downtown specifically. So, that median figure means a big less.
Of course, why they chose downtown… 🤷♂️
