Correct me if I am wrong but Mark is a direct product of his plan: sending Nolan to find a suitable host planet for revitalising their species. I think in that moment he realised if he kills Mark he would destroy his own plan that was actually successful.
I haven't read the comics but when I saw him in the show on Earth, I got ideas what will happen. I wasn't far off, I learned trough Reddit what is the outcome. That is why I thing Thragg would bot be interesting.

Sa ovim tetovažama, liči mi na NPC-a iz igre Gothic 1 Remake - čuči čitav dan u močvari duva džointe i čeka da se Sleeper probudi

I can not connect Lee Pace with TV Show Thragg's face at all. I can not connect that such person can have such a beautiful smooth voice. Lee is an amazing actor and adore him in Hobbit and Foundation - those are perfect cast for him. For me, Thragg is a miscast. Maybe it would be different if Thragg looked more like Thragg in the comics. In this example, maybe it would work:
But current TV show beefy Thragg... no, just feels off. The one I linked above looks cold, calculated, cruel - I see why someone would chose Lee and he himself claimed he wanted to portray him like that. But beefy Thragg in TV show looks like someone who likes squishy hugs yet forced to play a role of a bad guy.

I haven't read the comics, love the TV show and I expect that they will "humanize" like Nolan but each in a different way.

What is shown in the show implies that their culture is extremely and deliberately streamlined. They value only strength, duty and order. Mantra is "All is ours" and very important one "He (Argall) gave us stars". This heavily implies that Argall presented himself to all living Viltrumites as the founder of their current society. Nolan explicitly mentioning to the young Viltrumites that they don't erect monuments except for Argall.
However, Viltrumites are very emotional beings. While their culture see emotions as weakness, Nolan is the first one who truly embrace them.
In the comics it is obvious that other remaining Viltrumites embrace them as well when introduced to human partners on Earth. While Thragg is not finding a human partner, even he is having feelings for his Thraxan children.
This brings us to various speculations. Were they emotional society before Argall reformed them into a husk of a society that live just to conquer the galaxy? Because it's obvious, after events on Earth, that their superior generics actually preserved their emotional side.
