Yeah, fair enough. I've been stuck painting a Chariot because it's in so many subassemblies so probably gonna move onto some Chosen, at least for now haha

Any particular logic here? Some of these feel kinda arbitrary

I was already into harder thrash metal stuff like Kreator and Slayer at age 14, my friend bought Leprosy and Altars Of Madness from a local record shop and they really sold me on the genre. While exploring a lot of the old school stuff I also got into Children Of Bodom and started to look more into melodic death metal as well, which lead me pretty naturally to Swedish death metal. After that I was able to keep exploring pretty easily.

Battle Of The Fang is really good. It's about the first time the Thousand Sons attack Fenris after drawing all but one Great Company off world and they lay siege to The Fang. Really great novel, highly recommend it.

The fight with Angron when the Knights land is one of the best action sequences I've ever read in a scifi book, fantastic novel.

You absolutely can, and I'd rather 40k's rules try to resolve that issue with other mechanics than just continuing with the current way of doing things. It's been the exact same problems since 8th edition, they keep failing to fix it, time for something new.
Infinity_Coda
Yeah sure, I have as mentioned played games where it works fine and is utilized a lot more thoughtfully. Invulnerable saves were also an artifact of the pre-8th rule system where AP ignored saves entirely and cover was a fixed save value. There's a lot of nuance but it does seem like the general consensus is that something about the current game just isn't working and hasn't been for awhile.
I'll also admit that part of why I'm pretty willing to throw the whole thing out is a measure of exhaustion after a decade of players bringing up the same issues about lethality and the numbers and it just getting worse and worse over time.
Infinity_Coda
I see your point but I think you've got it directly reversed in terms of the "root" of power creep. It's not the 4+ invulnerable save specifically, it's the AP system. I played all of 8th when the current AP system first got introduced, and the mass invuln saves came about as a reaction to how broadly effective even a single point of AP was(cover in 8th was really weak). The other games I've played that use this system of modifying(Conquest, ASOIAF, Pillage, AoS kind of) understand how impactful it can be while 40k uses it pretty flippantly. They clearly weren't prepared for it then, and now with the cover change in 11th the invulnerable save is one of the only things they can use to reduce its impact.
I think they just need a whole new system to represent armor penetration at this point, and armor saves needs to be a lot more valuable if invulnerable saves are gonna start coming down.

Same! The William King books were my first 40k novels and sold me on the character a lot

There's three more Ragnar books after the Omnibus in the same series and an unrelated one which I mentioned. And yeah, the Lukas book is a standalone novel.
Infinity_Coda
ADB's Ragnar Blackmane novel is fantastic. It's a good study of honor among Astartes and between chapters, really good stuff. Lukas The Trickster is much more lighthearted and leans towards some comedy as you might expect from that character but still a great read imo.

I like that Slaves To Darkness box. I got the Spearhead earlier in the year and this will hopefully help jumpstart my small collection nicely

Paint more, buy less, get rid of things you've had for awhile and don't thin you'll paint.

I've had good experiences at El Cerrito. I'm mostly a bicyclist and it's right on the Ohlone Greenway path, so super convenient, and if you make an appointment it should go pretty smooth with only a little waiting.

If you can find a copy of the Army Box, he'd probably like that. No epic heroes, but a bunch of very characterful model kits for him to dig into. Otherwise, I'd say Grey Hunters.
Infinity_Coda
I'd say so. It gets you two named characters and 20 Terminators total. You'll certainly have good variety of things to hobby from our range and probably enough infantry to start.

The marines for sure. I like Khorne stuff aesthetically, but I probably wouldn't play Blades Of Khorne in AoS if that makes sense. My original plan was to do a World Eaters themed army for CSM but wanted to wait until the updated the Berzerker kit. Since that tied to World Eaters becoming an army, that's obviously the direction I headed.

I saw someone put the heads on Krieg bodies and it worked well enough.
I hope you enjoy it!
